• Prerequisite training: analyze what knowledge, skills and abilities we can reasonably
recruit for. Call this factor P.
• Resident training: analyze how resident training can be modified to reduce training
time. Call this factor R.
• Unit training: analyze what training could reasonably be transferred to the unit.
Call this factor U.
• Self development training: analyze what training that Soldiers could learn on their
own. Call this factor S.
• An acceptable solution will be one in which 33 weeks (training requirement) minus P
minus R minus U minus S is less than or equal to 20 weeks (max affordable resident
training).
Zero Growth Example
Discussion: MOS qualification is the sum of prerequisite training and resident AIT
training. So any training placed in factors U and S cannot be considered as
MOSQ training. What should we consider?
Discussion: SGM study group recommended that unit training (U) be no more
than 6 weeks. Is this the right length?
33 – P – R – U – S ≤ 20
