I was born in Malaysia, I am a Malaysia Chinese. Growing up I was into films, cartoons, singing, music, and drawing. In 2007 I went to an art college called The One Academy to study animation, and graduated in 2010. I ended up staying in my college became an animation teacher/tutor. I taught 3D Animation basics and Maya Essentials. After 2 and half years of teaching, I decided to continue my study in animation. I came to UK in 2013 to take animation course. I will be graduating in 2014. I love pretty much anything that has to do with Art, animation and teaching. I feel very lucky for doing what I'm doing and have fun at what I do. From here, I want to thank my family and friends and all those people that helped me along the way.

B I C Y C L E Bicycle is an animated short that I did during my final year. It was done in 2D animation style and runs for 3minutes and 20 seconds long. The short is about a love story of a boy. The aim of this project is to make good use of the opportunity of a solo project, to show my general knowledge of all stages of production.

Concert of the Bugs

This is an animated short that directed and animated by me, the first solo project that I did when I join UWE. Concert of the Bugs is black comedy and it’s about few bugs and a frog performing in an orchestral recital.

Original soundtrack composed and recorded by me as well. The shot was done in digital 2D animation techniques. The film runs for 1 minute and 19 seconds. Award winning: Royal Television Society Student Award

Story Development Before the decision of final story was made, I wanted to make a touching story which talks about love. Although I did a mind map, I gave up at the end because I could not think of any story about love at that moment. I fell into sleep.

Insect, Music, Animation The next day, I asked myself what do I like; insect, music and animation were the first things that came to my mind. Right then, I decided to use these three elements to make a story. ‘A bunch of insects having a concert’ I came out with this tag line. And I would need to produce a song or music for this animation.

Making Decision After asking opinion from my classmates, I decided to use a dung beetle, a butterfly and a bunch of fireflies for my animation. But, as the story developed, I knew I have no enough time for so many character animations, so I took away the idea of fireflies, and replaced four half-body worms for the vocal of my animation. I added a frog as the Ukulele player; and the butterfly remained.

Simplifying Design of the Characters

After the characters’ had been designed, I started to worry about if the designs were too detailed and complex to

animate, and am I able to do that? I asked myself. So then, I decided to simplify everything; and I finally got the final look

for my characters.
