This was their culminating activity for raising funds for the American Heart Association. It all began last month with a kick-off assembly intro- ducing the Scare Squad characters who were weekly reminders on developing heart healthy habits. While our first time jumpers discovered the fun in jumping rope, our returning jump- ers showed their confidence in their developing skill level. The students first warmed up with some short-rope jumping before the all-time favorite long-ropes were released. Kindergartners enjoyed a ‘Jumping- for- Hearts’ activity while their older and more ‘experienced’ counter parts participated in some friendly jumping competition. Along with being encouraged to take on healthy heart challenges of their own, our students learned that their donated dollars help young children survive and recover from congenital heart conditions. I want to thank the parents for their efforts in supporting their child through this community service program and for those who came out to lend a helping hand. Lastly, the tasty healthy snacks and wa- ter provided by our kind and generous room moms and helpers were a welcomed sensation! Prayers

We often have many SPCS family members and friends in need of your prayers. Please pray for them.

Catherine Barber Mary Cooper Mary K. Kepchar Caitlin O’Shea Grace Sullivan

Bob Tittle

Michael Zajac

Rest in Peace

Please keep the family of Emery J. Bardoczi, Jr. “Jim” in your prayers. The grandfather of Lily (3) and Lexie Bardoczi (1) passed away earlier this week.

Note: If you would like to re-quest prayers for someone, please send a note to the office marked “Link” or simply send an email to <[email protected]>. Thanks!

Kristin Kantroski: We need one more push for ticket sales in The Link.

Karen Welch: Are you kidding me? I barely made it to this meeting; I’ve been trip-

ping over auction items for weeks. Doesn’t everyone know to go to www.MagicAndMischief.org to buy tickets by now?

KK: You’re funny.

KW: No. You’re funny.

KK: You know what’s NOT funny? We haven’t shared the Fund-A-Cause!

KW: Keep me away from the puppy on Saturday night; I want her! And can we buy the Kentucky Derby Package and get out of here when this is all over? Kidding! Kind of…

Show of hands. Who has heard of a makerspace? You have! [virtual high five!]

There is a trend pushing its way into schools called the maker movement. It is riding on the

coattails of STEAM curriculum and showing no signs of slowing down. Makerspaces are a

place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests, learn to use

tools and materials and develop creative projects. It’s not a science or computer lab, nor a

woodshop or art room, but it may contain elements found in all of these. Simply stated, it is a

place where things are made. It’s DIY! It’s learning that is relevant to students’ interests- just,

as a child would check out a book of a genre they prefer. Tinkering, collaborative learning,

play, conversations for learning, experimentation, inquiry, the act of creation and problem

solving- call it what you will, but know this, the possibilities of a makerspace are endless, un-

expected and fun!

When the auctioneer hits the stage on Saturday night and the paddle raise begins for Fund-A-

Cause, we will hope to raise $10,000 to arm our librarian, Mrs. Kaye, with the tools she needs

to turn our library in to a makerspace*. On our wishlist: laptops, ipads, 3-D printer, Bloxels,

Makey/Makeys, sewing machine, craft supplies, Legos, K’nex, green screens

Eat! Drink! Give! See you Saturday.

*Funds raised over $10,000, will go toward paving the GaGa Pit and a new piece of playground equip-

ment to be voted on by SPCS families.

8th Gr. Wins Last Six Games Going into CYO Playoffs— Coach Sherman

The Saint Paul Girls’ 8th Grade basketball team has won their last six games, defeating Ben Franklin (7th and 8th B teams), and

then winning the last four CYO games over Aquinas, St. Pat’s, St. Casimir’s and St. John Bosco. The girls finished their regu-

lar CYO season at 5-3, with two potential wins cancelled due to weather.

Kailyn Smith and Sophia Jaime have led the team in scoring, rebounding and defending. Abby Alex, Patricia Cespedes and

Bridget Sherman have provided outstanding ball handling and defense, and Isabelle Uthuppan has been an inside scoring and

rebounding force. Zoe Irving has provided additional scoring support, while Katie Woodburn, Fiorella Cespedes, Grace Cy-

Gan and Shannon Pidrak have all supported the team with great hustle and determination in reserve roles.

The 8th Grade girls open their CYO playoff season this weekend with a game against St. Casimir at 10:00 at our Saint Paul

Gym. Come cheer us on!

Call Out for Track!— Ray Tarnow, SPCS Athletic Director

Track call out meeting will be Thursday, April 5th, after school until 3:30pm. The meeting will take place in the gym. All

paperwork for practice dates, meet dates will be passed out at that time.

It has been almost 17 years since I graduated from Saint Paul Catholic School. From kindergarten through 8 th grade, Saint Paul’s instilled

values in me and taught skills that I have carried through adolescence and into adulthood. Specifically, development in the areas of Educa-

tion, Service, Leadership, Friendship and Faith at Saint Paul’s have shaped who I am to this day. Saint Paul’s prepared me for lifelong

learning.

The rigorous curriculum challenged me and modeled for me the curriculum I would be faced with as a high school and college student.

Through service projects as a middle school student, I was able to better explore and develop my love of helping others, which impacted my

decision to become a Special Education Teacher. Saint Paul’s provided me with leadership opportunities in both the National Junior Honor

Society and CYO sports program, which built self-confidence and taught skills that are still important in my career today.

Many of my fondest memories are of the fun times during my years at Saint Paul’s. The friends that were met in the hallways and classrooms

in the old school building are some friendships that I hold most dear to this day. Daily religion class and weekly Mass taught me the im-

portance of living out my faith, not by Mass attendance only, but by exemplifying it in my daily life actions. The field trips, group projects,

extra-curricular activities, sports, school dances, classroom parties, and the like, are memories of my years at Saint Paul Catholic School and

will stay with me for a lifetime.

I’m so blessed that my parents were able and chose to send my siblings and me to a school where we received a faith -based educational foun-

dation, were cared for and lovingly guided, and were able to lay a solid foundation on which to build success in our futures.

Looking Back at SPCS— Katie (Franz) Hampton, SPCS Graduate
