DonHuber: Right.Atleastit'samajorincentive.NowI'vebeensharingmyresearchonglyphosateandtheGMOcropsforprobably15yearsbeforeIretired.Itwasn'tuntilmylettertoSecretaryofAG,Vilsackwasleakedtothepublic,itwasveryconfidentialletterthatIwrotewhenIwaschairmanoftheUSDANPDRScommitteeastheAPSrepresentativeinthatpositionandIwassayingsomethingsthatwerepresentingsomeveryseriouspotentialconsequencesforusasfarasthreatstoouragriculture.
Otherswereseeingthemawholesole,they'reseeingthemindifferentareas.Ifeltcompelledtowritethatletter.Iguessinsomerespectswouldapologizeforthelanguagethatitwaswrittenin,becauseitwaswrittentoapoliticianwiththeanticipationthatthatletterwouldbeshippedovertotheriskmanagementpeopleandthenIwouldbeabletosharethedetailsandtheseriousnessoftheconcern.
Oncethatletterwasleakedtothepublic,itwentviralandthatprovidedtheopportunitythenformetobealittlemoreopeninsharing.IfeltobligatedtowriteasecondopenlettertothepublictoexplainwhyIhadwrittenthefirstonetothesecretaryandeverythinghasjustexpandedfromthatpoint.

commodityboardsthatwereallydon'thaveanygoodideaofwholeakedit.
DaveAsprey: Whatwasthecontentforpeoplelisteningwhohaven'tseenit,whatdoesthelettersay?
DonHuber: ThatwasaletteralertingthesecretarytoconcernsthatwehadasfarasthederegulationofRoundupReadyalfalfa.Ifwhathappenstoalfalfafollowswhathappentoderegulationofroundupreadycorn.Thenwecouldveryeasilyloseourfourthmosteconomiccrop,ournumberoneforagecropinthecountrytoaplantdiseasethatweconsiderratherinnocuousbecausewehaveveryexcellentresistance,geneticresistancetothatdisease.
Theproblemiswhenyouapplyrounduptoit,aswefindwithsomeofourroundupreadycropsthatthenthatdiseasebecomesveryintensebecausetheroundupwillnullifythegeneticresistance.Incornforinstancein2012,welost1billionbushelofcorntoadiseasethatweconsideredaverywimpydiseaseofnosignificanteconomicconsequencesthroughoutthecornbelt,andthat'sGoss'sWilt.

DaveAsprey: GoodGod.Ithinkofthehabitatdestructionthathappenedtomakeallofthat.There'snoanimalslivingthere,there'snograsses,there'sjustnothingbutplowedbasicallysterilizedsoilwithnofoodtoshowforit.
DonHuber: Thatdiseasehascontinuedtospread30yearsago.Itwaslimitedtosixorsevencounties,EasternNebraskaandWesternIowa,it'snowanywhereinNorthAmericaandanywhereintheworld.Wehaveshippedcontaminatedseed.Thatdiseasehastakenoverbecausewe'veincreasedthevirulenceandwe'vereducedtheresistanceofthecrop.There'sasistertothatsamebacteriumthatattacksalfalfa,andwe'reonlyabletogrowalfalfaeconomicallyatleastbecausewehavegeneticresistancetothatparticulardisease.
IfglyphosateapplicationsdothesamethingtoalfalfainnullifyingthatgeneticresistancelikeitdoesincorntoGoss'sWilt,thenthatcropisinseriousjeopardy,andouragriculturaleconomicsfromananimalproductionstandpointcouldbeverysevere.Iaskedthesecretarytheninthatlettertodotheresearchbeforethederegulationbecausenoonehadlookedatit,noonehadevenconsideredthataspectbutthatwasinthepositionthatIwasin,thatwasaresponsibilitythatIhad,wastonotifythesecretaryandotherpeopleandthatwasthepurposeoftheletter.

