PERSONAL & FAMILIAL BACKGROUND:

Rev. Armstrong is a Native of Los Angeles, California where he was born and raised. He is married to the former Melanie L. Pinkney, Esq., who is a Deputy Attorney General assigned to the NJ Dpt. of Law and Public Safety. They are the proud parents of Amaris Kayla (4.5 years) and Daniel LaRue (3years). EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Rev. Armstrong serves as the pastor the historic Shiloh Baptist Church of Trenton, NJ. In a 95 year span (1904-1999) the church only had two pastors. He is now the 3rd in 105+ years!!! Under his leadership, Shiloh has nearly tripled its budget to $1.5M and doubled its membership to 2,000+. From March, 2006-April, 2009, the Rev. Armstrong served as the Director of the Division of Prevention and Community Partnerships for the NJ Department of Children and Families. He managed a $100M+ budget and oversaw the Offices of: (1) Early Childhood Services, (2) School-Based Services, (3) Family Support Services, (4) County Welfare Services and (5) Domestic Violence Services. He is currently a member of the National Advisory Board for the federal Early Childhood Quality Improvement Center. GENERAL INTERESTS, HOBBIES & COMMUNITY SERVICE:

Rev. Armstrong is an acclaimed teacher, preacher, motivational speaker, author, workshop facilitator, grassroots community organizer, and child welfare / family strengthening advocate. He is considered a national leader on issues pertaining to child welfare and family strengthening, particularly foster and kinship care. His passion for this work emanates out of his 13-year experience as a foster child in Los Angeles and has written a book entitled, “Snapshots of a Foster Child” which chronicles his experience in foster care. His most recent book is “The Scent of Water: 7 Sermons on Hope, Resilience and Inspiration.” (8/2009) He is a national and international children’s rights advocate having worked for displaced children in South Africa, Mexico, Europe and Central America. For the same, he has made several tv/radio appearances. He is a former member of the NJ Governor’s Cabinet for Children (2002-2005) and recently co-chaired the Child Welfare Transition Team for NJ Governor Jon Corzine (12/05-01/06). He is the founder and board president of the National Association of Foster Children, Inc., a national network child-welfare/ family strengthening organizations and the Founder/CEO of the National Institute on Clergy Training. AWARDS & HONORS:

Rev. Armstrong has been officially recognized and honored by numerous governmental, religious and civic organizations. In the Summer of 2001, he was chosen by the Salt Lake OLYMPIC Organizing Committee to be an Olympic Torchbearer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games! In 12/2001, he carried the Olympic Torch in Mercer Cnty. on behalf of America’s 600,000+ foster children! He is a Member of Chi Sigma Iota (Alpha Epsilon Chptr.) Intl. Honor Society for professional counselors, counselor educators.
