The Word of GodWhy do I come up with

a way to compel or encourage you to read

through the entire bible or New Testament

every year?

Page 2: The Word Of God

The Word of God

I am of the firm belief it is essential for spiritual

well being and keeping Satan and his temptations

at bay.

Page 3: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThis morning I hope to give you proof of this in what God Himself says

in His Word. Let’s begin with a passage we all

have heard many times

Page 4: The Word Of God

The Word of Godand probably know by

heart. It is in The Apostle Paul’s second

letter to Timothy.

Page 5: The Word Of God

The Word of God2 Timothy 3:16 NET Every

scripture is inspired by God and useful for

teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for

training in righteousness,

Page 6: The Word Of God

The Word of God17 that the person

dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for

every good work.

Page 7: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThose who would learn the

things of God, and be assured of them, must know the Holy Scriptures, for they are the Divine revelation.

Page 8: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThe age of children is the

age to learn; and those who would get true

learning, must get it out of the Scriptures.

Page 9: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThey must not lie by us

neglected, seldom or never looked into. The Bible is a sure

guide to eternal life. The prophets and apostles did not

speak from themselves,

Page 10: The Word Of God

The Word of Godbut delivered what they

received of God. 2 Peter 1:19 NET Moreover, we possess the prophetic word

as an altogether reliable thing.

Page 11: The Word Of God

The Word of GodYou do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in

your hearts.

Page 12: The Word Of God

The Word of God20 Above all, you do well if

you recognize this: No prophecy of scripture

ever comes about by the prophet's own imagination,

Page 13: The Word Of God

The Word of God21 for no prophecy was

ever borne of human impulse; rather, men carried along by the

Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Page 14: The Word Of God

The Word of GodIt is profitable for all

purposes of the Christian life. It is of use to all, for

all need to be taught, corrected, and reproved.

Page 15: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThere is something in the

Scriptures suitable for every case. Oh that we may love our Bibles more, and keep

closer to them!

Page 16: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThen shall we find benefit,

and at last gain the happiness therein promised

by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the main

subject of both Testaments.

Page 17: The Word Of God

The Word of God We best oppose

error by promoting a solid knowledge

of the word of truth; and the greatest

kindness we can do to children, is to make them early to know the Bible.

(Matthew Henry Concise Commentary)

Page 18: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThe prophet

Jeremiah gives us a hint

of the power in The Word of

God.

Page 19: The Word Of God

The Word of GodJeremiah 23:29 My message is

like a fire that purges dross! It is like a

hammer that breaks a rock in pieces! I, the LORD, so affirm it!

Page 20: The Word Of God

The Word of GodAs God taught us the

power of His Word through Jeremiah He

again teaches us through the writer of Hebrews.

Page 21: The Word Of God

The Word of GodHebrews 4:12 NET For the word

of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword,

piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow;

Page 22: The Word Of God

The Word of Godit is able to judge the desires and thoughts of

the heart.

Can we neglect something this POWERFUL?? Let me explain it this way.

Page 23: The Word Of God

The Word of GodWhen I was flight

instructing I taught many people to operate small, single engine airplanes

safely.

Page 24: The Word Of God

The Word of GodAfter completing the

Government required and necessary training these

new pilots were adequately & reasonably qualified to

fly their family on a trip or vacation.

Page 25: The Word Of God

The Word of GodWhat if the new pilot

needs a six place airplane because five people

including himself are going on this trip?

Page 26: The Word Of God

The Word of GodI cannot think of a modern

six place airplane that is not high performance &

complex.

Page 27: The Word Of God

The Word of GodAll this means is the

aircraft has a more powerful engine and is

thus “high performance,” and is equipped with a

variable speed propeller,

Page 28: The Word Of God

The Word of Godmaybe retractable landing

gear and/or cowl flaps, hence it is “complex.”

Page 29: The Word Of God

The Word of GodNow this new pilot needs additional training and a notation by his instructor in his log book verifying

he has received such.

Page 30: The Word Of God

The Word of God Let’s consider the consequences if he

neglects the additional training. He taxies out and takes off as if he

were in the trainer aircraft.

Page 31: The Word Of God

The Word of GodProblem one, the engine is

overheating because he didn’t open the cowl

flaps. Cowl flaps allow air to flow through the engine compartment

better to cool the engine.

Page 32: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThey are to be open when

taxing, taking off and climbing. Problem two, he is only looking at the engine RPM gauge for

setting his power.

Page 33: The Word Of God

The Word of GodIn reality he is doing bad

things to the engine because the propeller is

not fixed pitch.

Page 34: The Word Of God

The Word of GodIt is variable pitched allowing the pilot to

change the pitch of the propeller in order to let the engine work more

efficiently.

Page 35: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThink of it as a standard

transmission in a car. What happens if you never shift out of first

gear while trying to drive highway speeds?

Page 36: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThe pilot not only needs

to look at his engine RPM gauge but also his manifold pressure gauge so the propeller can be

set correctly,

Page 37: The Word Of God

The Word of Godhence not over working or

over heating the engine. Problem three, the pilot

does not know the landing gear must be

retracted before reaching cruising speed.

Page 38: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThere is a speed limit for

having the landing gear extended. The common checklist procedure is when a positive rate of

climb is indicated

Page 39: The Word Of God

The Word of Godon the gauge after lift off and there is no possibility

of putting the aircraft back down on the runway due to an

emergency, the landing gear is to be retracted.

Page 40: The Word Of God

The Word of GodSo here we have, because

of neglecting the training, the aircraft

engine is overheating and over worked.

Page 41: The Word Of God

The Word of GodThe engine is most likely

going to overheat and fail. A crash could be imminent and death could be the result.

