You (Alone) we worship and You (Alone) we ask for help i.e. we single You out with worship, hence we worship none other than You. And we single You out with the seeking of help. This is the pure Tawheed, in knowledge and actions. {You Alone we worship and You Alone we ask for help}. The whole religion summarized in this verse.

The verse comprises of two things: 1. Disassociating from shirk. 2. Disassociating from authority, might and power except that of Allah the Almighty.

{You Alone we worship.}

The purpose of the creation of jinn and mankind is ‘Ibadah (worship). Allah the Almighty says: {And I (Allah) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)} [51: 56] He sent all Prophets with one sole purpose; worshiping Allah and avoiding shirk. Allah the Almighty says: {And verily, We have sent among every Ummah a Messenger (proclaiming): “”Worship Allah and avoid Taghut.} [16: 36] In the Holy Quran, the very first direct command, as per the order of Al-Fatiha, Al-Baqarah ... is the command to worship Allah and avoiding shirk. He says: {O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), Who created you and those who were before you so that you may become pious.} [2: 21] This command is revealed to the whole of humanity, all human beings, all people. {O mankind! Worship your Lord (Al-lah)}. The reality of ‘Ibadah is submissiveness and surrendering to Allah the Almighty. And ‘Ibadah is obeying Allah the Almighty by following what He has commanded through His Messengers. The general definition of ‘Ibadah: A comprehensive term of all which are loved and appreciated by Allah, including sayings and actions; apparent and hidden. By this definition, the reality of ‘Ibadah is sub-mitting all aspects of one’s life to the Orders and commands of Allah, Wahyi, Quran and Sunnah. The Shari’ah should be dominating our deeds, conducts and manhaj, all these should be submitted to Allah the Almighty.This is how ‘Ibadah becomes solely for Allah’s sake. Allah says:{Say (O Muhammad): “”Truly my Lord has guided me to a Straight Path, a right religion, the religion of Ibrahim, Haniifa (the Islamic Tawheed) and he was not of Al-Mushrikiin (polytheists).”” Say: “Verily, my Salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.”} So this is an order from Allah the Exalted. “And of this I have been command-

ed.” What is being commanded here? To dedicate the whole life and death to be for the Sake of Allah. {Say (O Muhammad): “Verily, my Salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. He has no partner. .”}

There is no portion for anyone else, no portion for anyone in your life, nor in your projects, nor in your conduct. All these should be for the Sake of Allah the Almighty Alone. And death too will not be except in what Allah the Almighty loves and is pleased with. {Say (O Muhammad): Verily, my Salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.} The first to take the first step, the first to execute (the order), the first to abide, the first to hasten towards what Allah loves and is pleased with.

Life being for the Sake of Allah the Almighty cannot be achieved except by reforming the niyyah (in-tention) and ‘amal (deeds). It is essential that both the niyyah and ‘amal are reformed. Reforming the niyyah is to make your intention solely for the Sake of Allah and the Hereafter. Allah the Almighty says: {That home of the Hereafter (Paradise), We shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the Al-Mut-taqiin.} [28: 83] They do not want high status on this Earth, they do not want a place on this Earth. They do not want to hold dominion over this Earth. What they really want is that the Rule of Allah the Almighty be above all. My goal is not to submit you to my dominion or under my rule, No! but rather the goal is for the all of humanity to be under the Rule of Allah the Almighty. Therefore, the real issue is not the struggle for power, but (we struggle) so that the Rule and Deen of Allah be imposed on everyone. This is the reform needed for the niyyah.

As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed. Worshiping Allah the way He wants, not the way one desires. Imam Ash-Shaatiby - may Allah be pleased with him - said in Al-Muwaafaqaat (2/153) arguing in the subject of worshiping and submission to Allah the Almighty, and the lack of evading the Shari’ah Law and Rules: He said “The purpose Allah the Almighty laid Shari’ah is to bring Al-Mukallaf (the obligated) out of following de-sires so that he becomes a Slave of Allah.” So we worship Allah as He wants and not according to our desires. We execute the Orders of Allah the Almighty, we do not follow our lust and desire. Following the desire conflicts with accomplishing worshiping Allah. Either you follow your desire or follow Shari’ah. Either the Law of Allah or lust.

In summary, there are two ways of following desire:

First: Following desire by turning away from the Shari’ah rulings.One follows lust and abandon all of the Shari’ah. He evades it completely. He does not want to abide by Shari’ah at all. He does not submit to Shari’ah, nor does he submit to Allah nor his Wahyi (revelation). Allah the Almighty says: {Have you seen him who has taken as ilah (god) his own vain desire? Would you then be a Wakiil (a disposer of his affairs) over him? Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle - nay, they are even farther astray from the Path.} [25: 43-44] This is the first way of following desire, evading Shari’ah and Wahyi and avoiding deen while following desire.

Second: Following desire when dealing with the Shari’ah rulings.He walks on the Shari’ah of Allah the Almighty but when dealing with texts (Quran and Hadeeth) he manipulates them to suit his desire. He manipulates the Shari’ah text by changing its meaning and not changing the text itself. So he alters the meaning of the text and its rulings. Allah says: {So as for

those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials), and seeking for its hidden meaning.} [3: 7] This group abides by Shari’ah, walks on this deen but manipulates texts to suite with its desire. This results to bid’a (innova-tions), violation of Shari’ah and many other things that contradict with the Shari’ah. All this is caused by following desire when dealing with the Shari’ah texts.

{You Alone we ask for help.} We ask for help, support and tawfeeq from Allah Alone. singling Him out in seeking help.

