All Souls Day Thursday, November 2 Mass at 7:30 a.m.

Vespers at 7:00 p.m.

The Communion of Saints On Wednesday this week we celebrate the great Solemnity of All Saints (see Mass schedule). It is the feast that honors all the faithful ‘heroes’ and ‘heroines’ of our Christian family album who have gone before us and showed us how to really ‘follow’ Jesus Christ. We have many saints we call by name but there are millions more, like some of our own deceased parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, who did their best to live their Christian faith, whom we pray are rewarded now by God in heaven. Our doctrine of the “Communion of Saints” teaches that we, too, are part of the ‘sainthood crowd,’ even though we sometimes do not live up to the standards of holiness for which we strive. How wonderful that Mother Church still includes us in her role call of sainthood Communion, which is so encouraging for us! Like parents who encourage their children to be-have better than they do, our Church and the “cloud of faithful witnesses” who have gone before us urge us on to never give up on our call to holi-ness. Each new day is a gift from God to get up and start again on the path to sainthood. This past Tuesday, about 150 volunteers and ministry leaders gathered in our church to pray together and reflect on how each of us are here to help one another grow in holiness in the way we serve God and one another. Thanks to each of you who are making daily efforts to grow in your own holiness and helping your children and grandchildren to follow the exam-ple of Jesus: Keeping God at the center of all we do and say; and loving our neighbor as our self. Thanks for helping me grow in holiness too! Fr. Jim Deiters PS: Be sure and join us for the feast of All Souls as well on Thursday night, 7:00 PM Vespers, where we specifically pray for our deceased family members and friends.

This Sunday is Priesthood Sunday. We celebrate the great vocation of Priesthood and offer prayers for an increase to this calling. We thank Fr. Jim for responding to God’s call! “Wherever God has put you, that is your vocation. It is not what we do but how much love we put into it.” St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta “God inscribed in the humanity of man and woman the voca-tion of love and communion. Love is therefore the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being.” St. John Paul II

Work of Human Hands Fair Trade Sale November 11/12

Mark your calendars!!

As a global movement, fair trade brings a en on to people around the world who work under ex-ploita ve condi ons and highlights the true costs of goods in global supply chains. Organiza ons and ac vists, businesses and brands, farmers, workers and ar sans have diligently worked for more than 50 years to bring greater balance to the terms of trade. Fair trade supports farmers and cra speople in developing countries who are socially and eco-nomically marginalized. These producers o en face steep hurdles in finding markets and custom-ers for their goods. Again this year, Blessing baskets will be back with us selling beau ful hand made baskets of various sizes, designs and colors. Plow-sharing gi s will be here with various gi and clothing items for sale. These items make ide-al Christmas gi s, they are unique and well made. In addi on, we will have hand made items from India cra ed by women seeking to earn a living and create a new improved life under the direc-

on of the Catholic sisters. A new addi on will be Rowena's jewelry made from African beads. The profits from sales support the Twigs For Kids program that provides summer meals and weekends snacks to poverty level school aged children in Granite City. Colorful Afri-can beads make reasonably priced bracelets and necklaces. St Clare's Fair Trade Coffee and Chocolate will be available for purchase as well.
