From Pastor Lauer
Okay: so I’m getting used to the idea that Summer is over and Fall is heavy upon us. It’s hard to deny this when the leaves have gone through their annual cycle, when the clocks are about to be turned back (November 5th) and the heat has been turned on. This is the season when growth goes into “standby” (I haven’t mowed the lawn in some time now). It’s the season for picking up and putting away and buckling down for another Winter.
Yet even though nature has gone into hibernation, it is still the season for growth. It’s always the season for growth; but especially now when the Summer distractions are gone and we can settle into a pattern of feeding our souls for growing in the faith, hope, and love of our Savior. Even the long summer season of the Church called Pentecost is now coming to a close. The first Sunday in November is the Day of All Saints when we celebrate all those who have completed their growth, have finished their race, and have been taken-in like a harvest for heaven. We will rejoice in Thanksgiving (November 23) for another year of God’s bountiful gifts. The Church Year will officially close on November 26th when we focus upon the eventual Fulfillment of all God’s promises.
And then it begins again with four Sundays and three Wednesdays in Advent in repentant yet joyful anticipation of our Father’s Son who comes to save us. He is “Emmanuel” which means “God is with us!” The salvation He brings is our salvation. The Promise He gives is a promise for us and for our children. While the earth sleeps through Winter, it is the season for the people of God to grow and blossom in faith, hope, and love.
Don’t fall asleep for the Winter. It’s time to wake up and smell the sweet Spring of Faith. I am in Christ’s service and yours:
- Pastor Paul Lauer.

From Pastor Matheny
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
What does this mean? The good and gracious will of God is done
even without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may be
done among us also.
How is God’s will done? God’s will is done when He breaks and
hinders every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our
sinful nature, which do not want us to hallow God’s name or let
His kingdom come; and when He strengthens and keeps us firm in
His Word and faith until we die. This is His good and gracious
will.
With these words Dr. Luther helps us to understand what
“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” means. He shows us,
once again, that God’s will being done does not depend on our
prayer, but that when we pray these words we are praying that
God’s will is done among us, in our midst.
And just what is God’s will exactly? We tend to think of
God’s will as a narrow path that we must be careful to walk along.
We wonder which of those good houses God “wills” us to buy,
which one of those good schools God “wills” us to go to, and
which one of those lovely people God “wills” us to marry. When
we think this way we can get nervous that if we make the wrong
choice we will be going against God, and that everything will end
in calamity.
But Dr. Luther’s explanation breaks that way of thinking.
He says instead that God’s will is quite simply to hinder evil in the
world (weather it comes from Satan, the world, or our own
sinfulness) and to promote good by strengthening and keeping His
people in His Word.
This means that each and every one of our decisions (as
long as it is in accord with God’s Word) is blessed to be within
God’s will. Whatever house, spouse, or school we choose, God
will bless us. What a blessing it is to know that God’s will is not
only done, but done among us!

Whereas Our Savior’s has been blessed for many years with a
wonderful place for worship which includes a pipe organ that has served
for countless services for more than 60 years; and
Whereas we desire to continue using our pipe organ as a distinctive
element of worship for many years to come; and
Whereas our pipe organ is in need of significant repairs and cannot
presently be used to its fullest capacity and could also benefit from
upgrades in technology for better performance, reliability, and
longevity; there be it
Resolved that the congregation accept the bid of $144,200 from
Grandall & Engen LLC, Organ Builders, for the repair and refurbishing
of our pipe organ to be completed in mid 2019; and be it further
Resolved that the Board of Trustees plan for and carry out necessary
changes to the balcony area for acoustic improvements in an amount of
no more than $26,000 and in consultation with the organ builders and
other contractors during the same period as the organ is removed for
repairs and refurbishing; and be it finally
Resolved that the congregation also authorize the Board of Trustees up to $10,000 in contingency spending for this complete project.
MOTION was made and SECONDED to approve Resolution 17:003 as
written. MOTION CARRIED. This Resolution was approved by a