Al-Isti’ana (seeking help): Depending on Allah the Almighty in gaining benefits and repelling evil, while having trust in Allah. There is one thing that many people fall into; separating Al-Isti’ana from worshiping. You may see one making Isti’ana: Asking Allah for help in the search for provision. Ask-ing Allah for help in the search for daily bread, to be freed from worldly tension, to solve some of our problems. While the (forgeting) the basic (of seeking) help is to ask Allah the Almighty for help in fol-lowing His Orders, implementing the Shari’ah rulings and to ask Allah for help in achieving worship-ing Him. That is why the Prophet peace be upon him taught Mu’adh bin Jabal - may Allah be pleased with him, he said: “O Mu’adh. Wallahi I love you, so do not forget to supplicate after every prayer: O Allah help me in remembering You, thanking You and improve in worshiping You.”

The Prophet peace be upon him teaches the Swahaba - may Allah be pleased with them - to ask Al-lah to help them in carrying out Shari’ah commandments. “O Allah help me in remembering You, thanking You and improve in worshiping You.” We rely on Allah the Exalted on carrying out His Commands.We ask Allah for help in carrying out His commandments. Ibnu Taymiyyah - may Allah have mercy on him - said: I reflected on the most useful du’aa (supplication) and I found it to be asking (Him the Almighty) to help you to please Him (the Exalted) i.e. the slave asking his Lord to help him to please Him the Exalted. He said: I reflected on the most useful du’aa (supplication) and I found it to be asking (Him the Almighty) to help you to please Him (the Exalted). Then I saw it (du’aa) in Suratul Fatihah in the verse: {You (Alone) we worship and You (Alone) we ask for help.} We worship Allah the Almighty, We ask him help in worshiping Him. And ‘Ibadah comprises the whole life, and Isti’ana is applied in everything.

We ask Allah the Almighty to give us tawfeeq in obeying Him, and to send ma’aasi (disobedience) away from us. Certainly, He has power over everything. Ameen.

The first Du’aa (supplication), as per the order of the Mus’haf, is the Du’aa to be guided to the Straight Path. It is in Suratul Fatihah: {You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help. Guide us to the Straight Way.} [1: 5-6] As-Siraat’ means a way, a wide straight way. ‘Al-Mustaqiim’ means with no bends. ‘As-Siraat Al-Mustaqiim’ (the Straight Way) is Islam, which Allah sent Messengers and Proph-ets with, the total submission to Allah the Almighty and walking on His Manhaj. This is the Straight Way, the way of those on whom grace has been bestowed.

Those who walk on the Straight Way, Allah has bestowed upon them a great grace, the grace of guid-ance to the Straight Way. Allah the Almighty informs us on them He The Almighty says: {Those who obey Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqun (the first to believe in the Prophets like Abubakr), the Shuhadaa and the righteous. And how excellent these companies are! Such is the bounty from Allah, and Allah is Sufficient as All-Knower.} [4: 69-70]

The Straight Way has no bends, a straight path with no bends. Therefore, it is different from the way of the devious. The way of the devious is the way of those who earned the Anger of Allah and those who went astray. Allah the Almighty says: {Guide us to the Straight Way. The Way of those You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (such as the Jews), nor of those who went astray (such as the Christians).} [1: 6-7] i.e. guide us to Your Straight Way that You have bestowed on Your Slaves to walk on. Do not make us of those who walk on the way of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray.

{Those who earned Your Anger.} implies to all who know the truth and turn away from it. They do not learn it nor translate it into deeds. They are all who know the truth but do not act upon it, they are led by the Jews.

{Those who went astray.} are all who act without any knowledge, they are led by the Nasaaraa, Chris-tians; as they like to call themselves. So those who act randomly, do not know the Rules of Allah, nor His Shari’ah, nor His Deen, nor His Commands, those are the ones who went astray.

As for the guided, they are those who walk on the correct Manhaj. Guidance to the Straight Way means knowing the truth and acting upon it. The Straight Way is the Religion of Islam. Allah the Almighty tells Muhammad peace be upon him and his Ummah: {Say: Truly, my Lord has guided me to a Straight

Way, a right religion, the religion of Ibrahim, Haniifa (Tawheed) and he was not of Al-Mushrikiin.} [6: 162]Allah the Almighty commands Muhammad -peace be upon him- and those who follow the religion of the Prophet -peace be upon him- to declare this declaration: ‘Say indeed, my Lord has guided me to the Straight Way. What I take as my Deen, Wahyi (revelation) and following the Shari’ah orders is the Straight Way.’

The Deen I follow, Islam, is the religion of Ibrahim peace be upon him. It is the extension of the pro-phetic heritage of the Prophets peace, blessings be upon them. It is the Deen of Tawheed: {Say: Truly, my Lord has guided me to a Straight Way, a right religion, the religion of Ibrahim, Haniifa (Tawheed) and he was not of the polytheists.} This is the declaration: I am on Al-Haqq (the truth), and whoever is not on the truth is on Al-Batil (false). What is the truth? Following Muhammad peace be upon him. Fol-lowing the Straight Way is what Allah the Almighty has ordained for His Slaves: {And verily, this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqiin (the pious).} [6: 153]

So Allah has ordained for His creations to follow the Straight Way. How can I be on the Straight Way? By having Iman in Allah the Almighty. Al-Mu’miniin (believers in Allah) are on the Straight Way, they the ones guided to the Straight Way. Allah the Exalted says: {And verily, Allah is the Guide of those who believe, to the Straight Path.} [22: 54] So first is by having Iman, then by following the guidance of the Prophet peace be upon him, Allah the Almighty says: {And certainly, you (O Muhammad) call them to the Straight Path.} [23: 73] So whoever complies with the guidance of the Prophet peace be upon him and follows his Sunnah is on the Straight Way. We walk on the Straight Way by following the Holy Quran. Allah the Almighty says: {Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light (Prophet Muhammad) and a plain Book (this Quran). Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His Good Pleasure to ways of peace, and He brings them out of darkness by His Will unto light and guides them to the Straight Way.} [5: 15-16]

