    SWEET MARBLES

The boy told the girl that he will give her all his marbles in

exchange for her sweets. The girl agreed. The boy kept the

biggest and the most beautiful marble aside and gave the rest

to the girl. The girl gave him all her sweets as she had

    promised.

That night, the girl slept peacefully. But the boy couldnt sleep

as he kept wondering if the girl had hidden some sweets from

him the way he had hidden his best marble.

    We Connect

We already learned that we have to be faithful to the

agreements, promises and commitments that we make

    to sustain our relationships.

However, we also know that we cannot remain true to

our commitments unless we are WILLINGto set asideour own interests for the good of the other person

    involved in our relationship.

Let us go back to what the girl did in our

story? What do you think was the feeling or

thought that moved the girl to give all hercandies in exchange for the marbles?

    CHALLENGE: SELFLESS LOVE and

    the OTHERS

How can you then be selfless?

The Ninth Commandment challenges us to have the

attitude and values of the girl in our story. She was

honest and selfless enough to give away all hercandies for the boy. We must be able to desire what is

best for the other person and not only for ourselves.

Good actions must also come from good intentions

    and desire.

We gain more when we desire and think of givingmore to others. Our story says that the girl was

peaceful and happy while the boy was troubled and

    sad.
