Introduction to The Linden Method by renownedPsychologist Dr. Romulo Valdez. PHD

"As a psychologist that has been treating anxiety anddepression for over 25 years, I can espouse theeffectiveness of the Linden Method.

For those of you that have suffered from eitheranxiety or depression, you know that the medicationonly serves to numb one's experience of the realworld. You also know that "talk therapy" cannot give

you the tranquility that you desperately need. You have most likely spentthousands of dollars of health insurance money and money of your own to findpeace of mind.

The Linden Method gives you all the tools you need to work on your issues onan hour-by-hour basis. The beauty of this method is that you are the master of

your own destiny. You monitor your own progress and rely on other's feedbackto insure progress. Unlike other self-help programs, the Linden Method giveyou one year of ongoing support from a professional like me to help youshould you need it.

Mr. Linden is so confident in it's efficacy that he is willing to give you a oneyear guarantee or he will refund your money. Read the testimonials and givethe Linden Method a trial and you will see for yourself.

I have been trained by the very best in the fields of psychology and psychiatry

as you can see by my credentials, and I endorse the Linden Method withhighest regard. It will give you all that you need but, as in all treatmentmethods, compliance is mandatory. Haven't you suffered enough? The cure isat your disposal. Why wait?"

An Appraisal by Dr Francis TeeneyResearch Fellow, Queens University, Belfast

"Firstly, let me begin by acknowledging my gratitude tomy close friend, colleague, mentor and stout staffProfessor Roddy Cowie of Queen's University Belfast, in

my opinion one of the greatest emotional psychologistsin Europe today. I am sure he would appreciate my oversimplification of the emotional processes described

below given that it is written for the vulnerable and non psychological reader.

Over the years I have worked with many groups of people affected by what iscommonly referred to as "their nerves" and as a consequence, I have usedmany tools to help to alleviate and overcome these issues; in most cases Ihave tried the techniques myself in an effort to ascertain whether it improved

my own wellbeing. These tools ranged from relaxation methods of alldescriptions, herbal remedies, self-improvement programs, hypnosis, Yoga, keep fit and many more. Some of these tools worked better than others andsadly some made matters worse, or just cost a fortune with no results at all. This will all sound familiar to many of you and you should take comfort oftenthe belief is that no one has experienced what you are going through orrecovered WRONG.

To begin I am not a clinical psychologist but rather a research psychologist, with an interest and expertise in human emotions, I believe that I have athorough understanding of what is actually taking place inside the brains ofanxious individuals. I also wish to state that I am working to set up a researchconsortium to investigate the cause and treatment of Chronic FatigueSyndrome/ME. A major symptom in many CFS/ME cases is anxiety. Thisconsortium will be open to academics and practitioners with an interest inemotions and their affect on human health.

The reader will also be glad to hear that The Linden Method and MickelTherapy are pooling resources with regards to the anxiety symptoms of

CFS/ME progress indeed. Also to create maximum transparency theaforementioned consortium will be able to probe, test, advise and advance ourunderstanding of the role of emotions in health.

The psychology of fear has been very well documented for almost 100 years, especially in the writings of William James, the famous American psychologist, whose findings now form an important part of the foundations on whichmodern emotional psychology is built.

I will not bore you with 'science talk', but suffice it to say that James believedthe emotional centers of the brain were pivotal to health, mental stability andgeneral wellbeing. Any greater elaboration of this would require me writing

    5/72

pages and would eventually arrive at the same conclusion. Please rememberthat this summary has been simplified to assist those from a non psychologicalbackground.

Within our mid brain structures lies the emotional center. Our emotions, suchas anger, sadness, joy, fear and boredom, create levels of activity within thebrain that ebb and flow. You can neither laugh nor cry forever even thoughwe sometimes feel as if we have done the latter. In times of high anxiety, inreality, your emotional stability is simply out of balance. Too much of anythingwill eventually leave you unsatisfied including ice cream or your favorite pasttime. Imagine then what too much exposure to stressful situations will do apart from the obvious increase in anxiety levels, they will definitely leave youunsatisfied.

Pressure at work, at home or in relationships, fast or slow lifestyles with littlefulfilment, all lead to emotional instability. What we do know for certain, is that

these excesses are likely to cause the over production of adrenalin; in otherwords, you will be on red alert for too long and places people and things thatonce did not bother you, all of a sudden, become things to avoid at all cost. And yet, your salvation lies not in avoiding these things but in a structuredprogram of anxiety recovery.

You would not run a marathon without training to increase your fitness levels,so why do you expect to succeed without training for rejoining the marathon oflife. Building up new memories, positive memories, emotionally enjoyable

memories, bit by bit is the key to anxiety free fulfilment.

Remember there are no bears or wolves in the local shop William Jamesalluded to this many years ago in his findings about how anxiety builds andmanifests in the human body.

It is possible, without forcing the creation of more anxiety, to replace anxiousreactions and memories with none anxious ones, very quickly.

My personal experience of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), is that it relieson manipulating the cognitive section of the brain. This approach can workvery successfully in some forms of mental illness, but due to its concentrationon cognition it does not address the emotions, which is where I personallyfound it easier said than done.

I detest sprouts and always have, (despite my mother telling me they weregood for me); all the cognitive refocusing I can muster is never going to makeme emotionally satisfied when I sit down to a plate of sprouts. If CBT has

worked to change your circumstances, I am indeed very happy and wish youevery success and happiness in the future. Indeed let me repeat that I am notqualified nor do I intend to adjudicate upon CBT. The same applies to

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    6/72

hypnosis, drug therapy, Yoga, flooding, NLP and all the other therapies. If theywork for you I am happy truly very happy.

Some people do need a break from their daily stress and if their GP hasproscribed them sedatives to use as a crutch in the short term, then Iwholeheartedly agree that temporary relief in extreme anxiety can be far betterthan no relief at all. However, hopefully some day you will try to withdraw thesedatives, hopefully with the help, guidance and advice of your doctor orspecialist, and by then, you will need to have implemented a technique thatallows you to function without sedatives and to eliminate your anxietycompletely. There are many techniques available some more successfulthan others and as I said I have tried many of them personally in an effort toalleviate CFS/ME. Mickel Therapy worked best for me. The anxiety aspect ofmy CFS/ME remained stubborn despite many therapies including EMDR,Hypnosis, CBT, NLP etc. Let me stress these where my personal experiences.Others will report positive results and I am delighted for them.

However I did try the Linden Method and I have noticed very progressiveresults. My family and friends see prolonged periods of my old self confident, vibrant and articulate.

Through my many conversations with Charles and my ongoing work with him,his Method and the research consortium, that includes Mickel Therapy andleading academics, I have had the opportunity to evaluate and personally testCharles' unique program. I have no doubt that The Linden Method works and

clearly see how and why the structure creates recovery; it makes perfectpsychological sense.

I have personally come to the conclusion that The Linden Method is soundlybased in solid psychological understanding. It promotes emotional balance, thedevelopment of new memories of once feared situations, empowers thesufferer to step out with courage, to attempt new challenges and the programis written in easily understandable language; it is also very easy to do.

The testimonials advocate that The Linden Method has helped very manypeople and is an easy to understand program with clear explanations of theprocesses taking place within your mind and body as anxiety disorder retreats. The Linden Method program is backed up by a support network of qualifiedanxiety specialists, psychologists and counsellors, who can simply explain andreassure you about the thoughts, feelings and emotions you are experiencing.Sometimes even a sympathetic understanding voice can help you over thenext hurdle.

The idea that anxiety disorder is simply "nerves" is no explanation at all andwill never satisfy or settle your doubts or anxieties. Similarly, the idea thatanxiety is something you have to 'learn to live with' or that it is a condition that

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    7/72

you can never be free from is simply not true. The Linden Method provides acorrect psychological explanation of your condition, reassurance and clear, structured guidance and is definitely a program for recovery - one that will helpyou create new emotional memories to replace the anxious ones and, inaddition, The Linden Method provides a blueprint for leading an emotionallyfulfilled life.

