Officers Forum—President
Welcome to the new membership/fiscal year for DAPL 6.1.2020-5.31.2021! To start, thank you to the 2019/2020 executive board, committee chairs, committee members and DAPL members for a great DAPL year. Special recognition is due to Ed Higuera for his leadership as president, as well as Thomas Porter and Bresee Carlson (education committee chairs), for navigating the challenges faced by state and local stay-at-home orders and still delivering high-quality education programs to the DAPL mem-bership. You may have noticed that the DAPL had to cancel the in-person luncheons from March through May. In re-sponse to the stay-at-home orders, the DAPL and education committee introduced educational webinars on a new platform, Demio. Kudos to all involved for pivoting quickly to an online offering as a resource to DAPL membership. Additionally, due to the industry volatility we are experiencing, the webinar series offered in May was FREE! The speakers and topics were great and the videos can still be accessed here: Wyoming Regulatory Update by Pete Obermueller https://my.demio.com/recording/bIq0uBx9 Administrative Law Overview and Colorado Regulatory Update by Jamie Jost https://my.demio.com/recording/CFon1fWw Local Control in Colorado by Christopher J. McGowne https://my.demio.com/recording/AdU46gGU
The DAPL is in a strong position and able to adjust offerings during challenging times, in large part because of the efforts of the previous executive boards led by former presidents Sam Evasick, Chad Repko and Ed Hi-guera. Their focus on the sustainability and financial wellbeing of the association has allowed us flexibility in our resources to continue providing value to the membership. Evidence of those efforts over the last three years can be found in the bar chart “DAPL All Accounts Balance”, page 9, May newsletter Officer’s Forum https://dapldenver.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/May-2020-RML.pdf
The new 2020/2021 executive board (below) is excited to carry this focus forward and give back to the mem-bership whenever possible.
2020/2021 Executive Board Immediate Past President – Ed Higuera
President – Tyler Aylor First Vice President – Thomas Porter
Vice President – Jason Rayburn Secretary – David Connolly
Treasurer – Armando Trevino Director – Shelly Albrecht
Director – Matt Smith AAPL Director – Caroline Hansen
With that said, the first offering to the membership is the Summer Landman Support Series. These videos are also FREE and can be accessed here: MBA 101 by David Ramsden-Wood (presented on 7/1) https://my.demio.com/recording/k0i6raC3

We are very excited to also start holding in-person events in the hopefully not too distant future (fingers crossed). Membership safety is a high priority; therefore, we will begin with our annual outdoor events that allow for easier social distancing and fresh air. At the time of this newsletter, we are able to move forward with the venues and event planning for both the 36th Annual Clay Shoot (8/28) and Golf Tournament. Reg-istration and event details coming very soon. In closing, I am honored to serve the organization this year and looking forward to a great year with the new online offerings as well as the eventual safe in-person events. Thank you, Tyler Aylor DAPL President 2020/2021 [email protected]

DAPL May Board Meeting Minutes
May 13th, 2020 In attendance: Tabatha Reed, Gil Guethlein, Kelly Muldoon, David Connolly, James Culbertson, Janet Rost, Bresee Carlson, Shelly Albrecht, Caroline Hansen, Armando Trevino, Tyler Aylor, Matt Smith, Bresee Carl-son, Sarai Martinez, Michelle Meyer, Chad Repko, Eric Stowe, Gil Guethlein, Thomas Porter Ed called the meeting to order at 11:33 Approval of Minutes: No changes to the Apr il meeting minutes. Gil moved to approve the minutes, Shelly seconded, April meeting minutes approved. Membership: No repor t given as there were no new membership applications. Presidents Report: Repor ted by Ed Higuera. Ed’s last meeting serving as DAPL President. Tyler Aylor will assume the role as DAPL President starting June 1, 2020. Outside of the challenges faced due to COVID-19, the DAPL has had a great fiscal year. Metrics from events, funds raised, and member engagement have been great. Thank you to all the board members for making the organization better. Thank you to committee chairs for your work. Special recognition to Thomas, Bresee, and the Education Committee for their work in launching the first DAPL virtual education platform. Special recognition to Crosby who has taken the lead in marketing events via social media. Treasurers Report: Repor ted by Janet Rost. The DAPL’s financials remain in a good position due to cor-porate sponsorship. We are concerned about membership renewals due to the current industry state of the in-dustry. Over the last three years we have added a lot of financial cushion putting us in a good position going
forward. The board should consider ways to mitigate financial risk in the future.
Education Committee: Repor ted by Thomas Por ter and Bresee Car lson. The education committee is very proud to have launched an online educational platform for the DAPL in May. The board provided feed-back which will be applied for future events.
The Rocky Mountain Landman, Summer 2020 19
DAPL May Board Meeting Minutes cont’d.
The committee is considering two venues for the Fall Land Institute contract negotiations Hilton vs. Ritz Carl-ton in Denver. Both contracts are close from a monetary standpoint. The Ritz is offering a larger space which would allow for a more socially distant event. The board provided feedback and seems to be supportive of the Ritz with allowing the opportunity for a virtual option. Scholarship Committee: Repor ted by Michelle Meyer and Sarai Mar tinez. Committee is recommend-ing distributing 6 (six) $1,000 scholarships to Energy Management students from The University of Tulsa, University of Oklahoma, and Western Colorado University. The board recommended that the committee work to recognize these students in an upcoming newsletter and potentially at an upcoming event. Thomas motioned to approve DAPL granting $6,000 in scholarships, motion was seconded by Chad. Scholarship disbursements are approved. Golf Committee: Repor ted by Armando Trevino, Due to COVID-19 both Vail Resorts and Fox Hollow have imposed significant pre-cautions ( 1 person per cart, no lunch, no awards, etc.) Committee is recom-mending two options choices: hold the event at Fox Hollow in July or move the event to September at Key-stone or Fox Hollow. Based on feedback from the board we agree to move the event to September and wait out the uncertainty due to COVID-19 and work to reserve spaces at Keystone and Fox Hollow for optionality. Networking Committee: Repor ted by David Connolly, the ear liest possibility of holding a HH would be late August. The committee will remain very flexible with COVID-19 policies and social distancing. Possi-bility of holding an event in conjunction with the golf tournament instead. The committee is also looking at adjusting its’ sponsorship opportunities. Recommending planning two more HH’s for 2020 one in September with the Golf Tournament and one in the winter months. The DAPL board will discuss at the next meeting ways to engage and serve the members over the summer months due to events being postponed. Miscellaneous Caroline briefly discussed ideas for Landman support. Chad thanked the board for all their work as this is his last board meeting as Past President. Kelly discussed the COGCC rulemaking and a desire to increase engagement in the public comment period for the rulemaking. Kelly will reach out to the regulatory and advocacy Tyler thanked the board and the committee chairs for a job well done. Meeting adjourned at 12:47PM

