Thank you for such a wonderful installation service on Sunday, July 9. Being able to gather together with you and so many important people from different parts of my life was such a blessing. I know that a lot of planning, time, and energy went into the service and the reception. Thank you! This summer has been a busy one in the life of our church with Passport Kids and youth trips and a fantastic month- long VBS Faith and Arts Camp that is still underway. We will have a Backpack Blessing Service for our kids on Sunday, August 13 as our children head back to school so that we can pray for them and for all those who serve as teachers, administrators, counselors, bus drivers, and aides. As I reflect on all the ways that we have been reaching out to children, youth, and their families this summer, I am reminded of Jesus words, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14). The disciples believed that the children at Jesus’ feet were a distraction with their sticky fingers and loud cries. But Jesus spent time listening to them, paying attention to their needs, and learning about their lives. Jesus believed that there was something important that children could teach us about what it means to inhabit God’s kingdom. I am so proud to serve at a church that has always prioritized its ministry to children and youth. Dr. Clark, the longtime pastor here, believed so strongly in the church being a place of spiritual formation and care for its youngest members that he founded our preschool and met with teenagers on the weekends in his own home. As we live into that legacy, it is my dream that each member of our church would find ways to invest in and nurture the faith of children and youth and their parents. There are many ways to do that— whether it is by teaching Sunday school, leading Bible friends, serving in the nursery, chaperoning mission trips, or simply inviting your neighbors to church. May we become a church that says, “Let the little children come to us!” For in their coming, we learn more about what it looks like to live in the kingdom of God and what it looks like to follow Christ. Kristin’s Youth Scoop

Our youth had a fantastic time at Passport Missions in Danville, Virginia. During their time there

they served at various locations around the community. Two of our youth, Shane Everhart and

Carly Kaderli, won honor camper awards for their service. Two of our youth, Sarah Jones and

Claire Sumner, led in our corporate worship services. And ALL of our youth worked hard to

show the love of Christ to that community. I am so thankful for their energy, compassion, and

good humor over a week of hard work and growth.

I am also thankful for our fearless chaperones, Bob Bragg and Courtney McCalley, who, through

their good humor and commitment helped model faithful service and discipleship throughout the

week. We had a great week together!

As we look ahead to the rest of the summer, I hope you will mark your calendars for these

upcoming events:

July 30: Youth Provide Snacks for the Sunday Fellowship

August 6: 301 Open House for new youth (9:45 am)

August 13: Backpack Blessings (8:30 and 11:00 am services)

I hope you will join us as we finish out the summer!

Hunting Ridge Retreat

Summer kicked off with Mission Network Activities, a week long Catholic girls re-treat. They came packing the place full with their activities, games, skits and smiles. One day they had a “Messy Olympics” in the fields and invited the Gainesboro Fire & Rescue Company to come hose them off after their games. It was a good time for

all!

On their heels was the Vocare Family Foun-dation, packing HRR out for two weekends in a row. Vocare brings all ages together for

times of refreshment, games, activities, devo-tionals, and meals with the emphasis on doing everything as one unit: the Family. One day they even shared a picnic down at the primi-

tive camp!

By the time you are reading this, we will be heading into our second week of the Jeremiah Project, the middle school summer camp that serves the needy in our

community. As always, you are welcome to come out and serve a meal alongside us and get a glimpse of what summer is all about at Hunting Ridge Retreat.

Announcements

A huge thank you to the Men’s Bible Class & Philia Class for rescuing us last week!! Our stove went out and in the same week, a storm took down the electric to the pavilion. The Men’s Bible Class, together with the Philia Class, decided to

cover both the new stove and the electrical project and we are SO THANKFUL!!

Hunting Ridge is in need of a vehicle to run errands, go grocery shopping, haul equipment, etc. as our current ve-hicle is on its last leg. The HRR Committee would like to first ask YOU, the FBC body, in case you all felt led to

give. Even if you don’t have the exact vehicle we are looking for, we could sell a donated car and put the proceeds towards the new SUV.

After looking into what our exact needs are, we have come up with the following list of possible vehicles, suggest-ed mileage and features.

Necessary Features: Possible Options:

4 Wheel Drive Chevy Blazer, Envoy

6 or 8 cylinder GM Terrain

AC (to aid in transport of food) Jeep Grand Cherokee

Folding rear seats to allow for more cargo room Honda Pilot

Automatic Ford Explorer

4 Door would be best to allow for ease of loading Toyota Sequoia, Forerunner

3-5 Years Old

60,000 Miles or Less

Contact the HRR Office at 540-662-9004 if you have questions or would like to make a donation! A huge thank you for helping us out in our time of need!

Children’s Ministry This June 9, children and 4 adults stayed in Walnut lodge at Eagle Eyrie to attend Passport Kids camp! At Passport we focused on doing justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with God. I always look forward to becoming a big weird family in our cabin and singing loud, funny songs

during morning celebration. It's a hectic schedule but year after year our FBC kids make me proud! They follow directions and work together to look out for one another. They are respectful to our chaperones and the Passport staff. They play hard but also focus hard. I am thankful to our

chaperones for helping to make this a wonderful experience for our kids and grateful for the opportunity to attend camp year after year!

Women on Mission are seeking 50 volunteers for August 19 at 9:00am.

Volunteers needed include our strong youth, men and women to help load and unload our truck

full of food donations.

Women on Mission is also seeking donations of snack items for our volunteers to enjoy while they

work.

If interested in volunteering with this worthwhile mission or if you simply have questions, please

contact Linda Fletcher ([email protected]) or Claudine Stubblefield

([email protected]).
