LISMORE BASE HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT — STAGE 3
The opening of Theatres (E6) and CSSD (E7) will
mark the completion of the redevelopment’s
South Tower (E block).
CSSD will become operational next week, with
the current CSSD, located on Level 3 C Block,
closing its doors at 6pm on Friday 23 March
2018, to relocate to the new, expanded facility
on E7. The new CSSD will be operational from
9.30am on Saturday 24 March 2018.
Staff have been working tirelessly to commission
the new facility which is substantially larger than the
current CSSD.
CSSD will be operational for two weeks in the new
location prior to the relocation of Theatres to E6 on
Wednesday April 4.
Theatres will enter a two-week reduced activity
period on Monday 26 March to enable staff to
relocate vital equipment across to the new E6
theatres to enable their opening.
From 8:00 on Wednesday 4 April, the new E6
theatres will commence surgery, with any
emergency surgery required overnight on Tuesday
3 April occurring in the existing theatres.
The reduced activity period will continue until
Sunday 8 April, with Monday 9 April seeing the E6
Theatres unit becoming fully operational.
Theatre staff participate in orientation and scenario testing in
the new E6 Theatres.
IT staff go through their check lists to ensure the unit is
fully functional.

LISMORE BASE HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT — STAGE 3
The demolition of A Block paves the way
for construction of North Tower to
commence.
Once demolition is completed, the next
step will be to cover the exposed ‘nib’ of A
Block with insulation and colourbond
cladding, and erect an external
Emergency Fire Exit staircase.
Once this is completed, construction on
North Tower will begin. Upon completion
in 2020, North Tower will be operationally
known within LBH as ‘F Block’.
F Block will comprise seven levels, sitting
adjacent to E Block’s Level 4 to Level 10
and joining E Block on every floor.
Once completed, F Block will contain:
Level 4 — Modern new security office, front of
house facilities, and new pharmacy;
Level 5 — Medical imaging;
Level 6 — Expanded theatres to include
perioperative service and endoscopy;
Level 7 — Plant;
Level 8 — New Intensive Care and High
Dependency Unit;
Level 9 — Medical Inpatient Unit;
Level 10 — Surgical Inpatient Unit.
Once F Block is completed and existing services
relocated, the final stage of the redevelopment will
occur: the refurbishment of the existing hospital to
create new outpatients, cardiology ward, and
education and training facilities .
