    Tuloy Pasko sa evac centers

A NEW AND GLORIOUSMORNMAGBUBUKANG-liwayway pero maaaninag pa rin ang mga parol naisinabit sa mga puno sa paligid ng kapitolyo ng Davao City. Dalawangtulog na lang Pasko na. BING GONZALES

Naway turuan Nyo silang mag-

ing bahagi ng buhay ng iba. Amen (Elen Raton)

My children who are not mine

blurted out that her dad wasthe one who paid for herschooling, that I miserablyfailed when I was studying, thatI squandered all my husbandsmoney and had not saved any-thing for their future. I wasswept away by an unbearablerage and I slapped her face. Itook courage to confront myhusband but it shocked me to

hear the same things from him.Everything changed from that

day and I never had peace andhappiness in my life. I miserablyand helplessly bore the angerand coldness of my husband andchildren until 1998 when Imade the heart-breaking deci-sion of leaving our family houseand living with my mother.

I learned that my eldest gotmarried a few months ago. I

was happy for her but weptmiserably for myself. I had not

witnessed her walking at the al-tar which to all mothers shouldbe one of the most beautifulmemories of her child. I won-

dered what went wrong. Now, I live each day bearing

the agony of my motherhood, waiting for that moment when Icould let go of this pain. All mylife, I have loved my children.Theres nothing in the world I

would not have done for theirsake. One day I poured out my-self to my ultimate recourse whois God and He understood me.My children, they are no longermine, but they will forever be

etched in my heart no matterwhat happens. I now believethat anyone could be a perfectmother for as long as you loveand sacrifice for your children.Children may forget their moth-ers, but no mother could forsakeand forget her child.

May God richly bless youmore for touching peoples livesand hearts.

    Patricia

DEAR Patricia,I may not fully understand howwomen think but I am totallyconvinced that it is a most diffi-cult job to be a wife and a fulltime mother. Some envy women

who just stay at home but theydo not understand how hard it isto fulfill the duties of a responsi-ble mother and an ideal wife.

I know that a lot of parentscome to a point when they startasking themselves where theyhave gone wrong. Sometimes, nomatter how hard we try to moldour children to become responsi-ble and loving adults, they stillturn out to be the kind of personsthat we dont want them to be.

Patricia, you havent doneanything wrong. You just lovedand gave too much. Each day,

you feel that your children aredrifting farther away from youand it cuts your heart in pieces.

But did you know that you haveplanted in their hearts the seedof your love? That seed wouldone day grow and bear fruit.

I hope that your children willhear you Patricia.

DEAR Joe,Many months ago, I read a story from a book and the ti-tle caught me: Help WantedThe Ideal Mother. I askedmyself if there was such a person and I had no answer.Id like to now share with you my heart as a mother.

I am Patricia, a 45-year-oldmother of three. I was 19 when Istopped studying because I gotpregnant by my boyfriend, a resi-dent doctor 20 my senior. BeforeI delivered my second baby Imanaged to graduate from col-lege. In 1978, my husband wentto the US for further studies andgot a fruitful job there. We lived

apart, with him earning a lot ofmoney and me taking good careof my children. I loved my chil-dren, tried to be the best motherthat I could be and gave every-thing that money could buy. Istopped working to give them allmy time. When I was 33, I gavebirth to another baby girl. Thepressures of motherhood hadbeen on my shoulders but myhusband never appreciated it. He

went home once in a while, hard-ly spent time with his children, and never saw them grow up. Hehas been a good provider but nota good father and husband.

In 1991, my husband re-turned to the Philippines. Hehad a difficult time dealing withhis children because he was tooold for them. He spoiled them

and never disciplined them. Inever realized that my husbandcould reshape the minds of mychildren differently.
