FROM THE PASTOR

2

IT’S TIME!

Now that your call committee has been installed

and ready to begin their tasks, it is important to

keep them in your prayers! They have an immense

and awesome responsibility in behalf of First

Lutheran Church. As the search process moves

forward, they will be asked to provide public notes

of all their meetings for the congregation to see as

well as regular, public updates as to their progress

on Sunday mornings. Their meeting notes will

be available for examination by you just as the

Transition Team notes were provided for anyone

to read. These updates are meant to keep you

informed and to keep the call committee from being

constantly questioned about progress so they can

focus upon their work.

This is a very important ‘crossroad’ in your

congregational history. The person called to the role

of senior pastor will help you shape and define your

ministry in the immediate future for years to come.

As one council member

stated recently, “We

have to do this right.

We need to choose our

committee carefully

as their candidate of

choice is so important

for our future as a

church.” I couldn’t

agree more.

It’s an exciting time for your congregation. It would

not surprise me if some folks are feeling nervous

and excited at the same time! Because this process

is so important, your prayers and support for the call

committee are coveted and most necessary!

Pr. Bill Odermann

PleASe nOTe: The church office will be closed Monday, April 6th

in observance of the Easter holiday.

GOING ON 160 FACTOID #7: The first stone for the current First Lutheran Church building was laid on June 20, 1895. Total cost: $23,000.00 ($657,000.00 in 2014 dollars!) In 2002, First Lutheran received a Preservation Award of Merit by the Red Wing Preservation Commission.

HELP US PLAN OUR 160TH ANNIvERSARY CELEBRATIONNext September First Lutheran will be celebrating 160 years. Charles Anderson and Marilee are interested in getting a committee together to plan some special events for that time to celebrate First Lutheran through the years. Talk to either Charles or Marilee to express interest.

160th ANNIvERSARY

The Barbary Coast Dixieland Band has been together since 1967. Elected to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2001 and rated among the finest entertainers in the Midwest, the band has played everywhere from the Mississippi paddle wheel boats and the Minnesota State Fair, to Nagasaki, Japan.

The band is made up of six talented musicians who play 18 instruments. Led by left-handed banjo/guitar player Dick Petersen, the band includes Tom Andrews on drums, clarinet, and vocals; Jim ten Bensel on trombone, cornet, drums, and vocals; Russ Peterson on trumpet, trombone, sax, clarinet, flute, bass, and vocals; Steve Pikal on bass, trombone, and piano; and, finally, Fred Richardson on clarinet, bass, and vocals. ENDOWMENT FUND REPORTWe want to thank everyone who contributed money for their birthdays, $1 for every year of life, and also made other contributions that came to $1,546.00 in 2014, along with the interest from our investments.
