Coronavirus, the Flu and Good Health Practices: Given the concerns and media attention surrounding Coro-navirus and the seasonal spike in flu-related illnesses, it is important that we follow good health and everyday pre-vention practices such as washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, covering a cough or sneeze with a tissue, etc. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Chicago Department of Public Health (CHPH) both maintain webpages for information about the evolving situation with Coronavirus, smart pre-ventive measures and more. Per guidance issued by the CDPH, “there is no need for business, community, faith-based or other organizations in Chicago to take any special precautions, including organizations that may have members or employees who have travelled to China. A person who has traveled overseas to China and is well is NOT restricted from work, school or any public activi-ties.” Furthermore, the CDPH does not recommend the use of masks or gloves, any change in daily travel rou-tines, social distancing, cancelling or avoiding mass gath-erings, missing work, classes or other public events. Please Make Your Gift to the 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal

Come, follow me...and heal our world This weekend, our parish will be conducting the An-nual Catholic Appeal in-pew Commitment Week-end. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments. The Annual Catholic Appeal theme, “Come, follow me...and heal our world”, was selected to remind us to continue to answer Jesus’ call to follow Him in thought, word and deed by providing the necessary contribution to fund ministries and services to share God’’s love with many others in our parish and our archdiocese. The 2020 goal for St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish is $16,942. As you know, when contribu-tions exceed the goal, our parish will receive a re-bate from those donated funds. Each pledge make a difference! All parish commu-nitieis participate in the campaignand the gifts of many enable our parishes, schools, and ministries to deliver needed services. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.

OFFERING TO ST. MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA PARISH

As we continue to work on the unification of Parish operations, we now have a bank account under the name of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The change will help with daily parish operations, simplifying accounting and, ultimately, save us some costs. In order to help us with this process, please start mak-ing your offering checks payable to St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish. If you are using online giving (Give Central), you don’t need to make any changes.

Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength accord-ing to one‘s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast, as well as abstinence, are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday.

Visits to the Sick Those who visit the sick should help them to pray, sharing with them the word of God proclaimed in the assembly from which their sickness has separated them. (Pastoral Care of the Sick: Rites of Anointing and Viaticum, 46) When a member of our church falls ill, our thoughts often turn to the priest. He alone can administer the sacrament of the sick with blessed oil. He alone grants forgiveness in the Sacra-ment of Penance. But anyone can visit the sick. Even you! You probably do already, but you may not realize that you may act as a minister of the Church while you’re there. All the Church’s official prayers for the sick come from a book called Pastoral Care of the Sick: Rites of Anointing and Viaticum. It has chapters describing how the priest anoints. But it opens with a chapter on Visits to the Sick. A priest may visit the sick, but so may any layperson. The liturgy is very simple. The minister may invite everyone to observe silence. Then someone reads a passage from the Bible. You may choose Acts 3:1–10 or Matthew 8:14–17, or one of the Scriptures from Sunday, or any other passage of significance to the household. A Responsorial Psalm, such as 102 or 27, follows this proclamation. The minister may then give an explanation of the readings and apply them to the needs of the sick and the caregivers. All pray the Lord’s Prayer. The minister concludes with a prayer and blessing, perhaps tracing the Sign of the Cross on the forehead of the sick person. In these ways, you can bring the liturgy of the Church to those who are separated from the assem-bly of believers. Sacraments © 2020 Archdiocese of Chicago: Liturgy Training Publications. St. Valentine’s Teacher Appreciation

Love is in the air for all of our wonderful teachers! STPA hosted a beautiful taco lunch for both cam-puses to express gratitude for their hard work and dedication for all they bring to the classroom.

Junior Kindergarten Makes Pretzels with Ms. G!

Last week, Ms. G’s JK class had the opportunity to make heart-shaped pretzels at school. The stu-dents were excited to use their hands and get down to work as they produced delicious labor of love.

God’s Heavenly Kingdom by Sister Caritas

When I began going to Catholic school in the 5th Grade, there was an older pastor. He was a Monsignor. He did not walk well. Every month he would come to school and go to every classroom and quote a scripture passage. He would bless us and leave until he returned the next month. We did not see him except once in a while outside near the Rectory. All these many years and I still remember him and the passage he always quoted. It is in today’s second reading. “What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him.” There are very many beautiful things in our world, such as sunrises, sun, sets, mountains and many other things of God’s creation. The passage says even all these wonderful things are not as beautiful or wonderful as what awaits us in heaven. All the profound things we have heard; all the beautiful music we have listened to, is far surpassed by what we will hear in heaven. The passage tells us that we cannot even imagine or dream of what heaven will really be like. We will know unending peace, joy, and happiness. There will be no sickness, death, or suffering. All of this God has prepared “for those who love him”. This is the destiny for which we were all created, to be with God in heaven. What are each of us willing to give to reach the kingdom of heaven? Can you keep the commandments God has given? Can you live loving God above all things and your neighbor as yourself? Will you reach out to others and share the Word of God, the way of Jesus? Will you open yourself to God’s Spirit so God can act through you to further the Kingdom of God on earth and, thereby, reach this glorious heavenly kingdom which is the mystery God “has prepared for those who love Him”?
