1) Who wrote the Ten Commandments (Exodus 31:18, 32:16)? (00:01:25)

These Commandments must be very important, because they are the only thing in the first five books of Scripture that God Himself wrote with His own hand.

2) Where did God tell Moses to put the Ten Commandments (Deuteronomy 10:2)? (00:02:45)

This fact will prove to be important later on.

3) How does sin relate to the Ten Commandments (1 John 3:4)? (00:03:20)

Whosoever committeth ______ ____________ also the law, for _____ is the ______________ of the ______.

4) According to Romans 4:15, when is there no transgression? (00:04:22)

Is there still transgression in the world today? Absolutely. Therefore, the law of God is still binding upon humanity.

5) What is the cost of transgressing the law in terms of our life and our relationships?

Romans 6:23: (00:05:35)

Isaiah 59:2: (00:06:08)

6) How is this sin problem resolved?

Romans 3:31: (00:14:15)

Romans 6:23: (00:6:45)

Ephesians 2:8-9: (00:9:15)

Every person deserves death, but Christ came to give us the gift of eternal life. No one will ever be in heaven because of what they did. They will only be there because of what Christ did for them. The law does not save us, it is only a means of showing us what is right and wrong.

7) Should we sin because we are no longer under the condemnation of the law (Romans 6:14-15)? (00:10:05)

God’s grace is not a license to sin. Rather, grace teaches us to live a holy life in an unholy world (see Titus 2:11-14).

8) What is the purpose of the law? Romans 3:20: (00:13:40)

Romans 7:12: (00:15:15)

9) When Adam and Eve first sinned, what did God do about it (Genesis 3:21)? (00:16:05)

God is the only one who is able to deal with sin. The skins that God gave Adam and Eve to clothe them represent the righteousness of Christ, and that righteousness is only made possible through His perfect life and substitutionary death. By faith, the hopeless sinner becomes an heir.

10) Who wrote the ceremonial law, and where was it placed (Deuteronomy 31:24-26)? (00:17:20)

Remember that the moral law, the Ten Commandments, was written on stone by the finger of God, and placed inside the Ark of the Covenant. Moses wrote the ceremonial law in a book and placed it beside the Ark. These are two distinct laws.

11) When did the Ten Commandments come into existence? Did the law only arise at Mt. Sinai with Moses (Genesis 4:7, 26:5)? (00:24:00)

If sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4), then there must have been a law since the birth of humanity, for Adam and Eve sinned, as did their sons.

12) But didn’t Jesus come to free us from the law (Matthew 5:17-18)? (00:24:55)

The TWO LAWS

# 203

The Nature of the Two Laws

The royal law, the law of liberty (James 2:8, 12).

Written with the finger of God on stone

(Exodus 31:18, 32:16).

Placed inside the Ark of the Covernant (Deuteronomy

10:5, 1 Kings 8:9).

Existed before sin (1 John 3:4; Romans 4:15, 5:13).

Purpose to reveal sin (Romans 3:20, 7:7)

Stands forever (Psalm 111:7-8).

Moral Law of Ten Commandments

The law of commandments and ordinances (Ephesians

2:15; Hebrews 9:10).

Written by Moses in the “Book of the Law” (Deuteronomy 31:24).

Placed beside the Ark of the Covenant (Deuteronomy

31:26

Given after sin (Galatians 3:19).

Purpose to reveal the remedy for sin (Leviticus 6:1-7; John

7:29).

Temporary (Matthew 27:51).

13) How do we show our love toward God?

John 14:15:

John 15:10:

1 John 5:3: (00:26:22)

Hebrews 5:9: (00:27:25)

God has given us a reasonable and just way to show him our love. He does not ask for us to perform painful acts of penance or make a display of emotionalism. All He asks is for obedience. Once we get to know Christ, obedience to Him becomes a joy rather than a duty.

14) What is the purpose of the ceremonial law (Galatians 3:19)? (00:28:50)

The Symbolic SANCTUARY15) Why did God want the Children of Israel to build the sanctuary (Exodus 25:8)? (00:31:25)

16) What was this earthly sanctuary patterned after (Hebrews 8:5, 9:24)? (00:31:40)

17) Who ultimately did the earthly sanctuary represent? (00:37:30)

Numbers 1:51-53

John 1:14

In the same way that the tabernacle was pitched among the people, Christ came and dwelt among the people. Every article of furniture and every single thread in the sanctuary represented Jesus.