The Linden Method recognizes and addresses the fact that there are no bearswaiting to attack you, but rather only negative memories of fear that cause andperpetuate your anxiety condition.

The Linden Method shows you how to change those negative, anxiousmemories into happy and emotionally fulfilling ones.

I personally recommend the Linden Method wholeheartedly. It has worked forcountless others and it can work for you as well as it has worked for me.

Finally, there are many out there who would exploit those suffering fromanxiety. I am glad to say that the Linden Method will give you your money backif you do not improve.

I believe that Charles is going a very long way to shutting down the exploitationof sufferers in this guarantee; his experiences at the hand of anxiety disorderfor over 20 years, his 14 years of practice helping sufferers to recover, hisqualified staff and his and his organization's reputations are testament to the

level of respect gained through constantly high results and many thousands ofsuccess stories. Lastly his willingness to join a consortium that will includeacademics and other therapies (such as those lead by Dr. David Mickel)displays an openness to have his Method ruthlessly tested and should bereassuring to those who doubt the efficiency of the Linden Method.

In other words, in my opinion, you have nothing to lose by trying this particularpsychologically supported recovery program but you certainly have everythingto gain."

1Introduction to this book and my program

    PLEASE READ THIS:

I urge you to read this book thoroughly from beginning to end its not long.

Only then will you understand anxiety conditions FULLY and only then will yoube able to remove your unwanted anxiety and all the symptoms it produces.

PLEASE DONT skim through this book you WILL miss vitalinformation.

Over 14 years of practice helping over 155,000 anxiety sufferers from aroundthe world to recover, myself and my team have compiled a database ofinformation about the true nature of anxiety conditions and this book is a

    synopsis of that information.

As an organization, we have most probably helped more people to recoverthan any other resource, treatment center or psychotherapy practice in theworld. In terms of symptoms, there is nothing we havent heard! Believe mewhen I tell you that anxiety disorders can produce some weird and extremesymptoms, thoughts and sensations but, without exception, they are allcompletely harmless.

In this book, I will dispel the rumors, myths and misunderstandings and give

you the benefit of all our experience showing other sufferers how to recoverpermanently and with speed.

Its all very well for doctors and psychologists to tell you that anxiety conditionsare incurable and that management and coping strategies can beimplemented which will, at best, make life tolerable its such a nonsense andit infuriates me.

If anxiety isnt curable, how did I, for one, delete my panic attacks, OCD,agoraphobia and every single symptom without drugs or psychotherapy IN

    DAYS?

Furthermore, how then, did I get thousands of people worldwide well againquickly and convince them to create testimonial emails, videos and audiorecordings, detailing their recoveries? These include doctors, psychologists, celebrities and sports people and even actors and super-models (and more)!

I was told by a director of a government health organization that they had apolicy of managing their cases, that their statistics and targets would bedistorted IF they could cure anxiety disorders; this was after I cured a number

    of their lost cause cases.

I was a threat to their easy lives thats all.

    2YOUR needs provided for

Let me start by saying this:

IF I could download into your head, right now, what Iknow to be fact because I have lived it, you wouldsuffer from anxiety disorder for no more than the nexttwo minutes.

I know exactly what you have to do NOW to feel bettertomorrow and I feel sick when I think of how many

people I CANT reach, who will never benefit. You are here because something I have said somewhere, has hit a nerve with you thank god for that!

WE are NOT about selling books

I am an author with Hay House, the largest self-help publisher in the world sobook sales arent my focus.

We also run residential programs for private individuals and organizations, sowe have a great business that helps many thousands of people and employsan amazing staff of qualified and experienced health professionals.

I am an adviser to government, media, magazines, newspapers and I appearon TV, have my own TV series and help many famous people from the worldof sport, business, film and TV so thats not my focus.

My focus is on CURING YOU.

I dont mind when that happens, BUT it will happen if you allow me to do so.

If you decide to carry on with medication, carry on with counseling or therapyor carry on hoping for a miracle cure, that is your prerogative, however, youwill rejecting what I KNOW will cure you and THAT saddens me.

I benefit enormously from being involved in the running of The Centers and inthe early days, I was the support staff, media relations, accounting, orderprocessing and every other role!

Now that we have helped tens of thousands of ex clients, there is no way I

could do that, which is why I have hand picked an incredible group of peoplewho assist me to maintain the level of service I would expect from myself... thebest!

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    13/72

Our in house psychological staff, our external team of referring psychologistsand other practitioners and the tens of thousands of ex clients who support us,refer other sufferers to us and provide testimonials that prove that what we doworks is humbling.

My wife Beth and I went to a concert in the Manchester City football stadiumrecently and the crowd was over 50,000. Beth turned to me and said youve

helped nearly three times this quantity of people with The Linden Methodhome learning program alone; doesnt that make you feel amazing? I replied,240 times this amount of people suffer from high anxiety in the UK aloneBeth all I see is the fact that I still have them to help!

I do receive many hundreds of emails and letters from Linden Methodmembers but I haven't been on the 'front line' for some time; if I had, I wouldnever get any work done. But lately, I have been playing a more active role incontact with clients in order to judge what it is you need and want from myprograms and also to discover ways to improve how I communicate with you.

Recently we introduced the Anxiety Recovery Retreatshttp://www.anxietyrecoveryretreat.comwhich are two and three day residentialprograms and the curative success of them has been quite incredible.

Its so, so easy to do

I try to distil techniques and instruction down to their simplest form so thatthere is no ambiguity in the message... I want you to FULLY understand every

instruction and concept fully so that you can benefit as effectively and fullyfrom my material as possible that way, recovery is always guaranteed!

Many of my clients approach us believing that they are being 'victimized' bysome sort of external force.

    You are NOT a victim

Anxiety sufferers suggest that their anxiety has been caused by externalinfluences that are 'attacking them' or 'happening to them' in a way which takesaway their own control, whether it be stressors, anxiety itself or maybe just'life'. These people come to me asking for me to 'wave a magic wand' andremove these external influences.

The question I always ask is - do these people believe that they are beingvictimized by these circumstances or do they see themselves as the creator ofthem?

If you believe you are a victim... what message are you sending to yoursubconscious? That you are at the mercy of everything you experience; thatyou are helpless; that you have no control of your 'self' that what you THINK

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    14/72

ALWAYS becomes reality because a thought reinforced with an an actionbecomes your truth!

We are what we think and do!

When you resign yourself to being helpless and powerless, you completelyremove your ability to create change because everything becomes hopeless!

    EVEN when it isn't!

At this stage, you 'switch off' your mind to the options available to you and verysoon slip into behaviors that can't ever produce recovery. Do you understandhow this works?

What is to blame for how you feel?

When you feel anxious, you start searching for blame.

You blame your job, your marriage, a bereavement, stress, your parents... infact anything and anyone but the true cause.

You then feel victimized and weak.

IF you decide to go for psychotherapy, the practitioner will focus on blame, bringing up past experiences, analyzing them.

    This isnt productive.

I wish I had a penny for every session my clients have wasted inpsychotherapy; I have never in 14 years, had a positive CURATIVE outcomereported.

The difference between anxiety sufferers who recover quickly and those whodon't is that those who recover quickly understand that giving blame toexternal influences is futile and that they are 'masters of their own destiny'.

My primary role is to show sufferers that they canquickly take back that control and 'ownership' of their

situation and by doing this, get immediate relief fromtheir symptoms.

    Yes, I said immediate!

Some clients find it hard to accept that they are in control and use certain keyphrases designed to undermine their 'ownership' of their situation... negativewords like won't and can't and say "I have tried but ..."

