It is reason enough to have a closer look at the first bottles of the new vintage, which will be uncorked for the first time at ProWein 2015. Trier, February 23, 2015 – Bischöfliche Weingüter in Trier has a good 95 hectares of property on the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer, which, in part, covers single vineyards with an international reputation. Many industry experts have closely followed how Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier and the team around the estate director Dr. Karsten Weyand have undergone a radical modernization process in the last years. The efforts are paying off, as Karsten Weyand highlights: “Not only the German but also the international trade media and wine experts have given us much praise and attention in the last few months, and we are pleased and encouraged to continue on our way. In particular, the winegrowing on the steep slopes requires a lot of perseverance and expertise, which our employees have notably demonstrated.” At the end of last year, Wine Enthusiast – the prestigious U.S. wine magazine – announced that the 2012 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese was one of the 100 best wines in the world and came in 62nd place. The British trade magazine The Drinks Business crowned the 2004 Kaseler Kehrnagel Riesling Eiswein with the title “Global Riesling Master 2014.” Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier was able to prevail in the comprehensive Riesling tasting of the British against the international competition and achieved the best overall result. In July 2014, at the Decanter World Wine Awards, three wines were awarded a silver medal (2012 Kaseler Kehrnagel Riesling Eiswein, 2012 Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett, and 2012 Ayler Kupp Riesling Spätlese); two others received a bronze medal (2010 Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Auslese and 2012 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese). In May, the long-established Harpers Wine & Spirit Trade Review chose the 2012 Dom Riesling feinherb among the top 50 German wines. In Germany, the experts, such as the journalist Stephan Pinkert, were full of praise for Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier, too. “A lot has been done here to significantly raise the qualities of the wine in all categories. Year” awards and recommends it as an estate that provides “more than the ordinary.” In the review by Gault & Millau – which is by far the most important German wine guide – the quality of the wines come first, even if it is about picturesque wine estates along the beautiful landscapes, such as the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer. In November 2014, the Rheinische Post certified that an assortment of Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer as being able to produce “distinctive wines with good acidity, but also great noble sweet wines.” The upward trend is reflected, if nothing else, in the quality of the wines It especially shows in the quality of the wines that the operation was successfully modernized in recent years. The first samples will be exclusively shown to you at this year’s ProWein from March 15 to 17, 2015, in Düsseldorf (Hall 13, Stand C59). After the successful 2011, 2012, and 2013 vintages – which continuous sales were able to prove – the 2014 wines promise to be good and balanced wines, and full of character. The elaborate portfolio includes an unrivaled range of wines from Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier and Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium, the latter of which has been managed by Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier since 2004 and will show its new wines for the first time at the fair. The portfolio includes a number of well-known village and single-vineyard wines in dry, off-dry, and fruity sweet.

About Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier and Weingut Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium

Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier farms about 95 hectares of vineyards. It goes back to the merger of three major, centuries-old wine estates and former founding members of today’s VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer (Grosser Ring) in 1966: Bischöfliches Konvikt, Bischöfliches Priesterseminar, and Hohe Domkirche. Since 2004, the 25-hectare Weingut Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium belongs to Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier, but is run as an independent property. Both wine estates have top vineyard sites on the Mosel, Saar, und Ruwer. The focus lies on over 90 percent Riesling. The grapes are pressed either at Scharzhof on the Saar or at Duisburger Hof on the Ruwer. The wines are matured in the heart of Trier in a vast vaulted cellar that goes back to Roman times.
