INFANT BAPTISMS The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. by appointment only. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session

is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-Catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman

Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Barbara Bunag at 732-257-7722.

MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive

period of preparation. Contact must be made with Parish Center one year in advance.

MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish

Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO ARE

SICK AS WELL AS THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING IN

THE ARMED FORCES

Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, accord-ing to Mark, opens with the Baptism of Jesus at the Jordan River. Immediately, Jesus calls His first disciples and announces the Coming of the Kingdom of God. There is such an ur-gency to Mark’s Gospel. The time of fulfill-ment is here and one must decide to follow Christ and become part of His Mission to bring the good news of salvation to the world. By our Baptism into Christ, we are called to follow Him and to build His Kingdom by the holiness of our lives. Next Sunday, January 28th, begins Catholic Schools Week. The 10 am will be celebrated with our faculty and students. There will be an Open House immediately following the lit-urgy. Please come to the Mass and plan on visiting our school to see all the many im-provements that we have been able to provide through the generosity of our parishioners. I am so very grateful for all your support. May God bless you for your goodness. In Christ, Fr. Thomas

Dear Parents and Guardians and Parishioners, I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend as we celebrated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I attended elementary school at St. Margaret’s School in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and the Dominican sisters who taught at the school participated in the march led by Dr. King from Selma to Montgomery. When they returned, we joined in prayers for unity and peace and were taught to sing the song, We Shall Overcome. The eloquence of Dr. King’s words continue to guide us today and we work to pass his message onto our students. One of our alumni, Mrs. Maligranda’s daughter, is a volunteer at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Rhode Island, which makes a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable residents of Newport County. Our eighth grade students traveled to the Holocaust Museum with students from the East Brunswick Jewish Center on Mon-day, and I thank Mrs. Trenery and Mrs. Fassold for their assis-tance and for educating our students on this important part of history. Catholic Schools Week begins January 28 with the 10:00 am Mass, Pancake Breakfast, and Open House, which begins at 11:30 am. Students will host the Mass and process in with ban-ners. Students are encouraged to attend in uniform to support the opening of Catholic Schools Week. Students will partici-pate in Penny Wars throughout the week to support Catholic Charities. On Monday, January 29, students may dress in red, white, and blue and sneakers as they participate in Winter Olympic activities. Tuesday, January 30, is School Spirit Day, so students may dress in green, gold, and sneakers as the Teach-ers vs Eighth Grade Volleyball Game takes place. Wednesday, January 31, is the mandatory Literacy Fair, which begins at 7:00 pm. Students will enjoy an assembly on Thursday, February 1, called Bach 2 Rock, about the science of sound. Catholic Schools Week ends with Mass on February 2 and Open House from 9:30-10:30 am and 12:15-1:15 pm and Family Bingo Night. Please help to spread the good news of St. Bartholomew School.

Re-registration packets were sent home this week with your oldest/only child. Please return by February 5 to take advantage of the reduction in registration fee. Please note that the second marking period ends on January 26, so please contact your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns. Please support the Polar Bear Plunge on January 28, organized for St. Bartholomew School by Mr. O’Grady. Students may dress down for donation on January 25 to support this event.

JANUARY 21, 2018 THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

DECISION MAKING Making decisions is not always easy. Sometimes we have second thoughts about what we are doing. Sometimes we hesitate, waver. Sometimes we need to affirm a choice we have already made. So it is with God's call to come closer to him. Maybe we are eager to respond but afraid that there will be a price to be paid. Perhaps we may just want to maintain the status quo because we are unwilling to invest the energy and time that it would require. Do you or someone you know hear God calling to come closer? Typically, the call from God is indicated in the desires and hopes of our hearts. The RCIA Inquiry Sessions are opportunities to gather, ask, learn, pray, ponder and discern. We invite all who are unbaptized, baptized into another Christian denomination, or baptized Catholic but have not received BOTH Sacraments of Confir-mation and Eucharist. For more information call RCIA at 732-562-1990 x 163
