Local OPP Officers Busy with Calls For Service and Traffic

(MIDLAND,ON)- Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were kept busy responding for calls for service on land, roadways and on the water. Officers responded to over 300 calls for service over the August Civic Holiday weekend including 21 being water ways based calls resulting in 17 offences being cleared by charge. 12 motor vehicle collisions were investigated and officers on traffic patrol issued 84 offence notices for speeding including a Tay Township resident who was stopped and provided with a note for court, lost his driving privileges and his Cadillac after being viewed on police radar at 183 Km/hr on Highway 400 in Tay Township. 30 other motorists were served offence notices for various infractions of the Highway Traffic Act and 9 persons were served offence notices for violating the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario. 5 drivers/vessel operators were charged with Impaired Driving and another 3 drivers lost their driving privileges for 3 days after registering a "Warn" on the approved screening device (ASD). Sadly, a 28 year old male from Halton Hills succumbed to injuries he received in a single vehicle crash on Highway 400 Tay Township on the evening of August 5, 2018

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
