THIS PAST WEEK & MORE UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19: In response to COVID-19 Bethany College announced that that Spring Break would start at the end of classes today, one week before it was scheduled to start. The residence halls will remain open for those students who do not wish to travel. The college will continue to monitor the guidelines from local and state health officials and the Department of Education, and provide an update to students as to whether on March 25. At this time classes will resume March 30, but with the fluid nature of COVID-19, it is possible classes may need to transition to another platform. These considerations and more will be discussed this next week. Other updates will be announced as necessary on the college website and social media. All other college offices remain open. Find updates on the website at https://www.bethanylb.edu/coronavirus/ PEARSON PROFESSOR 2020: The Pearson Professor Lecture on April 6, 2020 has been cancelled. Professor Dag Blanck is not able to travel from Sweden because of COVID-19. MESSIAH FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS: In the abundance of caution, the Bethany Oratorio Society chorus and orchestra rehearsals will be suspended for two weeks, meaning there is NO REHEARSAL, March 15, nor March 22. Rehearsal will resume March 29 at 3pm. Women are requested to arrive at 2pm on March 29 (location TBD) to rehearse for Palm Sunday. Thank you in advance for flexibility and understanding. We appreciate the flexibility shown by ASI and its President Bruce Karstadt 73 and ask foryour understanding in dealing with this challenging situation

Juried Student Art Exhibition to Start March 16 asPart of Messiah FestivalThe annual Bethany College Messiah Festival Juried Student Art Exhibition starts March 162020 and will continue through April 17 in the Mingenback Art Center gallery on the cornerof Olsson and Second Street on the Bethany College campus The show will exhibit localwomen artists from the Sandzen Collection as well as Bethany College students

Featured works for this yearrsquos student exhibition were chosen by juror ValerieHaring Valerie is a life-long Kansan and currently the chair of the Art Department at ButlerCommunity College where she attended as an undergraduate and has taught for nearly 30years She earned her BSE from Emporia State University and an MA from Wichita StateUniversity Valerie is a painter who also creates assemblages sculpture photography anddigital prints She traces her interest in art from her childhood where she loved to ldquofindrdquoobjects and assemble odds-and-ends into artistic creations In her current work Valerieutilizes a striped composition and her intellectual personal and artistic discoveries aremanifest in the artwork she makes

Works may be submitted by any student so long as the work was created since the lastMessiah Exhibition Work can be submitted for 2D 3D DesignPhotography or Digital Artscategories Juror Valerie Haring chose works based on what she considered to be a goodfit for this exhibition and selected art works from the following students
