Importing point objects as links GIS systems commonly store valves and
pumps as point objects IWWS considers these assets to be links So we need to be able to import points
objects directly into a links table
Step 1 Import valves (or pumps)
IWWS will generate two nodes and a link for each point object imported
The From and To node will have the same name but will be differentiated by an X and Y
You do not need to define the To Node ID in the Open Data Import Centre
Step 2 Import nodes Using ODIC in the usual way The model now has the following elements
Step 3 Import pipes Do NOT define a From and To Node ID The model now has the following elements
But the two valve nodes are located on top of each other
Step 4 Expand short links Select all the valves Model > Expand Short Links And the result is
Dashboards A collection of graphical components
called widgets Used to display a high level overview of
information Based on the results of queries that can be
run on a network or live data Once created, the dashboard can be
applied to the network at any time
Dashboards To create: Right click on Model Group New > Dashboard Group Right click on Dashboard Group New > Dashboard
SQL Pipe Length
Dashboard Output
Additional Widgets
SQL Pipe Material
Dashboards Live Data Live Data Configuration object
SQL Summaries in a polygon It is possible to summarise asset information or
simulation results based on a polygon loaded as a background layer i.e. it does not need to be in the IWWS network
Steps: Open the network/results you want to analyse Load in the Background Layer Create a new SQL Group Create the first SQL Query name it 01 - Create the second SQL Query name it 02 - Run the SQL Group by dragging it onto the network
First SQL Query Will create a temporary field for each
customer point identifying which polygon they are in
Second SQL Query
Ave, Max, Min
Query Groups
Grid Views Change which columns are displayed Freeze column(s)
Grid Views Resize column widths Hide unwanted / empty columns
Changing Grid Views Grid (menu) Save as Default Layout if you are finish
customising the grid view
Grid Views Applicable to Grid Results too!
Grid Views Create/ Edit geoplan themes via Grid views
Comparing results using themes Possible to open two sets of results on top of
each other Process:
Open the first set of results Right click on the second set and choose Open As Choose As Alternate Results for Comparison
Create the theme Create a theme to compare the differences
between the two sets of results In this example we have isolated a pipe and
are comparing node pressure difference
Comparing results using themes
Create the theme
Play through the results
Play through the results
Tooltips Descriptive text box that appears when the
mouse pointer is held over a tool, button or other object
Used to display useful information when an object is hovered over in the GeoPlan
User definable
Tooltip Fields
Tooltip Output
Results Manager Right-click on the Master Database or
Catchment group > Open Results Manager

CS to ICM Dont need a dongle to open CS Admin So if all of your networks are CHECKED IN
you will be able to convert them without an IWCS dongle
There is NO administrator program for ICM
Missing Data To find missing data: Grid views
Missing Data To find missing data: SQL Queries
conduit_width = NULL OR conduit_width = 0
Missing Data
To fix missing data: Inference (make sure you flag it!)

Pipes drawn in wrong direction Find these using upstream and downstream
trace tools
Pipes drawn in wrong direction To fix: Pipe Direction Tool Reverse Selected Links
Reverse Selected Links
Negative Gradients Find these Using Grid views
Negative Gradients Or SQL Queries
Soffits/Inverts above ground level
Validation
Double click on the code to go to grid view Also selects the link in the GeoPlan
On a Long Section
Can use an SQL Query (with care)
Need to consider the chamber floor levels
Apply Filter To Current Selection VERY IMPORTANT
Can also set a flag
Result
Downstream reduction in pipe diameter
Overlaying Pipes Engineering Validation
Validation Output
Can occur where the pipe has a sleeve it is in to protect it and the pipe and the sleeve are in the model as two separate pipes
More Engineering Validation Pipe Dimension Minimum & Maximum
Pipe Gradient Minimum & Maximum
Pipe Backdrop maximum difference between DS & US pipe invert levels
Pipe Invert Level Minimum & Maximum depth below ground level
Bifurcation node has more than 1 outgoing link
Commit History For the entire network Right click on network > Show commit history
Commit History
Commit History
Commit History For each object In the properties window:
Commit History
Compare Networks
GeoPlan Properties Make objects unselectable
Make Objects Unselectable
Spatial Bookmarks
User Text / Number / Date Headings
Comparing results on long sections Possible to see a secondary water level on a long section Need to have Alternate Results for Comparison open
Use ICM 2D to model flooding due to large leak / pipe break
ICM 32 bit & 64 bit Cant use old style network dongles with 64
bit ICM Installing 64 bit ICM puts a shortcut for a 32
bit interface and a 64 bit interface on the desktop
The engine in this case is still 64 bit
