33. Top 20 Military Electro Optical Infrared (EO/IR) Technology
Companies 2014: Competitive Landscape Analysis 6. Expert Opinion
6.1 Cassidian Optronics GmbH Cassidian Optronics GmbH, formerly
Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH, offers an optic and optronic product
portfolio with applications ranging from maritime, through land and
air to space. Within the future Airbus Defence and Space, which
will be formed in January 2014 from Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus
Military, it will be responsible for the Optronics Cluster. This
will consist of the following business divisions: Cassidian
Optronics Pty Ltd in South Africa, Optronbras in Brazil, the joint
venture LnZ Optronics in South Korea, the optronic part of the
SCAFSE joint venture in Algeria and the Hensoldt product line as
well as other optronic units within Airbus Defense and Space.
Further sites are operated in India and in the USA. Within this
overall framework, the company employs more than 1,000 personnel
and generates turnovers of several hundred million euros.
Visiongains questions were answered by Jrg Pla, Director of
Strategy and Communications at Cassidian Optronics GmbH. Visiongain
thanks him for his contribution. 6.1.1 Broad Portfolio of
Electro-Optical Infrared Sensor Solutions Visiongain: How do
electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) systems fit into Airbus Defence
and Spaces organisation? Jrg Pla: Airbus Defence and Space will be
a global market leader in the defence and space industry. The core
business comprises aerospace, but also reaches into many other
areas of security and defence within the scope of system
capability. Comprehensive capabilities at the system and subsystem
levels are essential and accordingly an enabler for this business.
A broad portfolio of sensor solutions originates from Airbus
Defence and Space itself and is of the utmost interest in view of
the creation of custom-made offers. Whether satellite, aircraft,
helicopter or large frontier monitoring installations,
electro-optic sensors are in use everywhere. In this respect we fit
very well into the Airbus Group overall. 6.1.2 Electro-Optical
Infrared Products for Defence, Security and Civil Markets
Visiongain: What products and services does Cassidian Optronics
GmbH offer? And which markets does it operate in? Jrg Pla:
Cassidian Optronics offers EO/IR products in three main market
segments: defence, security and civil. Our EO/IR sensors are
integrated in all kind of systems. We offer our products
