At Backelite, conceiving, designing and implementing digital services means making users' lives easier.

THE QUEST FOR USER SATISFACTIONAT THE HEART OF PROJECTS IN 2016

The designer is not the user

Ethnography, tests, field observations and knowledge about users and their usage become indispensable for identifying market opportunities while understanding what works and what doesn't.

INNOVATION THROUGH DESIGN THINKING

BACKELITE

Co-creating and rapidly prototyping a product or service together with the user will become widespread in 2016.

Companies will increasingly apply alternative project co-creation methods.

"Problem-solving” orientation is gaining traction, providing users with personalized answers.

Design thinking is spreading, creating concepts and prototypes more rapidly.

DESIGNING AN EXPERIENCE IS NOT ONLY DESIGNING AN INTERFACE

The interface is the most visible part of the experience; it is the visual translation of a strategy and information architecture.

AN EXPERIENCE CAN ALSO TAKE PLACE…WITHOUT AN INTERFACE

Interface saturation, and a high volume of digital services can lead to an overdose of "There's an app for That!”

Invisible applications or "conversational apps"

These reservation or concierge services work only through SMS or Facebook Messenger

No interface or “digital telepathy”

No need for intermediate supports, thanks to voice, gesture and face recognition

ANTICIPATING OUR NEEDSAND DESIRES

"Conversational" services seek to satisfy our needs by addressing them for us; the next step is predicting them, which relies largely on machine learning.

Google Now lets me know the best time to go back home based on estimated travel time

Digit keeps track of my recurring expenses and buying habits, saving "without my knowing” a few cents or dollars to my account

ACCELERATED CONCEPTUALIZATION METHODS

A single objective: arrive at a concrete proposal faster, which all project stakeholders will agree to.

BACKELITE

The hackathon involves small teams competing with each other to conceptualize and develop a prototype on a given theme within 2 to 3 days.

The design sprint is a 5-day process:

1. Unpack2. Sketch3. Decide4. Prototype5. Test

MORE PROTOTYPING TOOLS,SIMPLER TO USE

There are more prototyping tools than ever, that offer more features than ever

Axure is always a must We can do wonders with Sketch and the Flinto plug-in for animations and transitions

Marvel and Invisionfor their simplicity of use

PROVIDING AN INTERFACE DESIGN METHOD:ATOMIC DESIGN

BACKELITE

Atomic design is a conceptualization method that allows the designer to forget about "pages" and think about "components." The basic elements, atoms, are assembled to obtain molecules that are in turn assembled to create organisms. One can then create templates that serve as a base for the final conceptualization (learn more)

USER TESTINGIS NO LONGER AN OPTION

• Must be done well in advance to verify organization of information (card sorting)

• To test a methodology (zonings, wireframes)

• With a dynamic and interactive prototype for testing the complete experience
