...new life starts in the dark. Whether it is a seed in the ground, a baby in the womb, or Jesus in the tomb, it starts in the dark.

~ Barbara Brown Taylor, Learning to Walk in the Dark

Invocation Alyssa Aldape

Call to Worship Come, let us enter the land that God has prepared for us, God leads the way and makes our footsteps sure. Our days of wandering in the barren desert are at an end. God leads the way and makes our footsteps sure. Hungry and thirsty, we cry out in deep despair. God leads the way and makes our footsteps sure. As in the waters of our baptism, we cross over the Jordan. God leads the way and makes our footsteps sure. The land is fertile and rich, with good rain in season. God leads the way and makes our footsteps sure. The harvest is bountiful. We dwell in the land God has prepared for us.

*Hymn for Guidance No. 33 Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah CWM RHONDDA

Litany of Trust When we stand at the edge of fear and worry, God invites us to step into the waters of faith and trust. When we stand at the edge of the world’s pain and need, Jesus invites us to step into the land of humble service. When we stand at the edge of our hunger and thirst, the Spirit invites us to sit at the Table of grace.

Message in Song Grace for This Broken Soul arr. Jay RouseFirst Light

Bring back my heart to Thee alone, though wounded, sinful-prone.Of deep desire and strongest grace, reclaim me for Your own.

O come and take me to the cross: its sorrow makes me whole,My greatest gain, it was Your loss: grace for this broken soul.

A slave to You my one desire in whole and not in part,‘til You consume me like a fire and cleanse my guilty heart.

All that I am to You I bring; my life is Yours alone.Gratefully to Your cross I cling and bow before Your throne.

Scripture Reading Psalm 107:1-7, 33-37 Andrew ShafferThe Word of God for the people of God

Thanks be to God.

*A Hymn of Trust No. 68 He Leadeth Me HE LEADETH ME

Offertory My Faith Has Found a Resting Place/The Solid Rock arr. Brant Adams

Offertory MeditationMy Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following Your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this You will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust You always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for You are ever with me, and You will never leave me to face my perils alone. ~ Thomas Merton, Thoughts in Solitude

It is our privilege to have you worshipping with us today at First Baptist Church of Dalton! Today you are worshipping with a strong and vibrant congregation with a missional heart, who is committed to revealing the living presence of Jesus Christ in our world today. Would you allow us the pleasure of getting to know you a little better by completing the beige visitor registration card from the pew rack and placing it in the offering plate later in the service? You are also invited to submit prayer requests using the prayer cards in the pew rack. Please pass your prayer card to the center aisle where it will be collected during the Prelude. Hearing devices are available for those who need them. Please ask an usher for assistance. Childcare is also available for preschoolers during our worship services. Information and assistance are available at our Preschool Registration Suite Area. Children’s bulletins are also available from the ushers. So that we might maintain a spirit of worship, please turn off all cell phones and pagers as you enter the Sanctuary.

Welcome!
