The Ozone Spring Run Committee did a fantastic job organizing and recruiting runners for the twenty-sixth run. 327 runners, a 49% increase from last year, turned out to take on the course. Not since the early 90’s have we had that many participants. The committee members are: Bob Pecunia ‘61, Chairman, Allen Seither ’59, Paul Alexius ’61, Larry Kyte ’57, Lee Alexius ’63, Ronnie Melancon ’60, Mike McMurray ’63, Matt Hardey ’69, Preston Hammons and Craig Cowand, Honorary Members of Alumni Association Dian Lusher, Dynel Inc. and Diane Weiss, 15th Street Flyers. What a great day! Proceeds of the event will assist with financial aid for our students in the name of the family of Mickey Champagne ‘62. Career Day

Capital Campaign Phase II – La Salle Hall Renovation Honoring the past while embracing the future

The work on LaSalle Hall continues. Demolition of the center wing is complete and the outer wings are being prepared for new construction to begin the week of April 4th. The plan for the courtyard is almost complete and new underground plumbing lines will soon be dug. by Trevor Watkins ’79, Academic Vice Principal

The members of the senior class of Saint Paul’s welcomed several alumni to campus on Tuesday, March 29th for the annual Career Day. Alumni Director, Mike Richard ‘68, invited a number of distinguished alumni to speak with the students about the duties and education required for jobs in their individual fields. Speakers for the event are pictured at right: John Curren ‘92, stock broker from Charles Schwab; Air Force Major Brad Boudreaux ’90, pilot with the Air Force Hurricane Hunters; Vincent Cangiamilla ’03 , architect with Fauntleroy, Latham, Weldon, Barre’ Architects; Jason Piper ‘06 with Mallory Alexander International Logistics; Adam Martin ‘06 with Kent Construction; Robert Barkerding ‘92 with Ethicon Endo-Surgery and Ben Morvant ‘04 with the Office of Admissions of Millsaps College . The students were divided into small groups and rotated through seven stations to see a presentation by each speaker and then have a question and answer session. The seniors appreciated the honest and factual presentations about the world of work. The Alumni Association sponsored the event that benefitted both the students and alumni.

Major renovation work began on La Salle Hall on Wednesday, January 26th. La Salle Hall, built in the mid-1960’s, served for almost forty years as a dormitory for our boarding students. Since the boarding program closed in 2002, the building has mostly been unoccupied, with just a few classes taking up its immense space. In honor of our Centennial, we are happy to announce that the renovation of this facility will provide classrooms, offices for campus ministry, guidance and ROTC along with labs and storage space. In addition, this renovated facility will give added beauty and functionality to that part of the campus. More information on how this renovation will benefit your sons will be given in the next issue of Wolftracks. by Brother Gale Condit, FSC

School News

On Monday, March 14th the faculty and students of Saint Paul’s were once again delighted by the magnificent presentation of a Saint Joseph’s Altar in the Student Center organized by Ann Kay Logarbo, members of the Saint Paul’s Mothers’ Cub, and friends of the school. The altar covered the front of the stage and included all of the traditional foods, a chocolate rosary, flowers, candles and icons of the saints. A prayer request book was stationed at the front table where many teachers and students listed prayer requests. Saint Joseph medals and the traditional favabeans were distributed there as mementos of the event. The students visited the altar during their Religion classes, and then were invited to a wonderful lunch provided by the altar workers. Every variety of traditional food was presented and consumed. Everyone is appreciative of the enormous amount of work and the hours of labor volunteers donated to present this wonderful Sicilian tradition to Saint Paul’s

Over four hundred people attended Saint Paul’s eleventh annual Celebrity Waiters’ Dinner, sponsored by Saint Paul’s Renaissance Board. The “Irish-Italian New Orleans Style” theme inspired many people to decorate their tables and come in costumes. Nearly fifty percent of the faculty volunteered for a variety of jobs to make the event run smoothly. Benedict’s Plantation served appetizers and a full course meal with a chicken breast stuffed with artichoke dressing and a stuffed eggplant with crabmeat as the entrée. Members of the Saint Paul’s Band entertained guests with Irish and Italian tunes during the social period followed by our ever enthusiastic Marching Band. Our AFJROTC unit directed people to the student center and the honor guard posted the colors. The live auction was definitely “Lively”. This year we had professional auctioneer, Joey Fortner, who was quite entertaining. The high bid item was a one-week stay in St. Martin Island in the Caribbean that sold for twelve thousand dollars. Inquiries are already being made as to next year’s event date and theme! Enjoy this Youtube video of the event! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_EDzbT2848

FACES IN THE CROWD

Saint Paul's senior, Ty Timphony, has been selected by Sports Illustrated Magazine to be one of "Faces in the Crowd" for the week of March 28th. Ty won the 5A Louisiana State Powerlifting title for the 165 weight class. He now holds the state deadlift record with 590 pounds. With the bonus lift given for setting that mark, he deadlifted 600 pounds for a national record in the sixteen-seventeen year old division. In September of 2010 he was the teen champion at the Professional Raw Powerlifting Association meet held in New Orleans. Coach Joe Dickens states, “Ty has an amazing work ethic and always conducts himself with integrity, maturity, and dependability. It was a truly awesome way to end his high school career.” The view the entire article, click on Ty in SI .

The annual Saint Paul’s Mother/Son Brunch was held on Sunday, March 20, 2011 in the Student Center. The brunch is held every year to celebrate the Mother/Son fellowship. Committee chair Lesley Lozes along with her committee members did a wonderful job of turning the student center into a beautiful area for a Sunday morning brunch. Keith Young’s restaurant provided a wonderful meal while we listened to a prayer program by Saint Paul’s Lasallian youth group. All attendees were welcomed by Mother’s Club President Chari Vairin. Several members of the eighth grade class were asked to read from the popular book, “Love you Forever”. Later, at the request of Brother Ray Bulliard, FSC, seniors Harrison Richard, Connor Rougelet, George Morgan, Adam Grashoff, and Reagan Reed presented reflections on life with their moms. The Centennial Mother/Son Brunch was closed with a prayer. We look forward to gathering together again next year. by Chari Vairin