DAPL June Board Meeting Minutes
June 10, 2020 In attendance: Tabatha Reed, Tyler Aylor, Elizabeth Marchiano, Crosby Garrison, Gil Guethlein, Kelly Mul-doon, David Connolly, Jason Rayburn, Janet Rost, Shelly Albrecht, Caroline Hansen, Armando Trevino, Matt Smith, Thomas Porter, Telbe Storbeck, Jeff Silver, Todd Ritchie, Lexy Mastroianni. Pres. Tyler Aylor called the meeting to order at 11:33 AM MT Approval of Minutes: No changes to the May Board Meeting minutes. Thomas motioned to approve; Shelly seconded. APPROVED. Brief intros/bios by the Board Membership: Repor ted by Jeff Silver . 9 new applicants; all “Active” members; 6 are AAPL members; all from operators, perhaps indicating that field landmen are getting hit hard by market conditions; 5 are previous DAPL members. Tyler asked about dues relief/forgiveness – no one has asked about this yet; will let the
Board know if this happens. Thomas motioned to approve; Matt seconded. APPROVED.
Per Tabatha, to date: 164 Renewals, including 14 3-yr renewals; 1307 Total Members, including 459 “Current” Members, i.e. already renewed for this year, including honorary and retired members, and 848 have not renewed yet Tyler – could be huge dip in membership this year; confirmed by Tabatha Tabatha – normally about 200 higher by this time of year but renewals should continue to trickle in President’s Report: Repor ted by Tyler Aylor . Honored to be president. Special thanks to Ed and Chad for leaving the DAPL in a solid financial position. Hopefully next year is better compared to current market conditions. Most presidents have a specific platform but this fiscal year we will be focused on (1) managing the pandemic as it impacts our members and related adjustments by the Board, (2) industry down-turn and financial impact to the DAPL, and (3) Fall ballot initiatives and getting info out to the community. Excited about the work by Thomas and Bresee with the Education Committee, especially the recent Webinars – looking forward to FLI and attending events in the fall. Ready to get back to normal. Corporate Sponsorship – crucial to the DAPL, especially with the probable dip in membership this year, which covers our G&A expenses. G&A has been lowered thanks to past changes, e.g. more efficient DAPL headquarters; $90K from Corporate Sponsors (“CSs”) in addition to membership dues in past years.
- Given that many Spring events were canceled due to COVID-19, how do we add value for our CSs? What should Corporate Sponsorship include this year?
The Rocky Mountain Landman, Summer 2020 21
DAPL June Board Meeting Minutes cont’d.
- Ed – good idea for this year to change benefits in order to offset lost value due to canceled events, spe-
cifically: give 2 membership credits to Double Platinum sponsors and 1 to Platinum sponsors; Thomas and Matt supported this; no objections.
- Tyler – suggested exclusive Fall and Spring happy hours for CSs. Thanked Gil for organizing such an event last Fall. Maybe the Spring HH could serve as a “Thank You” and the Fall HH as a springboard to get renewals.
- Tyler – Kudos to past Treasurers Janet and Sarai for getting sponsors. Rather than tasked to Treasurer, should getting CSs fall under the Budget & Finance Committee (“B&F Comm.”) because they oversee long-term finances? Gil and Janet have volunteered to be involved in the B&F Comm.; Tyler con-cerned about filling this role in the future. Gil wants Treasurer to continue spearheading this with vol-untary support from B&F Comm. Janet said recruiting CSs is a group effort and probably should re-main that way, i.e. if you know the contact, you solicit Corporate Sponsorship
- Fundraising COMBINED with Thanking. Who’s in charge of follow-up/thanking our CSs? All hands on deck from the Board for CSs.
- Tyler – in our communication to CSs to address membership credits, we should also (1) clarify protocol for future canceled events and (2) request feedback on how we can best serve them, i.e. what do they want from DAPL moving forward? Tabatha to draft email. Tyler and Ed to review prior to sending. They are currently being thanked at Ed. Comm. Webinars.
2020: 6 Double Platinum; 7 Platinum 2019: 3 Double Platinum; 10 Platinum 2018: 2 Double Platinum; 5 Platinum - The Board contacts these CSs at the beginning of each year. Janet has a shared Google sheet of all
sponsors, past and present.
Award Committee – Landman of the Year typically chairs this committee the following year. Now there is one co-chair that remains consistent. Treasurers Report: Repor ted by Armando Trevino. The DAPL’s financials remain in a good position due to Corporate Sponsorship. We are concerned about membership renewals due to the current state of the indus-try. Over the last three years, we have added a lot of financial cushion which puts us in a good position going
forward. The board should consider ways to mitigate financial risk in the future.