Knowingthathepersonallywouldn'tbeaddressingthat,butcertainlyriskmanagement

DonHuber: Thatwasaseriousconcernforme.Therewerefourpointsinthatletterbutthatwasamajorone,I'maskingthesecretarytodelayderegulationbeforewehadtheresearchtoconfirmthatthatwasinthebestinterestofouragriculturalproduction.
DaveAsprey: You'resittinginthispositionwhereyourealizethatwehaveamajorthreattoourfoodsecurityandonethatstillmaycometopassandthatwedon'thaveappropriateoversight,basicallycompaniesaregoingtosellwhatthey'regoingtosellbecausethey'regoingtomakemoneyonit.Mostofthemdoesn'thaveaverygoodtrackrecordofwatchingoutforanyonebuttheirowninterest.Ithinkthat'sprettywellestablishedatthispoint.
Therearetwodifferentissuesthatcometogetherhere.OneisyousaidGMOsarethebiggestscientificfraudsincethePiltdownManwhichisamajoraccusationandthenyouhaveanotherthing,glyphosatesaltisbadforsoilandbadforpeople,andthey'reseparateissuesbecauseyoucanuseglyphosatewithoutGMOs,andyoucanuseGMOswithoutroundup.
Let'stalkfirstaboutglyphosateandroundupandthenlet'stalkaboutGMOswithorwithoutglyphosatebecauseIwanttounderstand,givenyourverydeepexperienceinthefieldwhyyoufeelthatwayaboutGMOsapartfromglyphosate.Whatisglyphosateforpeoplelisteningwhodon'tunderstanditverywell,whatareitsmechanismsofactionsandwhyshouldwepayattentiontoit,whydoesitmatter?
DonHuber: Glyphosateisaveryuniquechemical.ItwasinventedbyJimChanginSanFranciscowhenforStaufferChemicalcompany,theyhadthepatentonitandtheypatenteditin1964asaverystrongmineralstrongmineralchelator.Achelatorisacompoundthatcangrabontoanotherelement,changeitsphysicalcharacteristicswithoutbecomingapartofthat

element.It'sachelator,weusechelatorsquiteabitinagricultureandinotherareastoincreasesolubilityofchemicals.
Weusethemtomovemineralsandchemicalsacrosstheplantmemory.Inthecaseofallofourherbicides,allofourweedkillersareallmineralchelatorsthatwillimmobilizeaparticularnutrient.Nowmostofthemfairlyspecificwithglyphosateandalsoglufosinate,libertywouldbeacommonnameforglufosinate,they'resistercompounds.AllunderthepatentoftheJimChanghadaschelatorsorminerals.
Theyimmobilizethosemineralssothey'renolongeravailablelandforthephysiologicalfunctionsthattheyregulateintheplant.It'sourminerals,manganese,copper,iron,zinc,thosemineralsthatmakeourenzymeswork.Ifyouwanttoshutdownanenzymesystem,youmerrilyimmobilizethatmineralthatistheco-factororthecatalystandregulatorofthatparticularfunction.
I'velikenedthistohavinga200horsepowerengineinyourcar,itcangetyouupto60milesanhourinahurry,youcando,travellongdistancewithit,butitdoesn'tdoanythinguntilyouturnthekeyon.Whatthesemineralsdoespeciallyourmicro-nutrientsisthatthey'rethekeyandwiththeherbicidewithsomethinglikeglyphosateoranyofourherbicides.
Theypullthekeyoutoftheignition,inotherwords,theymakethatmineralsolid,itcannolongerfitintheslotthatwouldactivatethatenzyme.Youhavethispowerfulenginethat'sjustapieceofsteeloutthereoraluminumorwhatnot.Untilyouturnthekeyon.Toshutdownthosephysiologicsystems,weusechelatorsthatimmobilizethoseenzymesandturnthesystemoff.Glyphosateisuniqueandit'saverybroadspectrumchelator.
Itimmobilizesiron,copper,zinc,manganese,cobalt,nickel,anyoftheions,calciumandmagnesium.Mostofourresidesarefairlynarrowspectrumchelators.WhenJimChangpatentedglyphosateasachelatorin1964itwasprimarilyusedtocleanboiler,becauseitwassuchastrongchelatorespeciallyforcalciumandmagnesiumandironthatyougetscalebuiltupfrom.
10yearslater,Monsatorealizedwellthisseemsaverybroadspectrumpowerfulchelatorthatshutsdownplantsystems,andtheypatentitasanherbicidesothatit'saverybroadspectrumherbicide,essentiallykilledeverything.That'swherethegeneticengineeringcomesinbecausetheyengineeredaplantthatcouldtoleratetheglyphosatehasabacterialgene,thatisn'tsensitivetoglyphosateoritrequiresadifferentmineralelementthatisn'tchelatedortotallyimmobilizedbyglyphosate.
Itkeepsfunctioningsoyoucannowapplyglyphosatedirectlytothoseplantsthatareprotectedbecauseofthebacterialgenesthathavebeenputin.Thewholeprogramtherewithglyphosateisthatithasmulti-functions.It'saveryuniquecompoundagain.In2000,theypatentedasabroadspectrumantibiotic.Thisantibioticisbeingappliedindiscriminatelyinoursociety,inourenvironment,essentiallyatthetuneofabout300millionpoundsayear.

