Thesis Precedent

Technology The best technology for self-generating lights is solar paint, which is an environ-mentally friendly solar cell that will allow every home and volume, to generate its own electricity, affordably and sustainably. This paint is cheap and can be made in any color. It contains nanopar-ticles of titanium dioxide. The particles are coated with semiconducting cadmium Nano crystals, and mixed with water and alcohol.

Suspended Ornamentation

The project aim is to discover the perception of figuration and voids within residential blocks. The concept study initiated with an investigation of two-dimensional Persian calligraphy forms and trying to develop those into three-dimen-sional figures. The concern is to convert these volumes into sort of thick ornamentation within voids to represent a greener, more involute and fascinating area which is beyond the emptiness of vacuity. In this project the void is no more defines as a completely empty space, it is a soft flow of volumes penetrating into the dead gaps, creating a live space. Through the incorporation of voids within these volumes, the two-dimen-sional patterns contribute to a variety of percep-tual readings: from clear to volumetric legibility, to feathered edge, to the complete erasure of the volumes. The attempt with my project is to cre-ate abstraction through the moments of legibility from particular forms.

Soft FlowThe proposed site is in a residential area of Agoura Hills, located at the north-west of Los Angeles. It is next to a shopping center and a water canal. Due to the moist soil of area, part of the residential land has left unconstructed which has created a gap within houses.

The proposal is to create a suspended ornamentation in the dead gaps of residential blocks. The intent is to vitalize the area and provide a space for neighborhood community activities. The flowing ornamenta-tion should be capable of self-generating lights by capturing the sun lights.
