In this book the main character, Artagnan,, goes on several adventures in sixteenth century France. In all his quests Artagnan persists in becoming one of the King’s musketeers that serve under M. de Treville. Upon leaving M. de Treville, Artgnan meets Athos, Porthos and Aramis. Later he meets a kind loving woman named Lady de Winter. While visiting her, he accidentally intercepts a letter intended for Lady de Winter’s lover. The night before they leave for the siege of La Rochelle, Lady de Winter finds out Artagnan dressed up as her lover and tries to kill him. At the siege, Lady de Winter attempts to kill him twice more. After the second attempt, Cardinal Richelieu makes him a musketeer. Athos and company have always known that Cardinal Richelieu was evil but accepted the same. At the end of the book Artagnan is granted a commission that will promote him to general.