Page 42: The Word Of God

The Word of GodDamage could have been done to the landing gear

because the extended landing gear speed was

exceeded.

Page 43: The Word Of God

The Word of GodIf the pilot is lucky

enough to make it to an airport, when he lands his landing gear could

fail due to neglecting the proper procedures.

Page 44: The Word Of God

The Word of Godand death could be the result in this case also. We won’t even think

about a pilot neglecting training before

Page 45: The Word Of God

The Word of Godattempting to operate a

multi-engine, turbine powered or pressurized

aircraft.

Page 46: The Word Of God

The Word of GodDo you see the

comparison? God’s Word contains

immeasurable power. How are we to survive

ignoring its training

Page 47: The Word Of God

The Word of Godwhen we read novels,

magazines or study only what pertains to our

vocation? It’s unthinkable!! And

eternal death could be the result.

Page 48: The Word Of God

The Word of GodBy being intimately

familiar with The Word of God we have access

to eternal life.

Page 49: The Word Of God

The Word of GodJohn 6:63 NET The Spirit is the

one who gives life; human nature is of no help! The words that I have spoken to you are

spirit and are life.

Page 50: The Word Of God

The Word of GodIn the longest psalm God,

through the psalmist, reinforces how important

The Word of God is.

Page 51: The Word Of God

The Word of GodPsalms 119:9 NET

How can a young person maintain a pure life?

By guarding it according to your instructions!

Page 52: The Word Of God

The Word of God10

With all my heart

I seek you.

Do not allow me to stray from your commands!

Page 53: The Word Of God

The Word of God11

In my heartI store up your words,

so I might not sinagainst you.

Page 54: The Word Of God

The Word of God12

You deserve praise,O LORD!

Teach me your statutes!

Page 55: The Word Of God

The Word of God13

With my lips

I proclaim

all the regulations

you have revealed.

Page 56: The Word Of God

The Word of God14

I rejoice in the lifestyle prescribed by your rules

as if they were riches

of all kinds.

Page 57: The Word Of God

The Word of God15

I will meditate

on your precepts

and focus

on your behavior.

Page 58: The Word Of God

The Word of God16

I find delight

in your statutes;

I do not forgetyour instructions.

Page 59: The Word Of God

The Word of GodOur Lord’s Apostle Peter

puts the finishing touch on the importance of

knowing God’s Word.

Page 60: The Word Of God

The Word of God2 Peter 1:1 NET From Simeon

Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ,

to those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

Page 61: The Word Of God

The Word of Godhave been granted a faith just as precious as ours.

2 May grace and peace be lavished on you as you

grow in the rich knowledge of God and of

Jesus our Lord!

Page 62: The Word Of God

The Word of God3 I can pray this because

his divine power has bestowed on us

everything necessary for life and godliness

Page 63: The Word Of God

The Word of Godthrough the rich knowledge of the one who called us by

his own glory and excellence. 4 Through these things he has bestowed on us his precious and most magnificent promises,

Page 64: The Word Of God

The Word of Godso that by means of what

was promised you may become partakers of the

divine nature, after escaping the worldly

corruption that is produced by evil desire.

Page 65: The Word Of God

The Word of God5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith excellence,

to excellence, knowledge;

Page 66: The Word Of God

The Word of God6 to knowledge, self-

control; to self-control, perseverance; to

perseverance, godliness; 7 to godliness, brotherly affection; to brotherly

affection, unselfish love.

Page 67: The Word Of God

The Word of God8 For if these things are

really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from

becoming ineffective

Page 68: The Word Of God

The Word of Godand unproductive in your

pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more

intimately.

Page 69: The Word Of God

The Word of God9 But concerning the one who lacks such things he is blind. That is to say, he is nearsighted, since he has forgotten about the

cleansing of his past sins.

Page 70: The Word Of God

The Word of God10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to be sure of your calling

and election. For by doing this you will never

stumble into sin.

Page 71: The Word Of God

The Word of God11 For thus an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior,

Jesus Christ, will be richly provided for you.

Page 72: The Word Of God

The Word of God12 Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the

truth that you now have.

Page 73: The Word Of God

The Word of God13 Indeed, as long as I am

in this tabernacle, I consider it right to stir

you up by way of a reminder,

Page 74: The Word Of God

The Word of God14 since I know that my tabernacle will soon be removed, because our

Lord Jesus Christ revealed this to me.

Page 75: The Word Of God

The Word of God15 Indeed, I will also make every effort that, after my

departure, you have a testimony of these things.

Page 76: The Word Of God

The Word of GodPeter, the one man Jesus gave the opportunity, nay

the responsibility of preaching the first

Gospel sermon says, his divine power has

Page 77: The Word Of God

The Word of Godbestowed on us everything

necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the

one who called us by his own glory and

excellence.

Page 78: The Word Of God

The Word of GodGod has given us

everything we need for life and godliness!

We have what we need, will we use it?

Page 79: The Word Of God

The Word of GodPeter thought it important

people be constantly reminded of that which is

an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and

Savior, Jesus Christ.

Page 80: The Word Of God

The Word of GodPeter goes further to say;

Indeed, I will also make every effort that, after my

departure, you have a testimony of these things.

Page 81: The Word Of God

The Word of GodIt seems to me that Peter knew that he was writing

down what would be used for generations by

people seeking salvation.

Page 82: The Word Of God

The Word of GodSalvation that is only

available from Jesus, The Christ, The Son of God. Just from what Peter said don’t you think it prudent

to continually study

Page 83: The Word Of God

The Word of Godwhat God’s Spirit lead Peter and others to write down so we can know

about Jesus and the salvation that comes only

from Him?