Using words like these allows your subconscious mind the opportunity to

present a multitude of objections which reinforce them and immediately

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    15/72

constructs a 'road block' which stops you from using your intellect to 'problemsolve'.

You immediately dis-empower the options that are open to you when you usenegative, defeatist language like this.

I believe that 'can't' is never an option until you try and using the word 'try' is

a way to prepare yourself for failure.Successful people never use the word tried do they?

    Why?

    Because they succeeded!

Failure should be a concept that no one ever focuses on, even when it seemsthat failure has 'happened'... why?

Because 'failure' presents you with an opportunity for a fresh start... anotherattempt!

Kids of seven years do TLM without any problems, so I KNOW you can.

15 year old Kyle was cured by us on the TVseries Goks Teens

Thanks to everyone at the Linden method, I can do things on my own. I

feel like a new person, I hope other people in my situation can benefit ans

get out of their bad situation and end up in a great one. All you need to do

is do what the people at the Linden method say. They have the answers!

    Take care everyone.

    Kyle Vanes

So, if you focus on the final, positive outcomes and use positive words like'when I have...' and 'I have succeeded in...' instead of 'I tried...' because whenyou use negative words, you prepare your brain to discover a way to fail!

You may feel that you don't behave in this way but if you are at the mercy ofyour anxiety and feel 'helpless' to find a way out, you are! Just for a moment,

try to imagine that you are 100% in control. What would you be saying now?"What can I do to..?" "How can I..?" You would be asking questions designedto set you up for solutions wouldn't you?

You are now preparing yourself for recovery, BUT, more than that, you arelearning a vital life skill which can be applied to anything you want to achieve inlife!

By taking on board these positive thoughts, you focus your mind on what youwant, rather than what you don't want!

By doing this you allow your brain to focus on problem solving to make positivethings happen!

    3Scientific Research & Our Science

I believe it is vital, if you are to benefit from the research in this book, for you tohave faith in our science, experience and knowledge.

This chapter explains why our technique is so effective and highlights the

research carried out by international leaders in the field of ResearchPsychology. Coupled with these conclusive scientific findings, myself and mystaff are on the front line, talking to tens of thousands of sufferers every year, gathering data about their experiences, their symptoms and their recoveries sothat YOU can benefit.

(A revolution in neuroscience: reprogramming the subconscious mind)

Science has focused on brain function more than any other aspect of humanlife for centuries and we would be lying if we claimed to understand theintricacies of how the brain works; some things we understand, others we don'thave any clue about.

The brain is a bundle of physical wiring and plumbing. It consists of anincredible number of wiring looms which are pruned away and added to inorder to store or render obsolete memories, behaviors and learning. Thephysical size of our heads means that physical neural pathways of learningcannot be infinite so the brain makes a decision which to keep and which toerase, otherwise your head would have to be the size of a house, which

wouldnt be practical and wouldnt look nice either. We are the product of our environments and every second we are alivecreates constant and infinite physical changes to occur in our minds. Neuralpathways are built and pruned as our life experiences grow.

Subconscious decisions are made whether to retain or discard learning wedon't even have to become involved consciously with this decision makingprocess, it all happens outside of our consciousness, deep within our brains.

We presume that we are totally in control with every aspect of our lives andbodies, but, the truth is that we are not.

Sure, we can decide what we do and where we go, but we are never incommand of what happens 'behind the scenes' in the subconscious mind

    but we can be!

Your anxiety disorder has been caused by an initial catalyst which providedyou with a 'fight or flight' response and this was consciously evident you mayremember it.

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    18/72

Once you made the conscious connection between this anxious reaction andyour perception of fear and danger from this point on, your subconsciousmind started doing all the decision making for you.

Your subconscious mind decided to rewire your brain to create a connectionbetween your high anxiety and your perception of that behavior and once youreacted with fear of the fear, neural pathways began 'knitting' new behaviors

into your subconscious mind automatic behaviors of fear.

This behavior is called Operant Conditioning, a process discovered andstudied by Burrhus Frederic Skinner.

Skinner was an American psychologist who pioneered research andadvocated behaviorism, which concentrates on understanding how behavior isthe manifestation of environmental history with regard to the experience ofconsequences.

In a nutshell, Skinner showed how thoughts reinforced by action would 'etch'that behavior into the mind as neural pathways of memory and habit areconstructed.

    We all learn by repetition.

Look back to when you learned to drive, read, write, play the piano etc. Youdid so by creating a constant process of learning. Had you received a drivinglesson once every six months, your brain would have made the decision soonafter lesson one that, because you hadnt repeated the driving habit, it wasnt

behavior you needed to retain, so it would prune those neural pathways oflearning.

The next time you had a lesson, you would need to re-learn those behaviorsagain.

You learn to drive by having a lesson and practicing with short intervals inbetween, which sends a clear message to your subconscious mind This islearning you need to retain because it is something I am going to be doingregularly, so it must be important.

Now think about how, through the cycle of fear you experience, you havePRACTICED being anxious!

But, there is a slight difference.

The emotion of fear that causes anxiety, is adaptable.

What do I mean by this?

As we move through life, from one environment to another, we move between

safe and not so safe environments. One minute we could be curled up in bed,the next in war torn Afghanistan.

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    19/72

Our anxiety levels adjust to be appropriate in each location and when wemove from a threatening place back to a none-threatening place our anxietylevels SHOULD drop.

But, when you develop an anxiety condition, the level doesnt drop becauseinstead of your mind reading your environment and finding a threat, it readsyour anxiety symptoms your fear is perpetuated by the symptoms of your

    fear.

    Can this be stopped?

    Oh yes and quickly!

What is the Amygdala and what does it have to do with YOUR anxiety?

The Amygdalae are actually a pair of organs in the brain. They perform anintegral role in the production, processing and storage of emotional reactions.

I liken the Amygdala to the body's anxiety thermostat.

Thermostats typically control temperature, but the Amygdalae, regulate the emotion ofanxiety.

When confronted with something whichcould represent a danger, the sensoryorgans (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin) sendnerve impulses to the Amygdalae in order to

have it make a split second decision as towhether the anxiety reaction, often calledthe 'fight or flight response' would beappropriate. It is like a risk assessment ofyour environment.

For example, as you drive down the road, adog runs out in front of you and you go into fight or flight. Your eyes see thedog, your amygdalae activate a response, your foot hits the brake, the dogruns off and anxiety levels fall. All this time, your mind is sending out riskassessments searching your environment for risk and reacting appropriatelyto that risk.

Once the decision is made to react with anxiety, a surge of adrenalin causes araft of physiological changes within the body and mind, which prepares us foreither fighting or fleeing from the danger present.

As I explained previously, in humans, the amygdalae perform primary roles inthe formation and storage of memories associated with emotional events.

Research indicates that, during fear conditioning, sensory stimuli reach theamygdalae, where they form associations with memories of the stimuli. The

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    20/72

association between the anxious catalyst and the anxiety reaction causes thememory to become fixed in the brain.

Experiments have shown that administration of stress hormones to miceimmediately after they learn something enhances their retention of thatbehavior when they are tested two days later.

This means that if you experience an event and react with anxiety, thatconnection becomes ingrained into the mind much more effectivelythis is what causes an anxiety disorder.

The amygdalae, especially the basolateral nuclei, are involved in mediating theeffects of emotional arousal on the strength of the memory for the event, asshown by many laboratories including that of James McGaugh.

James L. McGaugh, Ph.D., is an American neurobiologist working in the fieldof learning and memory. He is currently a professor at the University of

    California, Irvine.

McGaughs laboratories have trained animals on a variety of learning tasksand found that drugs injected into the amygdala after training affect theanimals' subsequent retention of the task.

