www.thalesgroup.com/security-services The Challenge The Presto program is an automated fare collection system that will establish a single fare card based on contactless smart card technology, allowing cardholders access to transit authorities throughout the Province of Ontario in Canada. Current efforts are focused on the Greater Toronto Area's (GTA) 9 transit service providers providing multiple modes of transit (e.g. trains, subways, buses and streetcar); however, efforts are underway to extend the capability to other regions, such as the National Capital Region as well as evaluate the introduction of new transit-related services, such as commuter parking and para-transit. The Presto initiative, led by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), is a key public commitment as part of the Ontario Government's "Growth Strategy". Its focus is on increasing transit ridership and operational efficiency, improving customer experience, and supporting the ever-increasing demand for intra and inter integration.
