Lenten Religion & Life Series based on Parker Palmer’s Five Habits of the Heart,                 will be held on Wednesdays through March 25 from 7‐9pm in East Fellowship Hall.        Pastor Paul will lead this series encouraging the critical value of forming community out of our diversity. Those who participated in the series last year are welcome to participate again as a way of strengthening the habits that we wish to form. If you have friends who might be interested in the Habits of the Heart, please encourage them to participate. While we will gather as a whole, we will divide into smaller groups for the essential sharing. Though attendance at all five sessions is not essential, it is encouraged. Contact Pastor Paul with queries: [email protected]. The five sessions:

Affirming that ‘we are all in this together’  Deep listening to the Other – ‘listening the other into speech’  Holding tension in community in life giving ways  Articulating one’s own passions & deeply felt convictions  Trusting that God will move us forward into wholeness and abundance

“I truly believe that this is a process which is ideal for our time. I believe that people are fundamentally tired of the caustic ‘tribalism’ which currently dominates much of our media, our politics, and our culture.  This is a simple process, but one which requires practice.  In essence, we will be learning the ways in which we can hold the tension of our day in ways that bless us rather than divides us. Issues are important but deeper than the issues is our common desire to live into the abundance that God desires for all God’s children.”      ~ Pastor Paul

UPark’s Faith in Action Committee (FIA), in order to better understand the total scope of the missional outreaches of UPark members, has been asking those who regularly volunteer their time with local or international causes to share information about their work. If this applies to you and you’ve not completed a form at a meeting, please send an email to OliveAnn Slotta (FIA Chair): [email protected] with the following information:  1) Your name; 2) Name of the organization; 3) The number of hours/month you serve; 4) What inspires/calls you to do this work. Thank you.

Abrahamic Initiative & Saint John’s Cathedral Host Fourth Annual Hunger, Faith & Food Conference: An Interfaith Call to Action ‐ Faith Institutions and Community Partners Commit to Ending Local Hunger Join us for the fourth annual Hunger, Faith & Food conference at Saint John’s Episcopal Cathedral, on March 19 from 3 to 6 pm, 1350 Washington St. A plenary session on Sacred Writ will help us to hear God’s still,

small voice. Two simple workshops will inspire us and give us tools to act. The conference ends with a potluck meal, all‐faiths‐ and vegan‐friendly, in Dagwell Hall. Locally grown, made, baked, brewed, and vinted. Contact: [email protected]

Wayne and Dorothea Littrell to celebrate their 75th Wedding Anniversary!

Wayne and Dorothea's daughters, Pat, Marilyn and Linda, are pleased to announce that their parents will be celebrating their 75th Wedding Anniversary on March 24th, 2015. We would love to surprise them with a Card Shower and we know it would please them so much to hear from you. We will be making an Anniversary Album with all of the cards and presenting it to them at a reception. Please send your cards and notes by March 15th to:

Pat Flagg, 11069 W. Walker Dr., Littleton, CO 80127. Also, please join the Littrell’s and their family at a 75th Anniversary Reception Celebration on Sunday, March 22, 2‐4pm in our East Fellowship Hall.

End Gun Violence Event Features Prominent Rabbi as Guest Speaker Is there such a thing as a “smart gun”?  JOE, the Jewish Outreach Effort, and Temple Emanuel will hold a special program featuring Rabbi Joel Mosbacher, a national leader in the effort to make smart gun technology available to the public.  Mosbacher is national co‐chair of the Do Not Stand Idly By (DNSIB) Campaign, which works to

reduce gun violence by pressing firearm manufacturers to introduce safer weapons. The DNSIB campaign has been endorsed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and over 70 municipalities.  JOE is made up of members of local Jewish congregations allied with Colorado Faith Communities United to End Gun Violence.

The event is free and open to the public. Tuesday, March 31, at 7:00 pm – 8:30, followed by a reception at Temple Emanuel, 51 Grape Street, Denver.

The fire arm industry continues to press the belief that the more guns in distribution the safer our streets/homes will be.  The United States has the highest firearm ownership rate of any country, and yet has a firearms homicide rate 20 times the average of 22 peer countries.  On February 19th, the Colorado Senate by straight party‐line voted to allow anyone to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. On February 23 the Colorado Senate had in committee the ban on high capacity ammunition magazines.

Does this truly make us safer?      ~ Pastor Paul