These tasks include basic classical conditioning tasks such as inhibitoryavoidance, where a rat learns to associate a mild foot-shock with a particularcompartment of an apparatus, and more complex tasks such as spatial orcued water maze, where a rat learns to swim to a platform to escape the

    water.

If a drug that activates the amygdalae is injected into the amygdalae, theanimals had better memory for the training in the task. If a drug thatdeactivates the amygdalae is injected, the animals had impaired memory forthe task.

So, now you will understand that the Amygdalae play a vital role in theformation and perpetuation of anxiety conditions.

That being the case, we can say that by changing the reaction of theAmygdalae in anxiety disorder, we can eliminate the inappropriate anxiousreaction.

The Amygdalae only respond to sensory input, which means that any cureMUST, without question, de-program the anxious response in the Amygdalaeand replace it with a more appropriate response by reprogramming thatresponse through behavior.

So reversing the process, which causes the formation of an anxiety disorder inthe Amygdalae, will also render obsolete and destroy the stored, anxiousresponse.

    It will CURE YOU!

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    21/72

But how can this be done effectively?

    How?

In the EXACT same way that your anxiety condition was 'learned' in the firstplace.

Through a constantly executed group of simple rules, the sensory organs canbe manipulated to send messages to the Amygdalae, which remove theanxious reaction completely.

Which FORCE the amygdalae to believe that you are safe. This causes theamygdalae to turn down your anxiety level to normal. Fast!

THIS IS THE CURE FOR ANXIETY DISORDER

Let's look at other techniques for anxiety management/elimination andcompare them with this scientifically proven method.

Therapy Therapy exposes the original catalyst for the anxiety as the 'cause'and discusses ways to address that event through talking about it. This onlyserves to reinforce the anxious habit in the Amygdala by consciously'reminding' the subconscious mind that it is anxious and by making the initialcatalyst constantly conscious. Ludicrous that anyone could ever think thiswould be productive

Medication medication is chemical. Chemical changes which enter via thebloodstream or short lived, untargeted and inappropriate. How can medicationreach the specific neural pathways in the brain and amygdala, selecting themamongst billions of others accurately and somehow, presumably with the helpof a miracle, eliminate those and only those behaviors? Describing this as apossibility is ludicrous, I am sure you will agree.

    The solution

Direct Amygdala reprogramming as explained above. Targets theAmygdalae directly. Reverses the formation of the anxiety response andreplaces the inappropriate anxious response with appropriate responses topermanently eliminate anxiety, panic, phobias and obsessive behaviors and allof the physical and psychological manifestations of those conditions.

Now, transpose this same level of anxious response into your currentlife.

You have high levels of anxiety where NO REAL threat is present! But the'problem solving' 'scenario building' continues... it has to; it is part of the flightor fight mechanism!

But, now there is no problem to be solved so these 'what if' thought processeswork on the issues presented to it in your daily life, so it asks questions like:

    * What if there is something 'wrong' with me the medics are 'missing'?

    * What if I have a serious disease?

    * What if I lose consciousness?

    * What if I go mad?

    * What if I die?* What if something happens to a family member?

    * What if I harm someone I love?

    * What if I am gay?

*What if I do this inappropriate thing (aggressive, sexual) to that person?

    * What if I... blah, blah, blah...

Do you see where this is going?

Every thought you have had since you have been anxious, has been theproduct of inappropriate 'what if thoughts' building anxiety fueled scenarios inyour mind.

    Does this make sense?

    I have had clients say:

    * I sometimes think about killing my kids

    * I sometimes think I am gay

    * I sometimes think about killing myself

    * I sometimes think about incest with my mother/father

All these subconscious, anxious scenarios are produced by the Fight or Flightrespond, eagerly seeking out and questioning anything it can get its teethinto... creating 'what ifs' in your subconscious.

So, when you start to think that 'perhaps there is something else wrong withme'... tell yourself that those thought processes are simply the product of the

5Is anxiety disorder a mental illness?

    No, it certainly is NOT!

Anxiety disorder is NOT a mental illness, it is a behavioral condition, there is avery BIG difference.

The emotion of fear is an EMOTION not an illness.

Mental illnesses are clinical conditions which have a 'biological' basis (causedby chemical imbalance), anxiety disorders are caused by a 'resetting' of the'baseline' anxiety level; this happens through reinforcing the anxiety disorderby repetitive anxious behavior as previously explained.

There is NO other cause for anxiety disorders, FACT!

All of the symptoms you experience are caused by mal-adjusted reactions inthe brain causing your mind and body to react with an inappropriate level ofanxiety.

Doctors pigeon-hole their patients by naming their conditions and, becausethere is no pigeon-hole for anxiety as such, they label their patients as'mentally ill', 'neurotic' or as 'hypochondriacs' - They are wrong!

TRUE mental illness is very specific and can't be treated through behavioraltreatments alone - they require medicinal treatments also.

Anxiety disorder does not require any medicinal intervention, which is whypsychologists have been treating anxiety disorders with psychotherapy fordecades; it just falls short of providing a complete solution.

So, if anxiety disorder isn't a mental illness, what can bedone to correct it?

The Linden Method addresses that issue directly, tackling the problem at theroot cause, in the exact place where the anxious decisions are made. This is

done without medicine, without medical treatment and without long-windedtherapy programs. The Linden Method is so simple to understand andimplement and has already treated tens of thousands of people in the last 2years alone (this is when we introduced the latest version of the LindenMethod.)

Sarah Coates, my friend and in-house psychologist, left her job as apsychologist after working with me to cure her anxiety disorder completelyafter just a few weeks. She too had been categorized as having a mentalillness and was sure that it was wrong.

    7How The Linden Method Works

I have had so many people call or write to ask me exactly how The LindenMethod works, that I have decided to explain just why what we do at TheLinden Centers is different.

John Broadus Watson was an American Psychologist who established thePsychological School of Behaviorism. Watson believed that he could taketwelve healthy infants and by applying behavioral changes, could 'design'people to be how he wanted them to be.

Watson stated that emotions such as fear could be conditioned usingbehavioral techniques. He took a small child (11 months) called 'Little Albert'and conditioned him to become fearful of random objects: a rabbit, a dog and(believe it or not) some wool! Watson presented these objects and at the same

time, made a loud noise. The experiment worked and Little Albert became conditioned to respond withfear when presented with the objects alone. He had conditioned anxiety andthis sent shockwaves through the psychological community that had, untilthen, believed that fear, was pre-programd in the subconscious (SigmundFreud).

As unethical as this experiment was, it proved that fear responses could beraised by fear conditioning and that anxiety disorders can be created and

eliminated given the correct treatment.Around the same time, another behavioral psychologist was doing similar workelsewhere in the US.

Burrhus Frederic Skinner was an American psychologist who pioneeredresearch and advocated behaviorism which concentrates on understandinghow behaviour is the manifestation of environmental history with regard to theexperience of consequences.

Skinner also proposed the use of behaviour modification, much like Watson,he believed that a person could have their experience of life modified bybehaviors. Skinner developed the theories behind operant conditioning as away of engineering society, happiness and people's experiences of their lives.

Skinner believed that any experience backed up by a consequence wouldbecome imprinted on a person's psyche; the experience of anxiety disordersufferers would back this up; repeated stimulation of the Amygdala throughanxious behaviour would reinforce and imprint those behaviors as a form of'habit' into the subconscious mind.

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    30/72

Conversely, by using behavior modification as discovered and pioneered byWatson and Skinner, the reversal of the formation of 'anxious habit' is alsopossible.

In a nutshell what both of these eminent and incredibly forward thinkingscientists discovered is that it is very possible and actually very normal for anindividual to 'program' their subconscious minds.

The Linden Method provides anxiety sufferers with a 'roadmap' of how to dothis without going through long-winded psychotherapy and without using drugsthat never produce CURATIVE results.