The guidance to the straight way is in the Book of Allah the Almighty, the orders of the Quran, the rulings of the Quran, the morals of the Quran. Following the Quran is walking on the Straight Way. As much as one deviates from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet -peace be upon him- and from Iman, he become deviant, following the straying ways. Walking on the Straight Way is achieved by complying with worshiping Allah the Almighty and avoiding shirk (polytheism). The Almighty says: {Did I not command you, O Children of Adam, that you should not worship Shaytan (Satan). Verily, he is a plain enemy to you. And that you should worship Me (Alone). This is the Straight Path.} [36: 60-61]

Allah the Almighty informs that following the Straight Way is by worshiping Him. {And that you should worship Me (Alone). This is the Straight Path.} We should not follow Shaytan, we should not worship them, we should not make Shaytan our leader. We seek refuge with Al-lah. Therefore, walking on the Straight Way requires abiding by Twaa’a (worship) and avoid-ing shirk. Following the Straight Way is by doing Twaa’a and avoiding Ma’siya (disobedience). Al-lah the Almighty says: {But if they had done what they were told, it would have been better for them, and would have strengthened their (Faith); And indeed We should then have bestowed upon them a great reward from Us. And indeed We should have guided them to the Straight Way.} [4: 66-68] Pursuing and guidance to the Straight is found in holding fast to Allah. The Almighty says: {So, as for those who believed in Allah and held fast to Him, He will admit them to His Mercy and Grace, and guide them to Himself by the Straight Path.} [4: 175] Allah informed us that He guides those who hold fast to

Page 7: TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh H rith ... · As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed.

Him to the Straight Way. Moreover, Allah has ordained that those who hold fast to Him have already been guided to the Straight Way. Allah the Almighty says: {And whoever holds firmly to Allah, then he is indeed guided to the Straight Path.} [3: 101] This is an ordainment from Allah the Almighty, those who are holding fast to Him have already been guided to the Straight Way.

What is ‘holding fast to Allah’? In short, ‘holding fast to Allah’ comprises of four things:

First thing: Total submission to and compliance with Quran and Sunnah. Allah the Almighty says: {It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error.} [33: 36] Surrender, submission to and compliance with the Laws of Allah the Almighty in the Quran and Sunnah, and whoever contradicts with them is in a plain error. Guidance is in the Quran and Sunnah, while the plain error is in contradicting with the Shari’ah orders.

Second thing: Not making a decision in advance before Allah and His Messenger, avoiding despotism of Shari’ah. One should not make a decision except after knowing how the Law of Allah the Almighty and His Messenger related to the decision. He should look for What Allah said in this particular situation. What the Prophet - peace be upon him - said. Allah the Almighty says: {O you who believe! Make not (a decision) in advance before Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.} [49: 1] This means that we are not permitted to be despotic over the Shari’ah, nor to advance before it by anything. We should make Shari’ah, Quran and Sunnah our guide, we are followers of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him.

Third thing regarding holding fast to Allah: Nullification of everything contradicting with Quran and Sunnah; every custom contradicting with Quran and Sunnah, every habit, law, constitution, system, organization or anything else. Whatever contradicts with Quran and Sunnah is null and void. Believing in its nullity and declare publicly its nullity. Allah the Almighty says: {Such is Allah, your Lord in truth. So after truth, what else can there be, save error? How then are you turned away?} [10: 32] What is there after the truth? This is the Book of Allah the Exalted, this is the Sunnah of the Prophet, and everything contradicting with them is null and void.

Fourth thing:Referring to Quran and Sunnah during disagreement. When there is a disagreement, our reference should be the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him. Not referring to the constitution, not the law, not the international laws, not the revolutionary laws, not the ballot box not the parliament. When we differ on something, Allah the Almighty has commanded us to refer it to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet. Allah the Almighty says: {O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him) and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Al-lah and the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.} [4: 59] Allah the Almighty bound this order, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day then when you disagree on something refer it to Allah and His Messenger.

These are the four things comprised by ‘holding fast to Quran and Sunnah’.

The last thing concerning walking on the Straight Way is conquering for the Sake of Allah. Allah the Almighty says: {Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad) a manifest victory. That Allah may forgive you your sins of the past and the future, and complete His Favor on you, and guide you on the Straight Path. And that Allah may help you with strong help.} [48: 1-3] Allah the Almighty says that guidance to the Straight Way is with the conquest of lands by Jihad and other means in the Cause of Allah.

Whoever pursues the Straight Way today, Allah will save him on the Straight Way on the Day of Judgment. The Straight Way of Allah in this Dunya is His Shari’ah rules; Islam. And on the Day of Judgment Allah has a Way raised on the back of Jahannam. Whoever walks on the Straight Way today and survives, he will survive on that Way, and the nature of his walk here will be the same on the Day of Judgment. Ibn Al-Qayyim says in Madarij As-Salikiin: Everyone should look at his walking on this Straight Way, which will be his walking on that Way (over Jahannam). Whoever is seized by miscon-ceptions and desires will be snatched by hooks on the back of Jahannam, an exact recompense. And whoever is fast in obeying Allah, on the Day of Judgment he will be with the forerunners to Jannah.

We ask Allah the Almighty to grant us Tawfeeq in obeying Him. May He guide us to the Straight Way, indeed He has power over all things.

