THE RIBBLE WARRIORS WARGAMES CLUB

PRESENTS; ON 2nd /3rd August 2014

THE RIBBLE RUMBLE 2014

Version  1.0  –  Ribble  Rumble  2014

Introduction

Hello and welcome to the Rumble 2014, we are back and in our 4th year we also coincide with the clubs 25th anniversary !! We have plans for gifts for everyone who attends the event to celebrate, not sure exactly what yet but keep your eyes on the forums.

For the 4th annual Ribble Rumble we are continuing our multi system approach. this yea the following systems will be running at the Ribble Rumble:

• Warhammer 40K – all comers

• Warhammer 40K – Highlander (separate draw from all comers)

• Flames of War

• Blood Bowl

• Bolt Action

• Warhammer Fantasy Battle

As you can see Warmachine make way for Bolt Action, Warhammer Fantasy returns after a break last year. Warhammer 40K also splits into an all comers event and a dedicated Highlander event.

The Rumbles history goes back over 20 years and during its last 3 years of revival we have strived to provide an event that is different from all the others. Providing a great location, great gaming atmosphere that is relaxed but still competitive and above all having a load of beers on Saturday evening at the local Adelphi Pub !

This year will be no different, and we have loads of plans to keep things moving forward.

We have press ganged everyone at the club to help you achieve the above aims and the main culprits in this are;

Ribble Rumble 2012 Committee will be:

• Geoff Hamilton

• Rob Sims

• Chris Green

• Paul Burke

• Iain Miller

Any questions please email them to: [email protected]

The specific systems organizers are as follows:

• 40K – Chris Green / Geoff Hamilton

• Bolt Action – Rich

• Warhammer Fantasy – ????

Version  1.0  –  Ribble  Rumble  2014

• Blood Bowl – JT-Y

• FOW – Sam Street

We would also like to extend a special thanks to our own Beer Troll Bob and Jan for running data entry on the day.

Location and Accommodation Some of you will have been up to visit us previously and know your way around, some will be Rumble virgins, so we have put together a couple of maps to show where we will be and where some of the nearby hotels, pubs and food are located.

However, once we have you in our clutches I am sure there will be plenty of guidance on where the best attractions are, for all sorts of after tourney activities (wink, wink) say no more.

The Venue: The Atrium

Students Union Building Fylde Road

Preston Lancs

The Event building is located right behind the concert venue 53 Degrees, using this post code will get you closest PR1 7BQ

Hotels: • Premier Inn Preston Central, Fox Street, Preston

• Holiday Inn Preston, Ringway, Preston

• Legacy Preston International Hotel, Marsh Lane, Preston

• Travelodge Preston Central, New Hall Lane, Preston

• Ibis Preston North, Garstang Road, Fulwood, Preston

• Whitburn House, Garstang Road, Preston

• Claremont Hotel, Blackpool Road, Ashton, Preston

• The Park Hotel, Tulketh Road, Ashton, Preston

Some of these are the usual lodge type hotels, some are more B&B type and some include breakfast in your stay. Just Google “cheap hotels preston” for full details and prices, although some are offering pretty good deals especially for sharers.

Version  1.0  –  Ribble  Rumble  2014

MAPS: The first shows the closer hotels in relation to the venue at “The Atrium” and shows as the crow flies distances to the games. It also shows the MAIN off tourney socialising place, The Adelphi Pub, where the landlady Sharon and all the staff always make us more than welcome and show us a good night of beers and food and where Sunday breakfast can be provided if there is sufficient demand. Very good it is too, well recommended putting life back into broken wargammers LOL.

The second map is closer up and shows the main car park and the walking route into the venue, about 1 minute walk. It also shows the location of some local food outlets and more pubs.

Whilst we are not including food in the price this year there will be food available on site and several outlets very close by where you can satisfy your greed.

Tickets are sold as is and no refunds will be offered by the event committee, we will attempt to sell on tickets if required.

Version  1.0  –  Ribble  Rumble  2014

Food & Drink: This year we have not included food in the ticket price to ensure the event is as affordable as possible. The venue will be selling food on site, there is a local shop and subway a couple of mins walk away. Also the Adelphi Pub down the road usually serves food at lunch time.

Free Tea & Coffee will be available for all attendees, provided by the venue. The onsite bar will be open both days providing both soft drink and intoxicating liquid as required.

Saturday night the Adelphi pub will be providing us all with food as a sponsor to the event, we are as ever grateful.

Army Painting and Standards: All armies must be painted to an acceptable standard for this event, the following rules will be used to ensure that we all get to play against painted models. Everyone attending the event should know what ‘acceptable’ is, if you are not sure then its not acceptable! If you try to push the boundaries we will apply list penalties. Armies must be set up for judging during the lunch break on the SATURDAY with the players name clearly displayed with their army. During Saturday lunch time your army will be assessed for painting. Every model in your army will be assessed for painting; if even only one model fails to meet a criteria you will score 0 for that section:

• Painted (10pts) –Your army has been painted with a minimum of 3 Colours. Single flat base colours will not count as 1 of the 3. Dabbing a small bit of silver and a helmer colour will not count as 3 colours. Please ensure ALL you models are fully painted.

• Based (5pts) – Bases (clear flying bases excluded) have some form of texture & colour. The base must look finished and complete.

• Detail (5pts) – Your Army has had some form of extra detail applied to it. Techniques such as Inking, Dry brushing and Highlighting would be examples of this category. As with Painted, a single dry brushed silver gun will not count as detailed.