What I show you is a 'mother nature given' process... a normal, expected, natural process that ALL recovered anxiety sufferers MUST have used tobecome anxiety free.

    Why do I emphasize must?

    I use this analogy:

I have a bucket and one day I put it down on a nail. It creates a hole. I see thewater running out of the bucket and I start looking for a solution to the problem.

I think about the solution and come up with:

Solution 1 - I make the water thicker so it doesn't run through the hole so fast.

Solution 2 I ignore the hole and keep running backwards and forwards

refilling the bucket.Solution 3 I put a piece of some material over the whole to hide the hole andtemporarily fix the problem but it keeps breaking through, so you keepreplacing it.

Solution 4 I mend the bucket by replacing the missing piece.

Which would be the best solution?

Well of course, it's number 4.

So, what does this have to do with The Linden Method?

Solution 1 is drug intervention it may provide temporary relief from some ofthe symptoms but it doesn't cure the problem.

Solution 2 is just allowing the anxiety to dominate your life modifying yourbehaviors and tiring you out.

Solution 3 is therapy during your session it makes sense and you may thinkyou have got it, but you leave and before long feel depleted and frustrated in

addition, you waste so much time and money blocking the hole!

    So, what is solution 4?

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    31/72

It's THE solution! It's the full fix! The total reversal and elimination of thebundle of learned behavior in the brain!

The difference between other Methods and The Linden Method is that TheLinden Method brings together a group of simple techniques that undermineand eliminate anxiety completely... it's not a quick fix, a cover up, a 'band aid' itactually undoes the formation of anxiety conditions completely!

    How does it do this?

It destroys anxious neural pathways and replaces them with non-anxious ones!Like removing a smoking habit or a nail biting habit or any learned behavior.Through seamless continuity of the Linden Method structure... which is simple, the brain 'reorganizes itself'...

...until a new structure has been created that behaves in a completely non-anxious way.

The brain requires communication and equilibrium between the twohemispheres and when communication is effective, the brain becomes morecreative, more organized, more able to learn effectively and the effect on yourlife can be incredible.

When you recover using The Linden Method, which outlines and guides youthrough the ONLY way to erase anxiety, your mind will respond... your anxiety, which has 'fine tuned' your brain during your anxiety disorder will fade awaybut your brain will divert all of the changes made to your subconscious mind to

make you more productive in every area of your life.

Making these changes creates an effect which scientists call 'whole brainthinking'.

Whole brain thinking enables creativity increases, intuition, increased ability tolearn, social skills and increased intelligence. My IQ went up by 5 points duringmy anxiety disorder!

Traditional anxiety elimination method such as CBT (never medication!), aresupposed to create these changes but the problem is that methods such asCBT are usually an event... a once or twice a week session at best. But talkingtherapies also involve a number of very 'counter-productive' devices whichserve only to remind the sufferer that they have high anxiety. A TRUE solutionwhich uses these scientific devices, like those discovered by Skinner andWatson, is a PROCESS and not just a once a week event!

Continuity of support is required to create and maintain these changes.

Continuity is the watchword. The clear, concise, simple and structured processoutlined in The Method is the ONLY way to achieve these changes effectivelyand our system has been designed to provide the targeted structure that is

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    32/72

vital to recovery. It is the ONLY method available in the world that is proven towork in absolutely every single case.

You may think that this sounds incredible. Yes, I agree, it is incredible. Youmay think it sounds fictitious. I agree it does but trust me this is science fact. There's no secret about how The Linden Method works... no secret at all.

    * I provide the solution to you in a set of structured rules.* I provide a group of supportive 'first aid' fixes to use during recovery.

    * I provide words of inspiration.

    * I provide information that offers answers to so many questions.

    * I provide structure.

    * I provide seamless support, reassurance and guidance.

And all of this combines to provide recovery.

I started this company because using The Linden Method totally changed mylife, but I'm sometimes at a loss as to how to adequately communicate justwhat I mean so that sufferers understand just how simple this is.

The memory of how I once was has now faded... in fact, other peopleremember that person far more effectively than I can.

I KNOW through experience of helping over 100,000 sufferers that you will beled to your own version of the same conclusion I reached with The LindenMethod.

I sleep very well at night, secure in the knowledge that the solution I provide iswater tight. I know this works and the thousands of letters of thanks I receiveare testament to that.

    8The Anxiety disorders

Before I go on to provide the benefit of our research and experience withregard to the anxiety disorders, I must first explain my understanding of theterms used by doctors and psychologists when diagnosing and categorizing

these conditions.I use the word disorder throughout this book for ease of use because it is whatpeople are used to hearing, but, in principle, I am 100% against the use of theword.

DISORDER The word disorder suggests illness. You are neither physicallyor mentally ill, despite how you are feeling. Describing your anxiety conditionas a disorder would mean that feeling hot, itching, sweating and othersubconsciously controlled, physical reactions are also disorders, the

suggestion is ludicrous!MENTAL ILLNESS You are not mentally ill! Mental illness is caused byphysical brain injury or impairment or chemical imbalance. If you have beendiagnosed with an anxiety disorder, you have neither! Anxiety conditions areNOT related to depression or other mental illnesses.

DEPRESSION Anxiety conditions are NOT depression, despite what youmay have heard or understood.

Just because your doctor may have prescribed you an antidepressantmedication, does not mean you have depression.

Doctors are very good at misrepresenting anxiety conditions and dressingthem up as mental illness, usually due to lack of knowledge and inexperience.Depression is a clinical condition caused by chemical imbalance and notrelated to anxiety conditions in any way whatsoever.

Anxiety and clinical depression cannot exist simultaneously that would belike being happy and sad simultaneously it cant happen!

The desperation experienced by anxiety sufferers is NOT depression; it is anoverwhelming feeling of hopelessness experienced by some anxiety sufferers. It is often referred to as low mood.

    9GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder)

A sophisticated combination of negative, anxious emotions, which includes

fear, worrying and fear of consequences. Anxiety is often accompanied byphysical symptoms or sensations like a racing heart, breathlessness, nausea, chest pains and sweating for example.

GAD is much more intense than normal anxiety levels which may beexperienced on a day-to-day basis. GAD is overwhelming and can dominateyour day with inappropriate and exaggerated worries and tension, even whenthere is nothing present to create fear.

Having GAD means that the sufferer is always anticipating a negative outcome

to everything they confront, sufferers often worry inappropriately about health, finances, relationships or their career.

The normal reaction to anxiety is to retreat or withdraw from 'normal' activities, this reinforces to the anxious mind that it is OK for our anxiety to dictate howwe feel, what we do and where we go to us and for us to modify our enjoymentof life to accommodate it... this is not acceptable.

GAD is an anxiety disorder because, as already stated, without an underlyinghigh level of anxiety, it cannot exist.

GAD sufferers have inappropriate and sometimes frightening or disturbingthoughts, sometimes violent or sexual in nature - these may sometimes involvepeople with whom they would never partake in such acts, even members oftheir own family. This was explained earlier as the what if thoughts associatedwith risk assessment; these, like all anxiety symptoms, will go as your anxietyis eliminated.

Very often, simply the thought of getting through the day provokes anxiety assoon as the sufferer wakes, which sets them up for a day filled with anxious

behaviors.Because adrenaline levels are artificially raised this leads to a resetting of ourbaseline anxiety level in the anxiety control center, we can experienceconstant general or generalized anxiety.

This means that the body is functioning at a much higher level of anxiety, causing a whole list of anxious feelings, emotions and sensations.

What are the symptoms of GAD?

The anxiety experienced is usually accompanied by physical anxietysymptoms such as headaches, tension, tiredness, aching muscles, difficultyswallowing, shaking, twitches, mood swings, sweats, and hot and cold flushes.

  • 7/28/2019 The Ultimate Guide to Anxiety Disorders

    35/72

GAD sufferers may often feel light-headed or out of breath.

