From the Pastor…

Let me begin by say, “Happy New Year 2019!” to everyone. I hope and pray that this is going to be a great year for all of us. My prayer is that when this year comes to a close we will have won many people to Christ, and the church will be much stronger.

4. Build on high ground! For safety’s sake, travel in pairs!

5. Don’t forget we’re all in the same boat.

6. Remember, it was the amateurs who built the Ark and the professionals who built the Titanic!

7. Remember the woodpeckers inside are often a bigger threat than the storm on the outside.

8. No Matter how bleak it looks, if God is with you, there is a Rainbow on the other side!

In this new year may we have the foundational building blocks of Vision, Commitment, Faith and Sacrifice to make it through another year.

May God bless us all as we go forward for the Lord.

A Note from our

Moderator

Welcome to a new year folks. How was 2018 for you and your family? How about your church family? If you will think back to some the church events of 2018, a lot has happened. We had a minister resign and hired an interim pastor. We sold the rent house and the church is debt-free by paying off the loan for the remodel of 2006. Monday’s Kitchen has been suspended and we will be considering other outreach possibilities.

I look forward to 2019 and to working with our church family with renewed interest in our ministry at FCC and with a renewed caring for our members and future members.

As many of you are aware, in the past, we have had the following committees: Education, Faith-Sharing, Membership, Outreach, Property, Worship, and Special Events. Each of these committees have a list of responsibilities. I will be forming a Moderator Council consisting of 5 or 6 members that will meet regularly to discuss ways to meet the needs of the church and to plan activities. The Council will be looking at these committees’ responsibilities and possibly combine some of the committees, and or responsibilities. These plans or changes will be presented to the church board for approval.

If you are interested in working in this type of environment,

Disciple Men

“The Joy of Leaving a Legacy of Faith”

Mentoring. Coaching. Teaching. Discipleship.

Jesus calls his disciples to participate in the process of creating new disciples and guiding the growth of their faith. Why are we given this

responsibility? How can we be successful? How can we ensure that the legacy of our faithfulness as Disciples Men will be passed down to the

younger generations?

Join us as we explore how a holistic view of discipleship creates joy and excitement. Let’s discover the many amazing ways that reaching

the next generation goes beyond workbooks, programs, and meetings. Attend the 2019 BBA/CPA Men’s Retreat on February 15–16 at the

Lodge, Disciple Oaks Conference Center in Gonzales to worship together and participate in a discussion of this important topic.-

• Speaker: Mike Skinner – Lead Pastor, Sweetwater Christian Church • Music: Chris Henderson – Worship Pastor, Sweetwater Christian

Church • Hospitality: Bill Napper/Alton Knight and the entire staff of Disciple

Oaks

Registration is Friday at 4:00 pm at The Lodge. The event kicks off with dinner at 6:00 pm. You are welcome to arrive earlier to fish or just enjoy the outdoors. The retreat will end at 1:30 pm on Saturday, in time for the dedication of the new office building completed as a CCSW Men’s Work Project last year. We are planning for great food, inspirational singing and a challenging message from our speaker, with discussions to ensue. We also will have access to the property during the weekend for nature walks, camp fires, fishing and indoor table games.

WHAT IS EPIPHANY?

An epiphany is described as a new insight or “an intuitive grasp of reality through something (as an event) usually simple and striking an illuminating discovery”. The Epiphany is a day or time of celebration for many Christian religions because it is the time that Jesus was revealed or shown to the world.

On the day Jesus was born, not many throughout the lands knew of this glorious event. Wise men, shepherds, and others came from far away lands to worship the baby Jesus.

There were several wise men that had been sent by King Herod to find the newborn baby Jesus. The wise men “Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the east, went before them until it came and stood over where the child was. And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him; and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:9-11)

In some religions and some countries, Epiphany is a day of celebration and is held on January 6th which is the twelfth day after Christmas. The focus is on the actual mission of Jesus’ arrival on earth which is one of peace and salvation for all people. Jesus offered salvation to all on earth. It was and still is up to each individual to choose the direction for his or her own life. In the end, each will be held accountable for his or her choice.

Epiphany. The period lasts from the birth of Jesus on December 25th through the day Jesus was revealed on January 6th. The entire period is a time for celebration in various ways.