Allah the Almighty says: {Alif-Laam-Miim (These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meaning). This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqiin (pious, believers of Tawheed).} [2: 1-2] The Quran, a book where there is no doubt, nor suspicion. There is no doubt the Quran is from Allah the Almighty, it is the Words and a revelation from Allah. Allah the Almighty revealed it to Muhammad peace be upon him, the seal of the Messengers. Allah the Almighty says: {And this Quran is not such as could be produced by other than Allah, but it is a confirmation of (the revelation) which was before it (Taurat and Gospel), and a full explanation of the Book (laws decreed for mankind) - wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the Worlds.} [10: 37]

The first thing you read in the Book of Allah the Almighty after Al-Fatihah is this wonderful decree, by which Allah the Almighty informs about His Book, that it has no doubt, suspicion, no obscurity. As soon as you start reciting and reading the Holy Quran, you start with this Manhaj; there is no doubt the Quran is from Allah the Almighty, no doubt in its rulings, its information. Its stories are true, its rulings are just. Allah the Almighty says: {And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.} [6: 115] All the Rulings of Allah the Almighty are just. All His Stories are true. None can change His Words. It has no alteration, no change, its rulings are fixed, unchangeable. We do not need to amend the Quran, no need to vote, no need to hold election or referenda. Because the Quran is preserved by Allah the Almighty. Our constitution is the Quran from Allah the Almighty, His Words have been fulfilled in truth and justice. None can change the Almighty’s Words.

The Quran is doubtlessly from Allah the Almighty, there is no doubt in its rulings and stories, because the Quran is the truth. Allah the Almighty says: {Say, “O mankind! Now truth (Quran and Sunnah) has come to you from your Lord. So whosoever receives guidance, he does so for the good of his own self; and whosoever goes astray, he does so to his own loss; and I am not (set) over you as a Wakiil (disposer of affairs to oblige you for guidance).} [10: 108] Allah the Almighty says that the Quran is truth whether people believe in it or disbelieve. When most of the people disbelieve and do not accept the Book of Allah, or did not submit to it, does this mean that the Quran has obscurity, doubt or suspicion? Never.

Allah the Almighty says: {In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful. Alif-Laam-Miim-Raa. These are the Verses of the Book (Quran), and that which has been revealed unto you (Muhammad)

from your Lord is the truth, but most men believe not.} [13: 1] And the believers are certain, not un-certain not doubtful, of the Book of Allah. They have no doubt in its information, rulings, and its promises. This is what Allah the Almighty informs us of the true believers; that they have no doubt in their hearts, no uncertainty of the Rulings of Allah and His Revelation. Allah the Almighty says: {Only those are the believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and afterward doubt not but fight with their wealth and their lives for the Cause of Allah. Those! They are the truthful.} [49: 15] Allah the Almighty informs about the believers that they believe in Allah the Almighty and His Messen-ger - peace be upon him, they have certainty, they have attained the status of certainty, they have no doubt, no suspicion. And after they have believed and submitted, they act. Allah the Almighty says, {they fight with their wealth and their lives for the Cause of Allah.}. Belief, conviction, certainty, deeds, Iman, Jihad by wealth and lives; whoever holds these things, certainty, negation of doubts, negation of suspicion and obscurity, and has submitted to Allah the Almighty, His Laws, and Jihad in the Way of Allah with his live and wealth, Allah says, {Those! They are the truthful.} Allah the Almighty describes them as truthful.

Allah the Almighty describes the condition of the believers in dealing with the decree of Allah the Al-mighty, His Shari’ah, His Laws when the Ahzaab came to Madinah during the era of Prophet - peace be upon him. Allah the Almighty describes the condition of the believers at that time, He says: {When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and you were harboring doubts about Allah. There, the believers were tried and shaken with a mighty shaking.} [33: 10-11] During that grave state, full of terror while the Kuffar have gathered around them, what was the condition of the believers with that? With following the Prophet peace be upon him? With their belief in revelation? Allah the Almighty says: {And when the believers saw Al-Ahzaab (the Confederates), they said: “This is what Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him) had promised us; and Allah and His Messenger had spoken the truth. And it only added to their Faith and to their submissiveness (to Allah).} [33: 22]

Allah the Almighty informs us that the Kuffar are our enemies, that they are waging war against us, and they are still fighting us. When the believers saw that with their own eyes, and lived the reality, Allah the Almighty says that it only added to their Faith in Allah the Almighty and to their submis-siveness to Him. {And when the believers saw Al-Ahzaab (the Confederates), they said: ““This is what Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him) had promised us; and Allah and His Messenger had spoken the truth. And it only added to their Faith and to their submissiveness (to Allah).} [33: 22]

The goal is that Allah describes the believers whom He has praised as ‘truthful’, that they have no doubt, and that they are the followers of the Book and Sunnah. Allah the Almighty says: {Only those are the believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and afterward doubt not but fight with their wealth and their lives for the Cause of Allah. Those! They are the truthful.} [49: 15] They are the people of truth. They are the truthful And Allah the Almighty commands us to be with the truthful. The Al-mighty says: {O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds).} [9: 119] The Munafiqeen (hypocrites) are the doubtful. And their doubt is revealed during hardships and Jihad. Allah the Almighty says: {Those who believe in Allah and the Last day would not ask your leave to be exempted from fighting with their properties and their lives; and Allah is the All-Knower of Al-Mut-taqiin. It is only those who believe not in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts are in doubt that ask you leave. So in their doubts they waver. And if they had intended to march out, certainly, they would have made some preparation for it; but Allah was averse to their being sent forth, so He made the lag behind, and it was