They may also feel nauseated or have to go to the bathroom frequently.

Generalized anxiety is constant and can cause anxiety / panic attacks duringthe day and night.

Night time anxiety and panic attacks are especially disturbing and can oftenwake the sufferer from deep sleep feeling particularly frightened orexperiencing night frights which cause the sufferer to wake suddenlyexperiencing dramatic anxiety symptoms.

Night-time anxiety can be minimized with some practical steps which minimizethe impact of such things as blood sugar level fluctuations during sleep.

Individuals with GAD seem unable to relax, and they may startle more easilythan other people. They tend to have difficulty concentrating and often, theyhave trouble falling or staying asleep.

The sort of symptoms you can experience in generalized anxiety are generallymilder than those experienced during panic disorder.

Your stomach may churn, your heart race or beat slower or you may getpalpitations you may also feel sweaty or clammy, dizzy or shaky and a senseof general unrest.

You may just feel as if you have the Flu with shaky or weak legs andclamminess. You might get disturbing thoughts or feel depressed, this is

perfectly normal and will pass, it is purely a response to anxiety and must notbe mistaken for depression. Remember, these thoughts and feelings areharmless but unpleasant nonetheless.

This doesn't mean you should rush to your doctor to get anxiety medication - infact, quite the contrary!

Anxiety is often misdiagnosed as depression by physicians, who's 'knee jerk'reaction is to reach for the prescription pad. Not only is this premature, but alsoa wholly inappropriate treatment for an anxiety condition. Anxiety isn't caused

by a mental or physical illness and certainly not by a chemical imbalancewhich requires medicinal 'correction'... anxiety disorder is a behavioralcondition and can not be eliminated by chemical means.

GAD affects about 1 in 4 adults at some point in their life and about twice asmany women as men. Anxiety disorder can develop gradually or abruptly andcan begin at any time across the life-cycle, though the risk is highest betweenchildhood and middle age.

10Panic Disorder & Panic Attacks (anxiety attacks)

Panic disorder is one of the so-called anxiety disorders and is the result of anincreased level of anxiety which is caused by a change in the way theAmygdala, in the brain, responds to anxiety-provoking thoughts or situations.

When this process becomes disrupted, the sufferer develops feelings ofanxiety which may escalate into panic attacks or Panic disorder.

Panic Disorder has such diverse and sometimes extreme symptoms. BUT, thisis caused by the same internal mechanism in every single sufferer. The brainthinks it is behaving normally as it has become re-set at a higher than normallevel of anxiety due to a catalyst of some sort; the catalyst is unimportantactually, what is important, however, is that an internal switch, which activatesthe anxiety response in the brain has been 'adjusted' to a higher level of

anxiety and it is this that causes and perpetuates the Panic Disorder. As youknow, I don't like the term disorder, it suggests illness and anxiety isn't anillness, it's a natural device that can become disturbed.

Panic Disorder affects about 10 million adults in the US and the UK and istwice as common in women as in men. It most often begins during lateadolescence or early adulthood.

Not everyone who experiences panic attacks will develop panic disorder - forexample, many people have one attack but never have another. For those who

do have Panic Disorder, though, it's important to seek treatment. Untreated, the disorder can become very disabling indeed.

Many people with Panic Disorder visit the hospital emergency room repeatedlyor see a number of doctors before they obtain a correct diagnosis and may gofor years without learning that they have a real, treatable condition.

Regardless of how the anxiety affects you mentally or physically, the verysame internal mechanism is responsible, so the curative process is the samein every case regardless of age, race or gender. To eliminate Panic Disorder

permanently, this mechanism must be addressed and corrected.Panic Symptoms

People with panic disorder have feelings of terror that strike suddenly andrepeatedly with no warning. They can't predict when a panic attack will occur, and many develop intense anxiety between episodes, worrying when andwhere the next one will strike.

Most likely your heart will pound and you may feel sweaty, weak, faint, ordizzy. Your hands may tingle or feel numb, and you might feel flushed orchilled. You may have nausea, chest pain or smothering sensations, a senseof unreality, or fear of impending doom or loss of control. You may genuinely

    37/72

believe you're having a heart attack or losing your mind, or even on the vergeof death.

Panic attacks can occur at any time, even during sleep. An attack generallypeaks within 10 minutes, but some symptoms may last much longer.

    Panic Attack Symptoms Explained

First of all, the word 'symptom' is used by doctors to describe the effects ofillness... ANXIETY IS NOT AN ILLNESS... it's a behavioral condition. However, anxiety does produce some pretty scary SENSATIONS.

Yes, I said SENSATIONS because all of the feelings and thoughts youexperience are just that! They are the physical manifestations of high anxietyand NOTHING MORE!

True FEAR can only be present when there is something PRESENT to bescared of. If you have panic attack symptoms when there is nothing present tobe scared of... you are experiencing INAPPROPRIATE ANXIETY... thesensations of FEAR, BUT, NOT true fear!

Even any weird or anxious thoughts you experience are ALL the product of theanxiety response which creates 'what if' thoughts... thoughts designed to makeyou make sensible decisions quickly when REAL fear is present; but when noREAL fear is present, the thoughts work on presenting you with 'worst casescenarios' and some can be pretty weird and disturbing; these might includeaggressive thoughts or sexual thoughts... thoughts about things you KNOW

you'd never actually carry out. Disturbing but harmless and a recognized andcommon panic attacks symptom.

    Does this make sense?

I tell you this because I need you to understand that all the panic attackssymptoms, feelings, thoughts and sensations you experience are products ofthe anxious nerve signals your brain produces, not the signs of illness.. notphysical illness, not mental illness!

Symptoms of panic attacks are unpleasant, to say the least, BUT they arecompletely normal and harmless (no matter how inappropriate).

Not everyone experiences the same panic attack symptoms; we are alldifferent biologically and therefore react differently to each other as a responseto the same or similar stimuli.

The following list identifies the most common panic attack symptoms.Experiencing four or less of these panic attack symptoms identifies what iscalled a limited symptom attack.

    Common Panic Attack Symptoms

    * Rapid heart beat, pounding heart or palpitations

    * Sweating

    * Shaking visibly or inside

    * Choking sensations or lump in throat

    * Smothering or shortness of breath sensations

    * Chest pain or discomfort

    * Nausea, bloating, indigestion or abdominal discomfort

    * Dizziness or unsteadiness

    * Feeling light-headed

    * Derealisation (feeling unreal or dreamy)

    * Depersonalisation (feeling outside yourself or like you don't exist)

    * Fear of losing control or going crazy

    * Paresthesias (numbness or tingling sensations) in face, extremities, body

    * Chills or hot flushes

    * Skin losing color

    * Blushing or skin blotches

    * Urgently needing to urinate or defecate

    * Inappropriate/Disturbed thoughts

    * Muscle pain, especially in neck or shoulders

    ...and possibly many more!

Experiencing different or more panic attack symptoms to those listed above, does not mean that your condition is worse or different, or that you aresuffering from another un-diagnosed condition. Diagnosis of anxiety disorders

is very accurate. Some people have anxiety disorder but never suffer from panic attacksymptoms.

How are panic attack symptoms caused?

Panic attack symptoms are caused by a number of biological changes thatoccur during times of stress and anxiety.

The human body is very resilient, even in times of anxiety we are strong,

although we may not feel it. It's also very true that some people might bescared that their heart will stop, or give up, through the constant racing,

thumping or chest pain, this is simply not true; again these are very commonsymptoms of panic attacks.

Panic attacks happen when the body needs to burn up unused adrenalin. Itdoes so by activating a sudden elevation of anxiety this is perceived as apanic attack.