DAPL June Board Meeting Minutes cont’d.
Education Committee: Repor ted by Thomas Por ter .
1. Update on Landman Support Summer Series: - Special thanks to Bresee, Caroline, and Gil - Plan is to have 3 virtual events over the summer:
* Late June/Early July – MBA 101 – DRW * 7/22 – Effective Leadership Through Self Awareness – Dick Massimilian * 8/27 – Building a Resilient Mindset – Anna Conrad
- DALTA has expressed interest in participating - Should we ask other professional organizations to participate? - Dues could contribute to a “Landman Relief Fund”?
2. Fall Land Institute (“FLI”): - At May Board Meeting, discussed moving forward with the Ritz-Carlton - During negotiations with the Ritz, we ran into a lack of follow through on force majeure clause;
not willing to work with us, which forced us back to the Hilton - Price is essentially the same; Hilton much more accommodating with force majeure, giving us
flexibility to go virtual if necessary - Unlikely to go with Ritz at this point - Tyler et al approve going with the Hilton - Virtual approval of FLI accommodations coming soon
3. Leadership Update: Crosby Garrison stepping into role of Co-Chair of the Education Committee in place of Thomas, who will still be involved

DAPL June Board Meeting Minutes cont’d.
Clay Shoot Committee: Repor ted by Todd Ritchie. Trap Shoot at Colorado Clays, August 28, 2020. Colorado Clays – no concerns about COVID-19 guidance; taking precautions, of course; they have not set up the tent that they normally have out there – not sure if they are going to this year; post-shoot lunch, maybe boxed lunch to account for social distancing? Sponsorship letter is ready to be rolled out later this week; in early July, roll out registration to give recogni-tion to sponsors and allow ample time for people to consider participating; reminder to exclude CSs on the email blast (Thomas). Armando – eating at these events poses a challenge because of social distancing Lexy – place blurb on the website regarding COVID-19 for this event and all DAPL events. Thomas supports moving forward with this AAPL Director’s Report: Repor ted by Caroline Hansen. Suppor t requested by the AAPL to proctor RPL/CPL exam in July due to COVID-19 – July 24, 7-3PM (tentative), Courtyard Marriott Downtown. David and Jason volunteered. Crosby can post about this on social media. AAPL Exec. Board Meeting is 6/17. Golf Committee: Repor ted by Armando Trevino. 2 options: 9/25 at Keystone OR 10/16 at Fox Hollow. Both days are Fridays. Lot of people pushing for Fox Hollow at this point but Keystone still a possibility. Probably going to stick with Fox Hollow. By mid-July, should have a better understanding of which way to go – registration to open thereafter. Board should be prepared to vote on this at July Board Meeting. Landman Support Committee: Repor ted by Caroline Hansen . LinkedIn and the like have proven to be most beneficial during these difficult times. Rockies Bash Committee: Repor ted by Lexy Mastroianni. Normally star t planning in June but this year is different. Has not reached out to Wynkoop Brewery yet. Some previous vendors out of business. Will Wynkoop be an option due to COVID-19? No financial obligation to save the date – so Lexy will secure a date just in case. Thomas – Multiple locations with limited attendees at each location? Lexy would need help to pull this off – lot of effort to do this. Tyler – Outdoor venue? Would have to move to August due to weather concerns. Scholarship Committee: No update. Networking Committee: No update. Miscellaneous Inclusiveness: Thomas – There has been a huge response to the murder of George Floyd. Opportunity to reaf-firm what we stand for as an organization. How can the DAPL be more inclusive? Should we make a state-ment? Gil – put a statement on website; volunteered to spearhead with Jason to assist. DAPL Name Change: Gil – wait until September? Tyler – wait until after renewals AND separate this from the inclusiveness message above. Shelly to figure out how to do this per the DAPL Bylaws. Pres. Tyler Aylor adjourned the meeting at 12:58 PM MT
