Congregation Council Reports

Congregation Council President – Donna Carey

April 15th Council Meeting:

Congregation Partnership (Sharing Pastor) Update:

Council went over how the event went on meeting #2 and approved to move forward with next steps. I will be reaching

out to Greg May for further discussion processes. It was mentioned to have the financial committees from both

churches meet sometime in May if possible. Council will be setting up a Town Hall meeting after one of our services

soon to allow the congregation to have open discussions on the potential partnership, answer some questions, and get

feedback. Dean Gail Wolling was present at the meeting to go over where we are at this point and give some

suggestions.

*** These meetings are still exploratory in nature. The Call Committee will still be working their part in finding a half time

Pastor for St. Paul’s.

Transitional Pastor:

Please Welcome Pastor Deb Stein!! Council has approved the letter of agreement and accepts Pastor Deb Stein as our

Transitional Pastor beginning on May 1st. There will be other supply pastors filling in also. A calendar of her time and

days, etc., was made available to the council members as well as being available in the office. Please make her feel

welcome.

Super Sunday:

Tentative date is set for September 15th. More details to come in the following months.

God’s Peace,

Donna

Finance-Peter Dunham

Review of our financial status through the first quarter of 2019 indicates that St. Paul’s is in the unusually good situation

of having significantly higher income than planned, while expenditures continue to be close to the budget. This is due to

unexpected, unpledged income of more than $7,000 during the quarter, raising our bank account balances to over

$75,000. The Finance Committee continues to consider a plan to invest a portion of the Designated or Restricted

portion in a higher income account while maintaining the necessary low risk and liquidity. The remaining portion is

considered necessary to cover changes in cash flow throughout the year.

The first quarter investment funds report reveals that our socially conscious investment portfolio has earned

approximately 9% during the first quarter, or almost two times the benchmark index. After making the distributions

approved at the Annual Meeting, the Omega Fund balance is 1.3% below its Historical Dollar Value (HDV), while the

Seidenfuss fund is below its HDV by 3.4%. The St. Paul’s Income Fund balance, after having received $775 in

contributions during the first quarter, is below its HDV by 6.4%. As indicated at the Annual Meeting, we planned to

recompute the appropriate distribution from the Seidenfuss Fund and St. Paul’s Income Fund each quarter. Considering

that any distribution at this time would not be needed for current expenses, and effectively increase bank deposits not

earning significant income, the Council, on Finance Committee advice, has decided to leave the deposits in the

investment accounts to continue to earn income. This will continue to be evaluated again at the end of each quarter.

Efforts to release the restrictions on several unusable funds by contacting the original donors or other means continue

to be pursued.

As always, the Finance Team would welcome new members, so if you are interested, please let me or Pat Newton know.

Thank you to those that have signed up for automated giving. We have passed a threshold that lowered our costs considerably. If you are interested in signing up for automated giving using your debit card, credit card, or ACH, please contact Pat Newton or Sue Smith. By giving automatically, you help the church keep consistent income throughout the year. The staff, programs, benevolence, and general overhead of the church do not stop over the summer. Please keep your pledges and general giving current. Thank you. SUNDAY SCHOOL PARENTS, PLEASE REMIND YOUR STUDENTS ABOUT THEIR ENVELOPES. OUR ANNUAL

BUDGET INCLUDES GIVING BY THE STUDENTS.

PINWHEELS FOR PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE. We collected enough money to purchase 300 pinwheels for our church

yard. Our pinwheel brigade placed them on the lawn around the church. Take a look at the photos posted on the picture

board in Dudde Hall of the pinwheel brigade. Thanks to everyone for your support of this project through McMahon Ryan

Child Advocacy Center for the awareness and prevention of child abuse and exploitation. And thank you to everyone who

came out on a cold windy day to place them on our lawn!

OUTSIDE OUR WALLS We have begun getting information about St. Paul’s volunteering out into our Liverpool Community.

More news on that to come, but we do have plans for a bake sale in June in conjunction with the Historical Association of

Greater Liverpool. See our article below. We will be looking for baking volunteers.

BAKE SALE JUNE 8, 12 – 4 PM, AT THE HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION OF GREATER LIVERPOOL St. Paul’s will have a table at the

Summer Opening Day Celebration for the Willow Museum next to the Gleason Mansion (behind the Police station on Second

St.) We will be selling baked goods and will need to have some volunteer bakers. Baked goods for the sale can be dropped

off at the church kitchen during office hours that week or bakers can reach out to Rachel Kraynak to deliver your baked goods

at another time. Proceeds will benefit St. Paul’s.

ST. PAUL’S T-SHIRT FUNDRAISER Stay posted as we are making plans for shirt sales coming up.

THE NORTHERN 6 LUTHERAN CHURCHES meet monthly. The next meeting is April 28 at 6 pm at King of Kings. Rita Newton

and Cheryl Aupperle will be attending. If there are events that you would like to share with the group, email me or give me

flyers, etc. and I can bring news to the group. Anyone is invited to attend these meetings.

WE INVITE THE COMMUNITY to many events here at St. Paul’s. Please remember to share a friendly hello and warm

welcome from our St. Paul’s members to our visitors!

Social Ministry-Sharon Jerge

It felt like Spring! Easter Food and Supplies Baskets were assembled and delivered here at church and to families connected with InterFaith Works downtown, too! Thank you for all the food, hams, monies donated here at church and to Thrivent Financial, who supported our efforts through Action Project funds! Our gifts were gratefully received!! In May we focus on ELCA World Hunger and our response to that appeal. Throughout the year our church collects (in the shopping cart across from the church office) various foods and supplies that are donated to our local food pantry located at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church… and your gifts have been very generous and appreciated! Also, many of us deposit can tabs (from vegetable, soda, soup, dog/cat food, etc.) into the jug outside the church office area. These are taken in June to the Synod Assembly to support World Hunger causes. Later this month a special collection will be taken at our church service to support World Hunger and those monies will be taken to the Synod Assembly, too. ELCA World Hunger develops and supports over 300 programs directly within communities by providing food immediately and cultivating “growing food” skills for future needs. In many ways, St. Paul’s is dealing with the concerns of “hunger” monthly and I hope we can continue to support ELCA World Hunger on this world-wide issue, too! A special “thank you” from InterFaith Works upon delivering the Easter baskets and bags of gently used towels, blankets, and sheets/pillow cases…and a portable sewing machine! They were thrilled!! We continue to collect these items and those listed below in the box located on the left hand side of the Sunday School hallway. If a pick-up is needed, please do not hesitate to call me (Sharon: 315-622-0992). Needed: “Gently used or new,” please…. Adult puzzles (100,200,300,500 pieces), playing cards, Games: Chess, Checkers, Connect Four, Dominos, Scrabble, Yarn, knitting/crochet hooks, Pots and pans (No Teflon) Blankets, sheets/pillow cases, towels/washcloths Canes, walkers, Portable sewing machines (Does not have to in perfect working order…they have a “Tinker!”). **Keep this date on your calendar….”God’s Work…Our Hands Sunday” ` September 8th!!!