Allah informs about the Munafiqeen that they are doubtful, and that in their doubts they waver. And Allah the Almighty describes the condition of the Munafiqeen in the Battle of Ahzaab. Allah says about the Battle of Ahzaab: {When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and you were harboring doubts about Allah. There, the believers were tried and shaken with a mighty shaking. And when the Munafiqeen and those in whose hearts is a disease (of doubts) said: ““Allah and His Messenger promised us nothing but delusion!} [33: 10-12]The doubts of the Munafiq surfaces during hardships and during Jihad, that is why Suratu Tawbah is also named ‘the Exposer’. Ibnu ‘Abbas may Allah be pleased with him named it ‘the Exposer’ because it exposes the Munafiqeen. Certainty is tested and doubts are revealed during the implementation of Shari’ah. When Shari’ah is implemented it becomes clear who are the people of certainty, Iman in Allah the Almighty, submission to Him, His Law and His Shari’ah, and it becomes clear who are the Munafiqeen, the people of doubts and uncertainty. Allah the Almighty says: {They (Munafiqeen) say: “We have believed in Allah and in the Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him), and we obey.” Then a party of them turn away thereafter, such are not believers. And when they are called to Allah (His words, the Quran) and His Messenger, to judge between them, lo! A party of them refuses (to come) and turns away. But if the truth is on their side, they come to him willingly with submission. Is there a disease in their hearts? Or do they doubt or fear lest Allah and His Messenger should wrong them in judgment. Nay, it is they themselves who are the Dhalimuun. (polytheists, hypocrites and wrong-doers). The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allah and His Messenger, to judge between them, is that they say: “We hear and obey.” And such are the successful. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, fears Al-lah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful.} [24: 47-52] Allah the Almighty informs us, in these verses, that the Munafiqeen turn away from the Book of Allah the Almighty and His Shari’ah, and hate the Laws of Allah the Almighty. He then makes the word of the believers clear; The only say-ing of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allah and His Messenger, to judge between them, is that they say: “We hear and obey.”And such are the successful” Allah the Almighty said: And such are ‘Al-Muflihuun’ (the successful) and to conclude the verses He says: And such are Al-Faizuun (the successful) again in this life and the Hereafter.

Doubt and uncertainty negate Iman. When doubt and uncertainty come in, Iman goes out, hence that person is no longer a believer. And Allah the Almighty describes to us the state and condition of the people of doubts and uncertainty on the Day of Judgment. The Almighty says: {On the Day when the Munafiqeen - men and women - will say to the believers: ““Wait for us! Let us get something from your light! It will be said: “Go back to your rear! Then seek a light!” So a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, outside will be torment. (The Munafiqeen) will call the believers: “Were we not with you?” The believers will reply: “Yes! But you led yourselves into temptations, you looked forward for our destruction; you DOUBTED and you were deceived by false desires, till the Command of Allah came to pass. And the chief deceiver (Shaytan) deceived you in respect of Allah. So this Day no ransom shall be taken from you (Munafiqeen), nor of those who disbelieved (in Tawheed). Your abode is the Fire. That is your Maula (friend - proper place), and worst indeed is that destination.} [57: 12-15] Their abode and Maula is the Fire. And worst indeed is that destination, together with their brothers the Kuffar. Allah the Almighty says regarding the Kuffar: {But as for those who disbelieved (it will be said to the): ““Were not Our Verses recited to you? But you were proud, and you were a people who were Mujrimeen (polythe-ists, disbelievers, sinners, criminals). And when it was said, “Verily, the Promise of Allah is the truth, and there is no doubt about the coming of the Hour.” “We know not what is the Hour: we do not think it but as

a conjecture, and we have no firm convincing belief (therein). And the evil of what they did will appear to them, and that which they used to mock at will completely encircle them.} [45: 31-33] The Munafiqeen and Kuffar are all in Jahannam. Those are the people of doubts and uncertainty. They are doubtful and uncertain of the Commands of Allah the Almighty, His Shari’ah and Decree. Doubts and uncertainty are not for the believers.

Doubts and uncertainty are for the Munafiqeen and those with a disease in their hearts. Allah the Almighty says: {It is He Who has sent down to you the Book. In it are verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundation of the Book (orders, obligations, penal cord); and others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials), and seek for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: We believein it; the whole of it (clear and unclear) are from our Lord.”” And none receive admonition except men of understanding.} [3: 7] Allah the Almighty informs us about those whose hearts have a disease that they follow the unclear in the Book of Allah the Almighty. They then manipulate them to seem contradicting with one another, they create misconceptions. Why do they create misconceptions? So that they evade Shari’ah rulings, so that they give Shari’ah their back, so that they hinder from the Commands of Allah and Fighting in the Way of Allah the Almighty. They might come up with verses from the Book of Allah the Almighty, or Hadeeth of the Prophet peace be upon him. You may find the words of the Munafiqeen and those whose hearts have a disease and deviance; some verses from the Book of Allah, they distort their meaning and ma-nipulate them in such they contradict with one another, in order to hinder from the Way of Allah. But a Mu’min (believer) is a fortress fortified by the Book of Allah the Almighty. Don’t fear their Bid’as and innovation, As long as you’re in the Book’s care and refuge. He whose guard and armor is the Book, Fears not the enemy’s stabbing and jabbing. By the Quran, the Iman of the believers increases and the Munafiqeen and those in whose hearts is a disease, doubt and disbelief increase. And they die while they are Kuffar. This is the Quran. The Almighty says: {And whenever there comes down a Surah (chapter from the Quran), some of them (Munafiqeen) say: “Which of you has had his Faith increased by it?” As for those who believe, it has increased their Faith, and they rejoice. But as for those in whose hearts is a disease, it will add suspicion and doubt to their suspicion, disbelief and doubt; and they die while they are disbelievers.} [9: 124-125]

Whenever a verse comes to them, whenever they learn a verse or a command from the Revelation of Allah the Almighty, they belie it, or hinder from it, or doubt it. The more the verses became, the more misconceptions, doubts, uncertainty and turning away became. They increased disbelief above their disbelief. And their end is in Jahannam, may Allah protect us. The Book of Allah the Almighty, there is no doubt in it, no suspicion. The believer have no doubt in their hearts, no suspicion. As for doubt and suspicion, they are with the Kuffar and Munafiqeen.

