We give glory to the Lord for the wonderful opportunity of responding to His call in our lives. After three and half years from the day we were called to serve in Spain finally we are beginning this journey. It has not being an easy process. There were issues regarding with my doctoral studies, grieving after the death of our only child, and the serious financial undertake that a mission like this in a place like Europe would take. But finally the time has come and today we can say that we are at the beginning stage of a wonderful journey to the ancient land of Sepharad; Spain.

Our departure to Spain is scheduled for August 26th, 2016 contingent to have raised the necessary funds needed for ministry and living expenses. We are going to serve for an initial appointment of two years. Our initial responsibilities will include teaching and curriculum development at the Instituto Bíblico Juan Wesley in Madrid and the Canary Islands, developing various discipleship programs and church planting initiatives, and providing pastoral care at the Light and Life Church in Madrid. We are also praying for the possibility of planting a church among the “Romani Gitanos” or the Romani Gypsy people at the Andalucía Region at one point during our time in Spain.

Financial CostCurrently the initial ministry and living expenses are estimated in $45,000.00 a year ($90,000.00 for a two year period). We launched a fundraising campaign two weeks ago and our two goals are to have a group of partners supporting us with their prayers and finances for a period of two years and to be able to raise in offering and pledges the first $45,000.00 before July 1st, 2016.

Sepharad

Sepharad is the Hebrew name for Spain. Since the period of King Solomon, Jewish people settled at the Iberian Peninsula (Spain & Portugal). They prospered and even helped the Catholic King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to battle the Moors who controlled most of Spain. However, after the fall of Granada, the Spanish King and Queen forced the Jewish people to either convert to Roman Catholicism or leave Spain. Today, the Jewish heritage still seeing in cities like Cordoba, Jaén, Seville, Granada, Barcelona, and Toledo, among many others.

The Prophet Obadiah prophesied that the exiled from Jerusalem in Sepharad shall possess the cities of the Negev (Obadiah 1:20).

Today, the government of Spain has apologized to the Jewish community for their actions against them for centuries. At the same time many of the Jewish people understand that the time to make Aliyah to Israel and fulfill Obadiah prophesy has come. Nonetheless, in spite of the historic facts described above, the reality that Spain remains known as Sepharad is indisputable.
