Thriller genres are films or movies that has an exciting plot. It used tocreate suspense, tension and excitement all at the same time . After theassassination of President Kennedy, thriller themed films became verypopular and successful for example Alferd Hitchcock film Psycho.
Through the use of cliff hangers, audiences are meant to feel a mixture ofemotions such as tension suspense terror and high level of anticipation. Thisis because of information being hidden and the usual fight and chase sceneswhich are common methods used in most thriller films.
Types of thrillers:legal thriller, spy thriller, action-adventure thriller, medical thriller, policethriller, romantic thriller, historical thriller, political thriller, religiousthriller, high-tech thriller, military thriller.

Since audiences were becoming fed up of the repeatsof same genre films, directors wanted to develop a new
way that film can thrill their viewers. This idea grewwhen producers borrowed stories from popular serialliteratures that all ended in cliff hangers and sees thehero in mortal danger. The most famous examples are
1914 series of Perils of Pauline and Homer'sOdyssey, theses are some of the oldest stories in theWestern world and is regarded as an early prototype ofthe thriller.

Modern thrillers films are now a mixtures from more than 1 set of conventions, yet it still has itown conventions that makes audience able to identify it.
Thriller Generic Characteristics:
y Often the plot/ narrative surrounds around crime such as theft and murder with a mixture
of actin that will thrill the audience. Also the story line are ordinary yet with extraordinaryand complicated things happening.
y Tension is created when the protagonist involved in shown to be imperfect and have aweakness that the antagonist will exploit, leading to the protagonist to face situations inwhich the protagonist is weak on. Therefore would have to go through tough time to getthrough the situation in order to build up suspense and action the film. Also the protagonist
feels helpless and isolated.
y Thriller also used enigmas, this is basically the mysterious of the plot, which is either the
audience knowing the murder or both the characters and audience not knowing the murder.y Dramatic irony is another key aspect that thriller genre film use to build suspense. As the
audience know more about the characters in the story therefore they feel guilty and fearfulfor them.
Micro elements combine in a build up of suspense. (Micro means film elements likecamerawork, sound, narrative, genre, mise-en-scene, lighting, costumes, actors and facial
expressions, etc.)