Ultimately, all of these symptoms have developed to assist you to take evasiveor direct action against a threat. The body has to become stronger, lighter andfaster and the changes made in every bodily system can produce strange andinvasive symptoms which are natural when anxiety is appropriate but not whenthey are inappropriate.

No one has ever come to any harm as a result of high anxiety or panic attacks!Consider how hard athletes have to work in order to give their hearts the kindof workout your heart receives through anxiety; athletes hearts do not give up,do they?

The heart is a muscle, raising the heart rate exercises it, making it fitter. Youwouldn't worry if your heart raced after running for the bus, so why worry aboutit when it happens during high anxiety. Panic attacks symptoms are harmless.

The downside of these panic attack symptoms is that your body will feel tiredand shaky after they subside. You may feel as if you have run a marathon.Feeling tired or achy is a normal side effect, if you are aware that it mayhappen, when it does, you will know what it is and it won't scare you as much!

Most anxious people complain of aching muscles and general fatigue, theseare very common symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety. Muscle tension cancause pain or sensations of tightness anywhere in the body; most common inanxiety are pains in the chest, neck and shoulders.

Tension in these places can be distressing; the tension in your chest maycause shortness of breath or rib pain, and it may make your chest or breaststender or numb. Pains in the muscular tissues of the neck and back can causethe blood vessels and nerves to become restricted; this can cause headachesor migraine but can also cause the head to feel tender or painful.

It is possible for your face or scalp to feel numb or dead, this can affectsensations around your eye, in your cheek, face and jaw and can even affectthe sensations in your mouth.

This is caused by muscular tension causing restriction around the nerves andblood vessels in my neck. When I first experienced this, I was very scared asare many of my clients. AGAIN, another symptom of panic attacks and anxietywhich causes the sufferer unnecessary worry but is completely harmless.Massaging the neck releases much of the tension and thus relieves the

sensations; this works for most people.

This tension can cause feelings of numbness in the arms (usually the left), andalso the legs. Don't be alarmed if this happens to you.

You must understand that the nervous system is found in every inch of yourbody. There are nerve endings literally everywhere, around every organ, muscle and over every square millimeter of your skin so the symptoms ofpanic attacks and anxiety can be experienced anywhere! Tension can be

responsible for many of the sensations experienced during anxiety.

Panic attack symptoms are EXACTLY what the name suggests, a symptom ofthe disorder not of another condition.

Can panic attack symptoms harm you?

No! Panic attacks symptoms have never harmed anyone. Although they feelhorrific and scary, panic attack symptoms are harmless and are simplyexaggerated experiences of normal bodily sensations and reactions. Of all the

people that I have spoken to about their own panic attack symptoms, none, including myself, ever came to any harm during the, literally thousands, ofpanic attacks we experienced.

Panic Disorder may lead to a pattern of avoidance of places or situationswhere panic attacks have occurred. For example, if a panic attack strikes whileyou're riding in an elevator, you may develop a phobia (fear) of elevators. Ifyou start avoiding them, that could affect your choice of a job or apartment andgreatly restrict other areas of your life for fear of a repeated attack.

Some people's lives become so restricted that they avoid normal, everydayactivities such as grocery shopping or driving. In some cases they becomecompletely housebound. Or, they may be able to confront a feared situationonly if accompanied by a spouse or other trusted person.

Sufferers avoid any situation in which they would feel helpless if a panic attackwere to occur. When people's lives become so restricted, as happens in aboutone-third of people with panic disorder, the condition is called Agoraphobia.Early treatment can often prevent agoraphobia.

    Panic Disorder Treatment

No, no more than we are mentally or physically ill when we have obsessionsand compulsions. OCD - pleasant, no. Illness, no. Curable, yes. With meds?NO!

So how do you cure OCD? I'll try and explain.

    What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

OCD is caused by the what if thoughts experienced in high anxiety becomingdirected at things in your environment which MAY represent a threat. When noREAL threat is present, your what of thoughts focus on health, tidiness, cleanliness, your family and other localized objects.

What if I do X to my family?

What if I dont wash my hands?

What if I dont turn the light on and off X times?

What if I dont check X?

All these thoughts are designed to analyze risk in order to take appropriateaction when REAL threat is present, but in high anxiety and OCD no REAL riskor threat is present.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder symptom, NOTa stand-alone condition.

    Why?

Because OCD never exists without underlying high anxiety; take away yourinappropriate anxiety and your obsessions will simply fade away. OCD isfueled by anxiety-driven 'what if' or 'catastrophic' thought processes which arestored like habit in the brain.

If you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), you may be plagued bypersistent, unwelcome thoughts or images, or by the urgent need to engage incertain rituals in order to stave off anxiety. These Obsessive CompulsiveDisorder rituals can be very fast to carry out, such as checking light switches

or making sure you have turned off the stove, but many require large quantitiesof time and concentration.

    As a sufferer of OCD:

You may be obsessed with germs or dirt, washing your hands, clothes, home or furniture repeatedly

You may be filled with doubt and feel the need to check things many timesover

You may have frequent thoughts of violence, and fear that you will harmpeople close to you

You may spend long periods touching things or counting

You may be pre-occupied by order or symmetry

you may have persistent thoughts of performing sexual acts that arerepugnant to you

You may be troubled by thoughts that oppose your religious beliefs

The disturbing thoughts or images are called obsessions, and the rituals thatare performed to try to prevent or get rid of them are called compulsions. If theObsessive Compulsive Disorder sufferer does not carry out the ritual that theirsubconscious mind wishes them to, the anxiety level can becomeoverwhelming. Panic attacks and all of the associated anxiety symptoms, thoughts and sensations can ensue - and it is this which forces the sufferer tobecome a slave to their compulsions and rituals in order to prevent an anxietyreaction.

Even non-anxious people recognize some of the symptoms of ObsessiveCompulsive Disorder. 'Checking' behavior is common in non-sufferers, butwhen this behavior becomes obsessive, the OCD sufferer can spend much oftheir day checking the gas, the light switches or the locks. Some OCDsufferers spend much of their day carrying out the rituals they have developedwhich can be very intrusive and destructive for both themselves and familymembers.

Most OCD sufferers realize that what they do makes no real sense, but the

fear of the consequences of NOT doing it forces them to continue. There aremany OCD sufferers who are so entrenched in their behaviors and routinesthat they seem oblivious to the fact that what they do is not what one wouldcall 'normal' behavior.

Who suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects over 8 million Americans andthis figure is echoed across the world. OCD affects men and women equallyand normally develops in younger people and children first. Approximately 1/3

of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder sufferers first experienced their symptomsas a child.

People with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder tend to avoid situations wherethere may be a chance of confronting their fears or obsessions. Avoidancetechniques support the anxious behavior and often phobias accompany theOCD behavior, such as agoraphobia or social phobia.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) sufferers find it very difficult tomaintain healthy relationships or to hold down a job because of the intrusive

and very visual nature of their conditions - often employers will find the visiblesymptoms difficult to work with and careers can be severely affected.

    12'Pure O'

Pure O is the obsessive thoughts experienced in obsessive compulsivedisorder but without any resultant compulsion to carry out any specific actionssuch as hand washing, ordering or word repetition. Pure O can often center

around obsessive thoughts of a sexual or aggressive nature. Can Pure O and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) be cured?

In a word... yes! Most definitely and most permanently.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), like Pure O is an Anxiety Disordersymptom, and can, therefore, be eliminated by addressing the subconsciousreaction which causes and perpetuates the anxiety which fuels it. This soundsdifficult, but it isn't.

There is an internal 'anxiety switch' which is activated by anxious stimuli and itis by controlling and altering this reaction that OCD and the anxiety that fuels itcan be permanently eliminated, very quickly and very permanently.

In over a decade of treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and PureO clients, we have never had one case where we have failed to undermineand remove the rituals and obsessions that they experience.

If you remove the anxiety which fuels OCD, the obsessions and compulsionsfade away quickly.