21
b) Resolution 17.004: To Form a Capital Fund Raising Committee
for the 2019 Organ Repair and Refurbishing Project.
Whereas the congregation in this Voters’ Assembly as accepted the bid
of $144,200 for the repair and refurbishing of our pipe organ starting in
January, 2019, has approved up to $26,000 for acoustic improvements to
the balcony in conjunction with this project, and has authorized a
$10,000 contingency for this project; therefore be it
Resolved that the Church Council form and activate a committee with
the purpose of raising $180,200 by Easter, 2019.
MOTION was made and SECONDED to approve Resolution 17:004 as
written. MOTION CARRIED. This Resolution was approved by a

plan for and make changes in the balcony area for acoustic
improvements; and
Whereas the Voters’ Assembly has requested that the Church Council
form and activate a capital fund raising program with the goal of raising
$180,200 by Easter of 2019; and
Whereas the Board of Endowment of the congregation has
recommended that $50,000 from the General Fund Endowment be
pledged to this capital fund raising campaign in a dollar-for-dollar
match on the first $50,000 raised; therefore be it
Resolved that the congregation in this Voters’ Assembly authorize this
expense from the principle and accumulated interest of the General
Fund Endowment in accordance with the Endowment Constitution and
Bylaws.
MOTION was made and SECONDED to approve Resolution 17:004 as
written. MOTION CARRIED. This Resolution was approved by a
unanimous vote
d) Resolution 17.006: To Designate Pastoral and Lay Delegates for
the 2017 Circuit Forum and 2018 District Convention.
Whereas the triennial convention of the Minnesota South District of the
Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is scheduled for June 21-23, 2018,
which requires the reporting of each congregation’s voting delegates in
October of 2017, and the holding of Circuit Forums by the end of 2017;
and
22
Whereas it is customary for new Pastors serving as Associates to be
given the opportunity to participate as a Voting Pastoral Delegate in
their District Convention at the earliest opportunity; and
Whereas Mr. Mel Hendrickson has served our congregation faithfully
as our lay delegate in the past and has volunteered to do so again;
therefore be it
Resolved that Pastor Adam Matheny be designated as the Voting
Pastoral Delegate of our congregation (Pastor Lauer as an Advisory

From the Stewardship Committee Our Father in heaven has claimed us as His own. By the shedding of His Son’s blood, by the His death for our sins and His resurrection for our justification, God the Father has received us back into His family. By water combined with His Word, promise, and name, the Holy Spirit has taken up residence in us. We belong to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is in us, and we are in Him. And being in Him, all things are ours. In Him, we are richly and abundantly blessed. Our true treasure and wealth is that we belong to the most holy Trinity and everything that is His belongs also to us: righteousness, peace, eternal life. Even our temporal treasures are gifts from His fatherly divine goodness and mercy. We receive our treasures from Him, and thus, as (good stewards of His varied grace,) (1 Peter 4:10) we manage them in such a way that they may be returned to Him. We bring them to Him, hallowed through prayers of thanksgiving and God’s holy Word, as an offering. Thus, all our possessions, as gifts from God, are also offerings to Him, from which we eat to nourish our bodies, share with our family, neighbors, and fellow Christians, with the poor and even our enemies, as holy things given by the holy God. His temporal gifts are blessings to and for us, and bring blessing upon us even as they are pressed into His service for His kingdom and the souls that receive them. Thus we place all that we have into God’s hands, and He never fails to remember us and pours out the fullness of His promises upon us. We give thanks for all that He has done, is doing, and will continue to do. We give thanks by not taking for ourselves, but giving to all even as our heavenly Father has given to us. As we prepare for the celebrations of Thanksgiving, may we all give thanks continually for all that we are and all that we have because of God’s providential care. And may we be all the more diligent in bringing everything that we have received from God to Him, so that He may bless it and employ it for the good of all — even for us. “For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance” (Matthew 13:12).