We ask Allah the Exalted to grant that we have a good ending. May He take us while He is pleased with us. Indeed, He has Powers over all things.

Allah the Almighty praises those who recite the Quran. Allah the Almighty says: {Those to whom we have given the Book (the Quran) recite it as it should be recited, they are the ones who believe therein. And whosoever disbelieve in it, those are they who are the losers.} [2: 121]

Allah the Almighty informs us that those who recite the Quran as it should be recited are the ones who have believed in it, as for those who disbelieve in the Quran, they are the losers. They have lost themselves in this world and the Hereafter, and they are the fuel of Jahannam (Hell).

Reciting Quran is a great thing , but what is meant by 'reciting' it?

Tilawa (arabic word used for recite in the verse) has two meanings: First meaning is reciting. The sec-ond meaning is following or compliance.

The first is Tilawa that means reciting i.e. they recite and read it as it should be recited. We say Talaa Al-Quran i.e. he recited the Quran.Tilawa meaning following is to make the Quran Imam or leader and then follow it, comply with it. That is why we say Talii, meaning the next one i.e. which follows.Tilawa (arabic word used for recite in the verse) has two meanings:

The first is Tilawa that means reciting i.e. they recite and read it as it should be recited. And that is achieved by two things: The right recitation of the Quran and the Pure reflection of the Quran.

So you recite and read the Quran by (following) the correct recitation (rules), free from errors. And together with the right recitation there is reflection. Ibnu Mas'ood may Allah be pleased with him said: "By He Who my heart is in His Hand, indeed, 'to be recited as it should be recited' is to make Halaal what is Halaal and Haraam what is Haraam, and to recite it as Allah revealed it, without displacing words from their right places, and not to interpret it except by its interpretation.” These are the words of Ibnu Mas’ood may Allah be pleased with him.

Reciting the Quran is a purpose among the purposes of the prophethood of Muhammad peace be upon him. Allah the Almighty sent Muhammad peace be upon him for many purposes. Among these purposes is to recite the Quran. And this is the Du’aa of Ibrahim and Ismail peace be upon them for this Ummah. Allah the Almighty says that Ibrahim and Ismail said: {Our Lord! Send amongst them a

Messenger of their own, who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book and Al-Hik-mah (prophethood), and purified them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.} [2: 129]

Allah graced this Ummah by sending to it Muhammad peace be upon him, he recites unto them the Quran, he reads unto them the Quran. Allah the Almighty says: {Indeed Allah conferred a great favor on the believers when He sent among them a Messenger (Muhammad) from among themselves, reciting unto them His verses (the Quran), and purifying them (from sins by following him), and instructing them (in) the Book and Al-Hikmah, while before that they had been in manifest error.} [3: 164]

So reciting the Quran is a purpose among the purposes of the prophethood of Muhammad peace be upon him and his family.

Also among the purposes of the revelation of the Quran is ‘reflection’. Allah the Almighty revealed the Quran to be reflected on by His Believing Slaves, so that the Mu’mineen (believers) reflect on it. Allah the Almighty says: {(This is) a Book (the Quran) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings, that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may remember.} [38: 29]

To ponder over its verses, to reflect on them. Allah the Almighty revealed the Quran, this blessing, to be recited, reflected on, and to be pondered over and for lessons to be learnt from. Reflection also means learning a lesson from the Holy Quran.

Allah the Almighty faulted those who do not reflect on His Book. My Lord the Exalted says:{Do they not then think deeply in the Quran, or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it)?} [47: 24]

Why don’t you reflect on the Quran? Is your heart locked up from understanding it? Life with Quran’s company by reciting it and reflecting on it is a beautiful life. The condition of he who recites the Qu-ran, he who follows and lives with the Quran is different morally and psychologically, is vision of life, universe and humankind is different.

May Allah have mercy on Ash-Shaatiby, he said:

Indeed the Book of Allah is the firmest of intercessors, the wealthiest in wealth and a generous giver.It’s the best company, its words never bore, the more you re-read the more beautiful it is.

And whenever a young man fears in the darkness of the grave he’ll find it shining brilliantly.There it will relax him in his sit and garden. And for its sake the peak of glory emerges.

Quran calls Him (Allah) to be pleased with him who loves it, a request worthy to be answered.O you reciter of it, O holder, O glorifier of it in every condition, O who gives it great respect,

Enjoy the fact your two parents have on them, clothes glowing are their crowns and ornament.What do you think of the son, how will he be rewarded? Those are the people of God, the elite of them all.

The people of kindness, patience and piety, their ornament has been brought by the Quran in detail.Hold unto it competitively as you live, and sell your inferior soul to Quran’s superior breaths.

Tilawa also means following or compliance i.e. following the Quran. Allah the Almighty says: {Then We have put you (O Muhammad) on a (plain) way of (Our) Commandment. So follow that, and follow not the desires of those who know not. Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Dhalimuun (polytheists, wrong-doers) are Auliyaa (protectors, helpers) of one

another, but Allah is the Waliy of the Muttaquun.} [45: 18-19]There are only two options, either you follow the Shari’ah or follow the desires of those who know not. You are either with the Shari’ah or with corrupted errant desires. {Then We have put you (O Muham-mad) on a (plain) way of (Our) Commandment. So follow that, and follow not the desires of those who know not.} The Quran has guidance, while the desires of those who know not have ignorance, the desires of those who know not! Then if you follow the desires of those who know not, the ignorant, lust and mis-conceptions, if you follow them Allah informs us that they will not benefit you in this world and the Hereafter. {Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Dhalim-uun (polytheists, wrong-doers) are Auliyaa (protectors, helpers) of one another, but Allah is the Waliy of the Muttaquun.} Either your protector is Allah the Almighty or your protectors are the Dhalimuun. {Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Dhalimuun (poly-theists, wrong-doers) are Auliyaa (protectors, helpers) of one another, but Allah is the Waliy of the Muttaqu-un.}

