OPENING SLATE WITH DIRECTORS NAME

First shot of the trailer shows the directors name. The graffiti style of font used for his name indicates that the film is set in a rough area of England , also the anarchy symbol used for the letter ‘A’ reflects the era it is set in as well as the 70s and 80s was a time in which the youth culture used the symbol to express them self's and there beliefs.

The reason for the first shot in the trailer is so that the audience can learn who directed the film as well as gaining a familiarity of the style and genre of the film for certain audience members whom already know his work as he is already a well established director.

Music= reggae/ska (happy)

FILM Music= reggae/ska (happy)

This allows the audience to understand what time and era the film is set in as well as showing what happened in 1983 and how it effect or doesn’t effect the characters in the film. The fast cuts are also in time with the ska/reggae music which nicely sums up the decade in a short space of time

MID SHOT OF PROTAGONIST WITH SOUND BRIDGE OF HIM SAYING ‘I’VE BEEN PICKED ON

THREE TIMES TODAY’ Music= reggae/ska (happy)

Shot of Shaun on a bike living his everyday life. This shows what the protagonist of the film is like at the beginning of the film. He is presented as an outsider, quite lost and looking for identity as he doesn’t have many friends and gets picked on at school. The sound bridge allows the audience to understand more about the main protagonist as he gets picked on at school and also allows the audience to understand where abouts in England the film is set due to his northern accent

CONTINUOUS SHOTS OF SHEAN IN SCHOOL AND PEOPLE POINTING AT HIM AND LAUGHING

‘wood stocks that way pal’

Music= reggae/ska (happy)

The continuous shots of Shean in school and people pointing at him and laughing allow the audience to see that he is an outsider and that he doesn’t enjoy school and is finding it hard to fit in. A boy at school says to him ‘wood stocks that way pal’ this shows that Shean doesn’t fit in at school and that he is out of style. Wood stock was in very popular in the 70s so the boy is referring him to being out of style and he doesn’t belong in the era of the 80s.

SEAN MEETS A GROUP OF OLDER BOYS AND THEY CHEER HIM UP FOR BEING PICKED ON

‘whos been picking on you lad’ ‘Harvey’ ‘HARVEY?’ ‘give you one of those for you my name is Harvey’ *laughing

Music= reggae/ska (happy)

On his way home from school Shean meets a group of older boys that he gets along with and that cheer him up. This shows the start of a new relationship that Shean would be having with. They don’t pick on him at all, they don’t make fun of him due to his clothing or age which allows him to feel comfortable around the other boys.

This shows the audience that there is a change within his life and that he has made new friends and he doesn’t feel like an outsider as much anymore

FAST CUTS OF SEAN CHANGING HIS STYLE TO BECOME A SKIN HEAD TO FIT IN WITH HIS NEW FRIENDS

Music= reggae/ska (happy)

The trailer shows some fast edits of Shean and his mum buying a pair of Doc martin boots and him getting his head shaved by his new friends. This part of the trailer shows the change that Shean undergoes to fit in with his new friends and also changes his look to fit in with the 80s skinhead crowd.

The fast cuts where edited in black and white and also where in time with the reggae/ska soundtrack. This links with the fast cuts at the begging of the trailer which adds familiarity to the trailer as well as summing up Shean’s change quickly and nicely within the trailer. The use of the black and white filter over the top of the fast cuts allows the audience to reminisce and remember what the 80s where like as well as younger audiences to get a understand of the time and how teenagers change.

Music= reggae/ska (happy)

The continuous shots of Shean and his new friends hanging out and having a good time shows the innocence of Shean due to his age as well as showing the audience a day to day model of what this group of skinhead youths do in 1983. The sound bridge of woody saying ‘honestly mate you look sterling’ indicates to the audience that he now fits in with his new group of friends as he is now accepted as one of them.

After many different shots of Shean and his new friends having fun and living there everyday life the picture cuts to black and the happy reggae/ska music stops with woody saying ‘‘ive got someone you want to meet’. This shows a disruption within the trailer and film as they introduce the new character as well as the music changing to silence allowing the trailer to a dramatic effect as the audience can understand there is a disruption between the characters.
