Village Schools

Volume 1, Issue 8 Quick News Though building a new PreK-3 building will require voter approval, the early preparations for constructing a new school on the current Broadway site are progressing. An internal core group has been meeting regularly to discuss space issues, possible design features, swing space, site surveys, and budgets. The compilation of this information is critical to the development of an outstanding educational facility that best meets the needs of our students, teachers, and local community. This preliminary process also includes a series of community meetings to share information and engage residents in some of the decisions on how the school might be designed and what is important to include. The first meeting is Tuesday, October 13 beginning at 6:30 PM in the cafeteria at Broadway Elementary School. I am truly excited about the chance to update you on this important project and hear your wonderful ideas to shape our PreK-3 Tipp school.

Broadway’s Super Citizens

2nd Grade

Broadway’s Super Citizens

3rd Grade

Congratulations to the students at Broadway Elementary School who were named this month’s Super Citizens. These 2nd and 3rd

graders were nominated for this recognition for showing respect and responsibility.

A Gesture of Appreciation

The Foods and Fitness classes at Tippecanoe High School are adopting teachers! Many days the labs have leftovers of food students prepare so teacher Lisa Colebaugh and her students are introducing “Adopt-A-Staff.” Each lab group will randomly select staff members to adopt, and when the group has leftovers, students will bring a sample to the staff member they have adopted. What a great way to share and show appreciation!

The Tippecanoe High School’s ASTRA Club is holding a Lemonade Stand to support childhood cancer research. On September 29 and 30, club members will be selling lemonade and cookies outside the main entrance of THS from 1:45 to 3:15 . Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation began when 4-year old cancer patient, Alexandra Scott, decided to start a lemon-ade stand to raise money for cancer research. When she died at age 8, her parents continued the legacy and created the foundation. The concept of “fighting childhood cancer, one cup at a time” has allowed people who might not usually participate in fundraising, especially children, to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer. Each donation further funds ongoing research to continue this cause. Each donation could go towards any of 500 cutting-edge research projects, a travel program to help support families of children receiving treatment, or to develop resources to help people everywhere affected by childhood cancer.

Stay ing Fi t ; Having Fun 2015 Science Fair Kick Off

The 2015 Science Fair Kickoff and Informational meeting for interested high school students will be Tuesday, September 29th from 2:45-3:15 in room 218. Science fair is open to all Tippecanoe High School students and provides an excellent opportunity to research and investigate a topic of personal interest. Parents, encourage your children to consider this fabulous learning experience. Science Fair is a wonderful resume builder and offers awards and scholarships. The Science Fair is also open to students in grades 4-8. Contact your science teacher for more details and the paperwork.

Books and Buttons is the name of the newest club offered to Tippecanoe High School students. Started by Library Media Specialist Shari Wickline, the club meets on Tuesdays from 2:45-3:30 in the high school Library Media Center. Intervention Specialist Allysson Rudnicki is assisting. The pair designed the after-school activity so students of all abilities can be accommodated. Each month students will choose a book to read and share based on the month’s genre. They will also enjoy various activities and/or crafts that correlate to the month’s theme. Students are excited and enthusiastic about being able to read something of their choosing to share with their peers, as well as having the opportunity to creatively express themselves in a warm and welcoming setting.

Supportive in Pink Terrific Tippecanoe Middle School students and staff are supportive in pink. Tonight the volleyball team and fans will honor and remember those affected by breast cancer. The evening includes gift raffles, a 50/50 raffle and serve-for-a-pizza game to raise money for the Pink Ribbon Girls, a local organization that helps women receiving treat-ment with meals, transportation, house cleaning and support.