Alah the Almighty says about Muhammad peace be upon him in the Quran:{I (Muhammad) have been commanded only to worship the Lord of this city (Makkah), Who has sancti-fied it and to Whom belongs everything. And I am commanded to be from among the Muslims. And that I should recite the Quran.} [27: 91-92]

So among the commands that came to the Prophet peace be upon him are worship, Islam and Tilawa of Quran. Tilawa means following it, its other meaning is reciting it. {I (Muhammad) have been commanded only to worship the Lord of this city (Makkah), Who has sancti-fied it and to Whom belongs everything. And I am commanded to be from among the Muslims. And that I should recite the Quran . } That I follow the Book of Allah the Almighty. Why did Allah send the Quran down? He revealed the Quran so that we act upon it. We recite it and seek guidance through it. Allah the Almighty revealed Books from the Heavens to guide humankind. And Allah sent the Quran down to be acted upon. He did not sent it down for blessings only. The Quran is a blessing, but it was not sent down for that purpose only. We seek blessings by reciting it, yes that is important. The Quran has blessings, but also following it is required, complying with it and waling on its guidance.

Ibn Mas’ood may Allah be pleased with him said: The Quran was sent down to be acted upon, but they took learning it as acting upon it. He said that Allah the Almighty sent down the Quran so that we act upon it. He sent it down so that we recite it in order to act upon it. He said that some people made their deed to be reciting the Quran.Ibn Mas’ood said: The Quran was sent down to be acted upon, but they took learning it as acting upon it. Indeed one of you may recite the Quran from its opening until the end without leaving one letter, while you have left out acting upon it.

Unfortunately, there are some Muslims who recite the Quran well, memorize the Quran with its di-alects very well, but when you look. . Where is the Quran in our lives? Where is the Quran in our Manhajs? Where is the Quran in our Shari’ah? Where are we from following the Quran.. {Verily, this Quran guides to that which is most just and right and gives glad tidings to the believers who work deeds of righteousness, that they shall have a great reward (Jannah). And that those who believe not in the Hereafter, for them We have prepared a painful torment (Jahannam).} [17: 9-10]

The phrase 'Sibghatallah' (the Religion of Allah) has been related once in Suratul Baqarah – And Sib-ghah (literally means 'dye') it does not mean 'paint', paint is like a coat; it peels off. You paint or varnish something, then it peels off. But Sibghah becomes part of the dyed object. 'Sibghatallah', this phrase and this term has been related only once in the context the following verses. Allah the Almighty says: {And they say, "Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided." Say, "Nay, (we follow) only the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham), Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism), an he was not of Al-Mushrikiin (polytheists). Say (O Muslims), "We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Ismail (Ishmael), Ishaq, Ya'qub (Jacob), and to Al-Asbat (the offspring of the twelve sons of Ya'qub), and that which has been given to Musa and 'Isa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam). So if they believe in the like of that which you believe, then they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, then they are only in opposition. So Allah will suffice for you against them. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (Our Religion is) the Sibghah (religion) of Allah (Islam) and which Sibghah can be better than Allah's? And we are His Worshipers. (Tafseer Ibn Katheer).} [2: 135-138]

In thes verse: {And they say, "Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided.} The Jews say, "Be Jews, then you will be guided." And the Christians say, "Be Christians, then you will be guided." Every nation is calling the Muslim Ummah to 'guidance', as per their claim - to their Manhaj, religion. The Christians are calling the Muslims to their religion, the Jews are calling the Muslims to their religion, and each claim that guidance is on their side. Therefore, these are calls and propaganda from the opposing na-tion to the Muslim Ummah. The answer which Allah the Almighty provided is: {Say, "Nay, (we follow) only the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham), Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism), and he was not of Al-Mushrikiin (polytheists).}

Allah the Almighty says: {Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism) and he was not of Al-Mushrikiin. Verily, among mankind who have the best claim to Ibrahim are those who followed him, and this Prophet (Muhammad peace be upon him) and those who have believed (Muslims). And Allah is the Walii (Protector and Helper) of the believers.)} [3: 68-69] The religion of Ibrahim that the Jews and Christians claim to follow is not Judaism nor Christianity. Allah says, {Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Is-lamic Monotheism) and he was not of Al-Mushrikiin. Verily, among mankind who have the best claim to Ibrahim are those who followed him, and this Prophet (Muhammad pece be upon him) and those who have believed (Muslims). And Allah is the Walii (Protector and Helper) of the believers.”}[3: 67-68]

We are the followers of Ibrahim peace be upon him. We are the ones who believed with Muhammad peace be upon him. We are the inheritors of the religion of Ibrahim peace be upon him. And the rest of the religions are conflicting with (the religion of Ibrahim). They are corrupted and deviated from the religion of Ibrahim, the religion of monotheism.