• Cohesive Scheme (5pts) – the models follow a theme and look like an army / force or

team We are going to be very stringent to the painting scores this year and even more fussy than in the past both what meets the above criteria. No not fall foul and get your models painted ASAP Painting scores will be displayed during Sunday so everyone can see how they scored and we will gladly review your score if you think it is unfair. Be warned though our second judgement will be final. We believe that every should be able to achieve 25/25 point for this category, if you are in any doubt please send picture to [email protected] before the event so we can all avoid disappointment. Models that do not meet the basic ‘Painted’ section will be removed from your army at lunch Saturday. If you paint them before Sunday they ‘may’ be allowed again.

Version  1.0  –  Ribble  Rumble  2014

Army List Submission: Players are required to submit army lists to the committee by email prior to the event (unless you have exception in your system pack). Failure to do so will result in a reduction in overall tournament points as detailed below.

Army lists must be submitted to: [email protected] Players must submit their army list by midnight on Sunday 20th July 2014.

All lists must be submitted in Word, TXT or PDF format and must contain full details of equipment; all points values, unit sizes, and weapon or armour options. Please do not use abbreviations, eg. TH=Thunder Hammer or Terminator Honours???

Please no lists in Army Builder Format.

A list received late or incorrect will incur a penalty: If the list contains any errors it will be returned and must be corrected and re-submitted before the deadline to avoid penalties.

• 10 TP's for not being received on time: If your list is late this will be deducted from your tournament score.

Please include your name at the top of the document it makes our lives so much easier.

• 10 TP for not including your name Players may wish to alter their army list after submission but may only do so once without incurring the penalty for late list. Lists may not be altered after the submission deadline has passed without incurring a penalty of 10 TP’s. We will announce the most popular codex 1 week before the event and allow anyone to chage to a different codex without penalty. Any player found to be using a list on the day that differs from that submitted will be penalised and have their TP’s reduced to Zero for each game where the incorrect list was used.

Prizes: There are quite a lot of prizes on offer at the Ribble Rumble, as we are trying to reward people’s efforts in both gaming and modelling/painting. This year the prizes will break down as follows:

• System Prizes:

Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each system.

• Best Army:

There will be a trophy for Best Army in each system, as voted for by the players. This is a best army vote not a best painted vote, please take into account not just the painting but also the theme & conversions etc. The committee will short list entries for Best Army during Saturday and allow players to judge during Sunday Lunch

• Most Sporting Player:

There will be a trophy for Most Sporting player in each system again based on in game attitude and player choice.

• Open Category:

Enter anything you like from a single model to a full diorama (as long as it was painted / created by yourself), only one entry per player. This category will be judged on Painting / Modelling and overall look of the entry. A Trophy will be awarded for 1st, place.

Version  1.0  –  Ribble  Rumble  2014

Sportsmanship and Conduct: We insist on and reward a high standard of both sportsmanship and general conduct of all our players. Sportsmanship: The award for most sporting player in each system will be decided on a combination of nominations and a favourite opponent vote. After each game you may, if you feel it appropriate, nominate your opponent as an exceptional sport, this will award them one sportsmanship point. Please note that it is very important to approach data entry directly after each round in which you wish to nominate an opponent for a sportsmanship score. Favourite Opponent Vote: Every player will be handed a slip during game 5 on which they should record the name of their favourite opponent of the tournament; the one they found to be the most sporting. This vote should be submitted to data entry along with the results from game 5. The most sporting player will be the player with the highest combination of sportsmanship scores and favourite opponent votes.

We expect and require all players to behave in an appropriate and respectful manner at the tournament, particularly during gaming sessions. We will not accept inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour and will therefore be operating a Yellow/Red card system. If you are issued a yellow card during a game you will receive an automatic 10 TP deduction from your score applied at the end of the event. If we have to intervene again you will be issued a Red Card and asked to leave the event. Red cards may be issued for serious issues.

Rules Disputes: Should a disagreement or question arise regarding rules during a game, players should seek to resolve the discussion by taking the following steps; Check the most up to date FAQ available, Check the Army-book / Codex, Check the Rule-book. If you can’t agree on a solution call one of your nominated Player Referees (for your system only). The referee’s decision will be final and not open to dispute. NO players or non-players are to interfere with or disrupt any games, by giving advice either verbally or physically, by correcting mistakes or reminding of forgotten actions or invading the players game-space etc. Judges Decisions: Should a Player be found to be behaving unacceptably (for example, arguing with the ref) they will become eligible to receive a Yellow card for their first offence and a Red card for continuing transgressions.

Version  1.0  –  Ribble  Rumble  2014

What do you need to bring: Most important is the right attitude, we want everyone to have fun and meet new friends. You will also need some or all of the following:

• Your  fully  painted  and  based  Army  /  Force  /  Team    • At  least  one  typed  copy  of  your  submitted  Army  list  for  your  opponent    • A  copy  of  this  Rules  pack    • Pen,  paper,  Dice,  Tape  Measure  and  Templates    • Your  system  Rules  book    • Your  system  Codex  /  Army  Book  and  any  FAQ’s  that  relate  to  it

A note on dice: There is nothing worse than disputes over dice in a games, its spoils everyone’s fun. All players will follow the guidance below during all games.

• All  “cocked”  dice  must  be  re-‐rolled.  Agree  with  your  opponent  before  play  what  definition  of  “cocked”  you  will  use.

• Any  special  dice  rolls  must  be  declared  before  they  are  made  and  witnessed  by  either  your  opponent  or  an  acceptable  independent  e.g.  an  umpire.

• All  dice  must  be  rolled,  not  dropped  or  spun.    • Players  should  roll  dice  where  both  players  can  see  the  results  and  it  is  easy  to

distinguish  which  dice  have  actually  been  rolled  from  any  others  that  may  be  present  on  the  table.

• Roll  Scatter  Dice  near  to  the  point  you  are  scattering  from  –  it  makes  it  so  much  easier  to  work  out  which  direction  to  scatter  in!