Wherewe'reconcernedaboutantibioticresistanceofthetetracyclineorpenicillinand
thosearealltargetedapplicationsnotgeneralapplicationslikewe'reusingglyphosateandweonlyuse29millionpounds.Togetexcitedaboutantibioticresistance,thefirstthingweshouldbeaddressingisglyphosate,verybroadspectrumpowerfulantibiotic.
Theotherthingisthatglyphosateis,youmightsayafalseaminoacid.Aminoacidsarethebuildingblocksforourproteins.Forpeptidesandproteinsandthosenitrogenmaterialsthatwerelyonforenzymesandotherfunctions,thattheglyphosateasaglycineaminoacidanalog.Alsohastheabilitytodisruptactuallythestructuralcompositionbyreplacingthenormalaminoacidwiththesyntheticaminoacidtodisruptthephysiologicalfunctionsinanimalsaswellasinplant.
DaveAsprey: PeoplewhoarelongtimelistenerstoBulletproofRadioknowthatI'mahugefanofcollagen.Imanufactureagrass-fedcollagenpeptide,andoneofthebigreasonsIusecollagenisbecauseit'sfullofglycineaminoacid,andthatisthenaturalaminoacid.Ididnotknowuntilyoujusttoldmethoughthatroundupcouldactasbasicallysyntheticglycine,youbuildbrokencollagenconnectivetissueinyourbodyifyou'reexposedtorounduporatleastyoucoulddothat.
DonHuber: Yes.Itwoulddisruptthatstructureorcompositionofthecollagen,andnotonlythat,it'sprobablygoingtohaveanevengreatereffectasachelatorforthoseenzymesthatgiveyoutheopportunitytobuildthatcollagentostartwith,butthenyouwouldhaveafalsecollagenoradefectivecollageninthatsystemwhereyouhaveglyphosatepresent.Youmentionedthecollagenandbones,that'soneoftheareaswhereglyphosateaccumulatesinthebody.
DaveAsprey: Wow.Thisistotallynewstome.I'vereadquitealotabouttheresearchonthis,butIdidn'tunderstandthat.Ifyoulookattheotherplaceswherecollagenisimportant,stretchmarks.Youwanttofixstretchmarks.Here'sthedeal,havingorganicagriculturemightbeagoodideaifyoudon'twantbadbones,andbadstretchmarks.

Thosethreewillmakeupyourimmunesystem.Yourglutathioneistherightpowerfulantioxidant.Youdeprivethebodythenofsomegreatcriticalelements.Asaconsequence,thenthoseorganismsinthegutareinsensitivetoglyphosatetakeover.Wedon'thaveanyroidsofnature.That'llbesomethingthat'llcomeinandfillthatvoidveryquickly.Theonesthatfillthevoidaretheclostridialspecies,youre.coli,yourdysteria,yoursalmonellabecausetheyhaveanalternatetypeofmetabolismthatisn'tshutdownbyglyphosate.
They'reabletotakeover.Weseeahugeincreaseindifficilediarrheaforinstanceareinchronicfatiguesyndromewhichisclostridiumbotulinum.Youseetheleakygutfromclostridiumperfringens.Allofthesearejustthemanifestationofthepowerofglyphosateineliminatingallofthosenaturalbarriersandnaturalbiologicalcontrolsthatweusedtohavebuiltintooursystemthatarenowtakenoutbecauseofthisantibioticactivityofthisherbicide.

Hundredsoftimesmorethanweknowbreaksus.
DonHuber: Well,therearelawsuitsgoingonnowfornon-Hodgkin'sleukemiahasbeenquitewellestablishedscientifically.Parkinson'sdiseaseisanotheronethat'sbeenwellestablished.Partoftheproblemisthattheresearchthatshouldhavebeendone35yearsagoonsafetyhasneverbeendone.YoulookatthesafetyteststhatweresubmittedtotheEPA.
Youfindevenasrecentlyas2014andastudythatwassubmitted.Thecontrolratshad118partspermillionglyphosateintheirfeed,theyalsowereloadedwithGMOproteins,andyetthetestwastoestablishthesafetyofGMOsandtheherbicidalchemicals.Ofcoursetheendproductofthatwasthey'resubstantiallyequivalentbecausewasn'titlargedifferencesbetweenthetwogroupsofanimals.
Well,thetwogroupsofanimalfromthescientificstandpointwerefedthesamething.Thereshouldn'thavebeenscientificdifference,butSteveDrukerinhisbookAlteredGenes,TwistedTruthhasdocumentedthatthisisprobablythegreatestscientificfraudwe'veeverhadsincetheNeanderthalman.
