Announcements
Parents/Carers,
We are pleased to hear that our students who visited Canberra last week all enjoyed themselves
immensely and are now back at school reflecting on their fantastic experiences. This type of event
doesn’t happen without the support of staff who willingly organise and attend these excursions. Our
Teachers are on duty 24 hours a day for 4/5 days in the week so I would like to thank them very much
for their dedication. We have had some wonderful comments on how well behaved our students were
during this trip and I have received a personal Facebook message from a teacher friend who is on long
service leave and visiting Canberra who came across the students at the War Memorial. She was very
impressed with what she saw and experienced to the point where she commented to the teachers there
and then. There are many stories like this being fed back to us as well. A huge success overall well done
everyone.
Once again with the wet season upon us we are starting to experience afternoon thunderstorms at
school finish time. I would like to remind families to have a plan with your children about travelling
home from school on days where a thunderstorm or heavy rain is upon us at home time. This week we
have had two afternoons where we have had a deluge right at home time. We will not allow students to
leave the school buildings if the storm has lightening and is a direct threat, but when children are
allowed to leave we encourage them to go directly home. Please ensure there is a clear plan and they
know the route home to get themselves there safely.
Last Friday I announced at assembly that we would be opening a competition to name our school
canteen. The name should be connected to our school in some way either through our values or Sports
Houses or anything of notoriety our school community recognises. The competition will be open until
Monday of Week 9 where a panel of selectors made up of a school council parent, Ms Marlene from the
Canteen, a teacher and a year 6 student who did not participate in the competition. The decision of the
judges will be final and the winning name will be painted over our Canteen and the winner will also
receive a mini iPad and the other names shortlisted will receive a movie pass. To find more
information on entering your name for our school canteen please look for the flyer which will be sent
home and posted on our Facebook page Friday next week.
Students have spent the past 3 weeks undertaking our final assessments which inform teachers about
learning. This along with other information assists teachers in their responsibility of writing reports
for parents and gives an overall picture for the year. It is important attendance at school in the final
term is at its best to ensure teachers can do summative assessments and children can complete their
learning cycle for the year. Reports will be sent home in the last week of term.
As we draw closer to the end of the year we prepare for our end of year celebrations. This year we have
been invited to perform at Gateway Shopping Centre for our instrumental, choir and dancers. We will
be sending more information home about this event next week. We have set the date for our End of
Year Awards Assembly which will be held at Palmerston College, Rosebery campus on Friday
7th December commencing at 8.30am. Please mark this in your diary. Teachers will be making contact
with you closer to the time if your child is receiving an award of any kind.
Enjoy the weekend

During the first few weeks of this term we have been busy making
poppies for the WALL OF REMEMBRANCE to display at Memorial
Park in Palmerston. The display will begin a few weeks before
Remembrance Day, so I will deliver the poppies myself, once we
have them made.
As Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday this year, I would like to
extend an Invitation to your children, to come along to the service
and stand together with me, to represent the school and the
Australian Defence Force (ADF) community.
Could you please email me on [email protected] to let
me know if you are interested so I know who will be attending.
I would like to meet at Memorial Park around 10.00am near the
Poppy wall, so we can get organised prior to the start of the service.
All students are required to wear Rosebery Primary School uniform.
Commemorating the 100th year of the Armistice with your child will
be a special moment in time. Please consider your children our
students joining me on behalf of our school community.
