Witchcraftstillexistsaroundtheworldtoday

butpracticesmaydifferfromcultureto

culture.Longagopeoplewhopracticed

witchcraftwerethoughttobeevilpeoplewho

wantedtoharmothersbycausingaccidents,

illnessandsometimesdeath. Peoplebecame

anxiousaboutwitchcraftinEuropeduringthe

1500sandthisstartedupawitchhunt. Many

victimsofthishunt,mainlyfemale,wereoften

accusedinthewrongofpracticingwitchcraft

andtheyweretorturedandbanishedor

executed.Todaywhenwethinkofwitches,wethinkof
