Sit up high to see as much of the upcoming terrain as possible. Nothing is worse
than hitting a rough patch unprepared.
Engage all-wheel drive or switch to a center differential as soon as you reach the trail.
This adds another set of gears the engine power must go through, slowing down your
wheels. Sounds boring, but this is what allows you to have more steady power to climb
over things like boulders.
Bring tow-straps and floor mats in case you get stuck. For less serious jams, placing
high-traction mats under each tire can get you out of a bind.
This is the greatest incline a vehicle can travel over without hitting any part
against the terrain. Knowing this will prevent you from damaging your vehicle.