18) When a person sinned in Old Testament times, what were they to do (Leviticus 4:27-31)? (00:41:20)

19) How does this ancient practice relate to Jesus (John 1:29)? (00:42:50)

20) What is Jesus doing now (1 John 2:1)? (00:43:50)

Jesus is serving as the Advocate of humanity in the heavenly sanctuary.

21) What is Jesus ready to do as He serves as our Advocate?

Psalm 86:5

Psalm 103:12

1 John 1:9

Jesus does not withhold forgiveness from us when we ask. This gift of forgiveness is ours for the asking, no matter who we are or what we have done!

22) Why did Jesus Have to die (Isaiah 53:5)? (00:44:30)

Sin, the breaking of God’s law, demands justice. Jesus paid the price to satisfy that justice for the entire world. He died for you. Will you accept His gift to you and make Him your Saviour?

23) What furniture was in the Holy Place (Hebrews 9:2)? (00:45:50)

24) What did the candlestick represent (John 8:12)? (00:47:35)

25) What did the incense that rose from the Holy Place represent (Revelation 8:4)? (00:447:50)

26) What did the shewbread in the Holy Place represent (John 6:51)? (00:48:25)

27) What is the next chamber of the sanctuary (Hebrews 9:3)? (00:50:00)

The Most Holy Place is the focal point of the entire sanctuary.

# 203

28) What was inside the Most Holy Place (Hebrews 9:4)?

The golden censor sat in the Holy Place, but the incense wafted over the veil into the Most Holy Place. What does this fact tell us about prayer? Prayer is the means by which we can draw closest to God.

29) Who in this world has great peace according to Psalm 119:165? (00:56:15)

If you want great peace in this world, take God at His Word. Get to know Him, learn to trust Him, delight in obeying Him, and even though you will have hardships, you will know that He who has overcome the world is living in you.

30) Do we need to go to an earthly priest for forgiveness?

Hebrews 4:14: (00:56:55)

Hebrews 8:1-2: (00:57:02)

31) How did Jesus become our High Priest (Hebrews 9:11-12)? (00:57:30)

The only way Jesus could buy the right to forgive us was to die for us. The Bible says He entered into the Holy Place not by the blood of an animal, but by His own precious blood.

32) What happened to the earthly sanctuary when Christ died?

Matthew 27:50-51: (00:57:45)

Hebrews 10:19-20: (00:58:20)

Jesus’ death put an end to the sacrificial system of offerings. Note that the veil was ripped from top to bottom. It was God Himself who tore that veil, showing that God made a way to Himself: Jesus Christ. Forgiveness is ours not by slaying a lamb but by simply confessing our sins to God.

33) Who is Christ able to save (Hebrews 7:25)? (00:59:25)

The only sin Christ cannot forgive is the sin that is not confessed.

34) How often did the high priest go into the Most Holy Place (Hebrews 9:7)? (01:03:20)

35) What is the good news of the judgment?

Leviticus 16:30: (01:03:30)

Isaiah 1:18: (01:05:50)

1 John 1:9: (01:06:00)

The Judgment is not scary for those whose sins have been forgiven by God. Five times in the book of Psalms, David cried, “judge me!” To the Christian, the Judgment is a day of acquittal and deliverance.

36) When will the heavenly sanctuary be cleansed (Daniel 8:14)? (01:06:50)

This verse will prove to be of great importance in a later study.

The JUDGMENT

37) Who will be judged (2 Corinthians 5:10)? (01:07:45)

38) What is the standard of judgment?

James 2:10-12: (01:09:25)

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14: (01:09:40)

The moral law of Ten Commandments will be the standard used in the Judgment. Every single person has broken the commandments, so without Christ it is a hopeless situation. But Jesus lived a perfect live and when we accept Him, His righteous life is put on to our accounts.

39) In light of all these facts, how must we live our lives (1 John 3:21-22)? (01:10:07)

My DECISION For Jesus

As you see the enormity of your sins, and the utter hopelessness of facing the Judgment alone, why not accept Christ to be your Advocate? Is it your desire to live your life empowered by His grace and to walk in obedience to his law?