    How is agoraphobia caused?

Please understand this. I reiterate: agoraphobia is a symptom of an anxietydisorder. Without anxiety this phobia simply CAN'T exist! So, by eliminating theunderlying anxiety disorder, agoraphobia can be eliminated 100%.

Anxiety, panic, phobias and other anxiety disorder symptoms can be

eliminated 100% by addressing the root cause directly. The cause of all theseconditions is the amygdala which controls the anxiety reaction.

The Amygdala becomes 're-set' when life circumstances cause it to releaseanxious responses repeatedly; it LEARNS to become inappropriately anxious -through repetition. This is called Operant Conditioning.

When agoraphobia forms, the sufferer avoids the place where they felt mostanxious in order to prevent it happening again, but as the anxiety increasesduring the formation of an anxiety condition, they begin to experience anxiety

in a multitude of locations and subsequently avoid those locations. Beforelong, they have trained the amygdala to respond with high anxiety in mostlocations and their worlds become smaller and smaller until they becomehousebound.

So, by eliminating this reaction in The Amygdala, anxiety can be reducedquickly and efficiently, permanently eliminating your agoraphobia. This can andoften does, happen in a few days IF the correct process of anxiety eliminationis followed.

So, to recap and be clear its vital that you understand this:

When a person experiences high anxiety which causes symptoms in the body, the symptoms are perceived by the amygdala as a threat and if you are in thesupermarket when this threat becomes apparent, your amygdala will form aconnection in the brains circuitry that says supermarket = Anxiety. The nexttime you go to the supermarket, your brain will react with anxiety. It is thisconnection which causes agoraphobia.

    What agoraphobia treatments are available?

There are very few agoraphobia treatments available through accessible, general practice, most include talking therapies and medication which oftenhave very limited therapeutic affect; the proof stands to reason, if they worked,no one would still be suffering.

A true CURATIVE agoraphobia treatment is accessible, seamless, targetedand structured. It is possible to remove agoraphobia completely and eliminatethe underlying anxiety that causes it but this must be administered by qualifiedand experienced professionals with an understanding of the condition and a

proven structure which undermines and removes the high anxiety at itsSOURCE.

    14Social Anxiety Disorder

Social anxiety disorder involves overwhelming anxiety and excessive self-consciousness in everyday social situations.

People with social anxiety have a persistent, intense and sometimes chronic

fear of being watched and/or judged by other people and being embarrassedand/or humiliated by their actions. Their fear may be so severe that it interfereswith work or school and other everyday activities.

Many people with social anxiety disorder are worried by eating or writing infront of others and have a constant ongoing fear of public identification oranything that draws attention to them such as making speeches or reading outloud.

Whilst many people with social anxiety recognize that their fear of beingaround people may be excessive and unreasonable, they are unable tominimize or overcome it. They often worry for days or weeks in advance of adreaded situation or event and therefore prepare themselves for, what theybelieve to be, inevitable anxiety.

Social anxiety disorder can be limited to only one type of situation - such as afear of speaking in formal or informal situations, or eating, drinking, or writing infront of others, or, in its most severe form, may be so broad that a personexperiences symptoms almost anytime they are around other people.

Social Anxiety Disorder can be very debilitating - it may even keep people fromgoing to work or school on some days. Many people with social anxiety have ahard time making and keeping friends.

How common is Social Anxiety Disorder?

Very common indeed! In fact, it is our experience that most anxiety and panicsufferers show signs of social anxiety disorder too. Social anxiety disorder ismore common in young people as they mature and enter adult life.

There is also a strong correlation between social anxiety and agoraphobia andsufferers find that the action of avoiding social situations creates anagoraphobic reaction to those locations.

Who does Social Anxiety Disorder affect?

Social anxiety disorder can affect anyone of any age or sex. It is estimated thataround seven million Americans have social anxiety disorder and this numberis echoed around the world.

    What causes Social Anxiety Disorder?

The amygdala (the anxiety control center in the brain), is responsible for thesymptoms of social anxiety disorder.

When the amygdala becomes re-set to a higher 'baseline' level thanpreviously, inappropriate, anxiety, such as social anxiety disorder become

apparent. This process of learning is called operant conditioning.

Social anxiety disorder develops as a result of high anxiety and the amygdalaproducing what if thoughts as described earlier. These what if risk assessingthoughts analyse the sufferers environment and detect threat in the form ofthe people and situations around them which then causes more anxiety and soon.

What are the symptoms of Social Anxiety Disorder?

Social anxiety symptoms can be intense; they include panic attacks andphobias, agoraphobia and all of the physical and psychological thoughts andsensations associated with anxiety.

    15PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

DO NOT allow anyone to tell you that PTSD is a stand-alone condition, IT ISNOT.

PTSD is a SYMPTOM of an anxiety disorder.

    How do we know this?

Because in EVERY case where we have eliminated the underlying anxiety, thePTSD has been eliminated too! FACT!

As with all anxiety disorders, PTSD develops as a result of an experience orexperiences which cause the 'baseline' level of anxiety to rise in the Amygdala, the organ in the brain which regulates the anxiety level. The Amygdala 'learns'new behavior by repetition. This process is called Operant Conditioning.

PTSD is common after 'near death' experiences involving the sufferer where athreat to themselves or others occur.

Because PTSD is often associated with war or severe trauma, it is dealt withby medics in a way which separates it from the other anxiety conditions whichis wrong.

As with all anxiety disorders, PTSD can be treated and eliminated simply, easily and quickly using a targeted method which addresses the inappropriate

    reaction of The Amygdala.

    16Phobias

    Dentophobia and Iatrophobia

Dentophobia (a fear of dentists) and Iatrophobia (a fear of doctors) are twovery common phobias.

No one really enjoys going to the dentists, but for those who suffer withanxiety, panic attacks and the extremes of phobia when visiting doctors anddentists, the whole experience can be traumatic or non-existent for those whosimply won't go!

Avoiding doctors and dentists is acceptable unless you are in need of medicalor dental assistance. You can allow your teeth to drop out of your mouth, but ifan extreme dental emergency emerges, it becomes a necessity, rather than acosmetic issue.

Similarly, most people go through life with few serious medical issues but evenminor issues can escalate if ignored.

For those people who suffer with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety of medicalvisits is compounded. Those who only experience high anxiety when visitingdoctors or dentists are able to cope with the anxiety and be nurtured throughmost procedures with the help of a mild sedative or relaxation exercises forexample, however, panic disorder and agoraphobia sufferers often find itimpossible to leave home let alone get to the surgery! (Impossible? NO! Butthey are unwilling to go as a result of their fears.)

For those sufferers who have an anxiety disorder, it is vital that they addressthe root cause of their anxiety first which will then undermine the fears andanxiety they experience when visiting the dentist, doctor or any other anxietyprovoking situation.

Fear is normal, it is an appropriate reaction to a threat but when it becomesinappropriate and invasive, it is vital that something is done to remove theanxiety that fuels it.

No matter how your fears and phobias manifest in you, they are inappropriateand as such, can be reset back down to a more acceptable level.

    17School Phobia

What are the symptoms of School Phobia?

School Phobia (Didaskaleinophobia) is itself a symptom of anxiety disorder inchildhood. It is also known as separation anxiety, which is a childs (or adults

sometimes), inappropriate fear of leaving their parents, a person or place oftrust or home for example.

Most children find going to school exciting and enjoyable although of coursenearly all children have times when they don't want to go. This happenscommonly at ages where children are faced with tougher school activities orexams or may have fallen out with friends. All of this is a normal part ofgrowing up.

Children who develop school phobia, however, become terrified, trying everyavoidance tactic in order to stay at home.

Parents should be aware if their child regularly says that they are too sick to goto school, they could be doing so in order to avoid anxious feelings.
