PASTOR’S CORNER

Today’s bulletin corrects a major omission on my part. This past year as we’ve weathered the pandemic, I failed to publish the fiscal year in review. Every year we need a report to the faithful on the finances of the parish. In all the confusion 2019-2020 that report got bumped. We of course are approaching the conclusion of the subsequent fiscal year and so will have that information in just a few months, but it’s important to have last year’s data as well, particularly in a time of so much disruption. As you review the figures for last year, let me identify several key points:

• As always, the bottom line is the bottom line, and for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, we concluded with a net income of $38,685.97. This of course is good news.

• One primary reason for that is found under “Other Operating Receipts” at $112,607.51. About $100,000 of that is from the PPP, the government’s support for payroll to ensure employees could continue to be paid.

• Without that infusion, we would have ended the year about $60,000 in the red, which would have been crushing.

• The full amount of the Federal PPP loan (which has been forgiven so does not need to be paid back) is found at the bottom of the page and includes the funding for our teachers and school employees.

• The biggest success story of the year is the Offertory Collections at $689,581.94, which reflects parishioners (you!) going out of their way to support the parish even when no basket is being passed around at Mass.

• The biggest omission in the columns is the number of staff laid off to remain fiscally solvent. We let go of five full time positions and one part time position, and have hobbled together coverage with two part time roles and one full time staff.

So in sum, we’ve had a major accomplishment in ending the year in the black, but at the cost of severe impingement of our ability to operate. We’ve seen extraordinary initiative on the part of our parishioners to donate with many more contributing online, some mailing in donations, and others personally dropping off donations at the church. As we continue to navigate these tumultuous waters, it is the support of each one of you that makes a future possible for our parish.

Family Faith Formation

Here at St. Isidore parish, we have transitioned to a Family Faith Formation program for sacrament preparation and formation of our children. Our goal is to help our parents recognize their dignity as the first educators of their children in our faith and to support them in this role. In order to do this properly, we need your help. As we seek to enfold our faith formation families into our larger parish community, we are looking for families and individuals who might be willing to mentor and accompany them, and we will offer a formation for this purpose. We have other needs as well, such as hospitality and organization.

We have been given a great gift of faith and a beautiful parish community at St. Isidore. As stewards of this gift, we are called to share it with others. If you feel that the Lord may be calling you to share your time and talent in Family Faith Formation or would like to learn more, please come to a discernment meeting next Saturday, April 24th at 9:00 a.m. We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Knox at [email protected].

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Do you want our Lord to give many graces? Visit Him often.

Do you want our Lord to give few graces? Visit Him seldom.

Visits to the Blessed Sacrament are powerful and indispensable means of overcoming the attacks of the devil.

Make frequent visits to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and the devil will be powerless against you. - St. John Bosco

Men Need Brotherhood

Fraternity is not just for religious orders...God has made us to unite in brotherhood. When we are isolated, we are weak. Sin always has an isolating effect and holiness always has a uniting effect. That uniting is not just with God, but with the whole Body of Christ. Like monastics, men can unite and open themselves up to the accountability and strength that comes from communion.

Fraternus is a Catholic brotherhood for all ages. In Fraternus, men are challenged to accept and live the reality that they are sons of God. As sons of God they are truly brothers. And as men mature as brothers they in turn become fathers that pass on the faith. Interested? We meet each Thursday night at 7 pm through May 20th to discern starting a chapter of Fraternus in our local area. Contact Greg Thompson, 530-713-9909, to learn more and begin a great adventure!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD

IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

How to Fail Your Way to Heaven

You know what are some of my favorite moments in

Scripture? The little “Easter eggs” of Jesus’ humanity,

things like Jesus falling asleep, Jesus drawing in the sand,

Jesus playing with kids. And how about Jesus rising from

the dead, appearing to his disciples and saying, “So, have

you got anything to eat?”

It’s right for us to always keep in mind that Jesus is God.

But we also have to remember that he was man. He got

hungry. He cried when he felt sad and laughed when he felt

happy. He got tired. He got bored.

Because he was God, none of those feelings ever led him

into sin, like they do us. He never spent a car ride trying to

pass the hours by seeing how annoyed he could make his

older sister. He never smacked Peter over the head for

saying something really stupid. But he did unleash some

Biblically righteous anger on those traders in the temple,

didn’t he? And he wasn’t shy about calling Peter “a Satan”

when his friend tempted him to take the easy way out.

It’s the tightrope walk we all try to balance every day,

honoring our human emotions while still answering God’s

call to be better. Being perfect isn’t the domain of the

Christian — that’s the domain of Christ only. Trying and

failing, then trying again (and failing again) and again and

again? That’s the domain of the Christian. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS ©LPi

y otra vez? Ese es el dominio del cristiano. - Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