Allah the Almighty commanded the nations to follow the religion of Ibrahim, that Muhammad peace be upon him came with. Allah says: {Say (O Muhammad): Allah has spoken the truth; follow the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism) and he was not of Al-Mushrikiin. }[3: 95]Allah commanded Muhammad peace be upon him to follow the religion of Ibrahim, which is Ta-wheed (Islamic Monotheism), He says: {Then, We have sent the revelation to you (O Muhammad): “Fol-low the religion of Ibrahim, Hanifa, and he was not of Mushrikiin.}[17: 123]

This is a revelation from Allah the Almighty to Muhammad, peace be upon him, obligating him to follow the religion of Ibrahim. At first everyone was commanded: {Say (O Muhammad): Allah has spoken the truth; follow the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism) and he was not of Al-Mushrikiin.} [3: 95] And the command was for Muhammad peace be upon him and his Ummah to follow his religion: {Then, We have sent the revelation to you (O Muhamad): “Follow the religion of Ibrahim, Hanifa, and he was not of Mushrikiin.} [17: 123]

What is the religion of Ibrahim? The religion of Ibrahim peace be upon him is Islam and submission to Allah and avoiding shirk and its people; shirk and Al-Mushrikiin. Al-Walaa Wal-Baraa (Avowal and disavowal); Allah the Almighty inform us on Ibrahim peaace be upon him, He the Almighty says: {Truly, We chose him in this world and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him, “Submit (‘Aslim’ - Be a Muslim)!” He said, “I have submitted myself (as a Muslim) to the Lord of the Worlds} [2: 130-131] Allah the Almighty ordered him, ‘Aslim’ (be a Muslim), he submitted. He said, “I have submitted myself (as a Muslim) to the Lord of the Worlds.” Without delaying, without slacking. A direct submission to the Order of Allah the Almighty, this is His religion; submission to the Orders of Allah, submitting to Him and to His Orders; His Shari’ah, by words and deeds. And this is the will of Ibrahim and also of Ya’qub (Jacob) to their sons, to be on the religion of Islam like it is narrated in the verse that follows: {And this (submission to Allah, Islam) was enjoined by Ibrahim upon his sons and by Ya’qub,} i.e. Ya’qub also enjoined his sons. {And this (submission to Allah, Islam) was enjoined by Ibrahim upon his sons and by Ya’qub (saying), “O my sons! Allah has chosen for you the (true) religion, then die not except in the Faith of Islam (as Muslims - Islamic Monotheism).} [2: 132]

Therefore, the religion of Ibrahim is Islam and submission to the Commands of Allah - whether they agree with desire or not. When Allah ordered him to make Hijrah, Ibrahim peace be upon him made Hijrah. The order of leaving behind his wife and son came, he left his wife and son in an uncultivatable valley and walked away, this is an order from Allah, “I believe in Him, I submit to Him.” The order of slaughtering his son, he submitted to the Order of Allah the Almighty and complied with it. Then came a relief from Allah the Almighty.

Thence, it is Islam and submission to the Creator the Exalted. And we follow the religion of Ibrahim, a religion that Allah has ordered to be followed. This is Ibrahim that Allah has called ‘Ummah’, Ummah meaning Imam or meaning the size of a nation or the reward of a nation. And this is how the Prophets, the righteous that followed are rewarded; their reward and of those who followed them, Allah says: {Indeed, Ibrahim was an Ummah, (Qaanitan) obedient to Allah, Hanif and he was not one of Al-Mushriki-

in. (He was) thankful for His (Allah’s) favors. He (Allah) chose him and guided him to a Straight Path. And We gave him good in this world, and in the Hereafter he shall be of the righteous.} [16: 120-122]

Allah the Almighty describes Ibrahim as an ‘Ummah, Qaanitan to Allah’. Qunuut (derivation of the word Qaanitan) means: continuance in ‘Ibadah and Ta’ah (obedience), always obeying Allah the Al-mighty by performing ‘Ibadah. Another meaning of Qunuut also means: long stand during Swalah. Ibrahim was an Ummah, obedient to Allah and he was not one of Al-Mushrikiin, he disavowed shirk and Al-Mushrikiin. He separated himself from the people of evil and shirk. He had Al-Walaa Wal Baraa (alliance and disavowal). He was thankful to the Favors of Allah, by word and deed. Allah chose him and guided him to the Straight Path. The Almighty says: {And We gave him good in this world, and in the Hereafter he shall be of the righteous.} We are the people of historical extension and the heritage of the Prophets’ peace be upon them. Allah the Almighty says: {Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Al-lah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibraim, Isma’il, Ishaq, Ya’qub, and to Al-Asbaat (the offspring of the 12 sons of Ya’qub), and that which has been given to Musa and ‘Isa, and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam).”} [2: 136]

We are the people of Manhaj, and whoever treats us with enemity is deviant and contradicts Islam; evades the true religion of Tawheed; the religion of all the Prophets and Messengers. Then Allah the Almighty settles that the right guidance is that of the Prophet peace be upon him and his companions. Allah the Almighty says: {So if they believe in the like of that which you believe, then they are rightly guid-ed.} [2: 137] So the right guidance is to follow the salaf (predecessors); the Prophet peace be upon him and his companions may Allah be pleased with them and those who follow them. This verse is one of the evidences of the obligation of following the Manhaj of Salaf (predecessors); The Prophet peace be upon him and his companions may Allah be pleased with them and those who follow them.

{So if they believe in the like of that which you believe, then they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, then they are only in opposition} [2: 137] They are the opposition. They are the secessionists. “But if they turn away, then they are only in opposition.” Do not fear them, their plots should not worry. {So Allah will suffice for you against them. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.} [2: 137]This Manhaj, this Deen and Tawheed, this historical extension of the Prophetic message of Tawheen, Iman, obeying Allah, Qunuut and thanking the Grace of Allah; All these are: {The Sibghah (Religion) of Allah (Islam) and which Sibghah (religion) can be better than Allah’s? And we are His Worshipers.} [2: 138]

This is what Allah Allah has dyed us with; Iman, Tawheed, Twa’ah, compliance, Hijrah, fighting the Mushrikeen, disavowal of Shirk and it s people, and thanking the Grace of Allah. {The Sibghah (Reli-gion) of Allah (Islam) and which Sibghah (religion) can be better than Allah’s? And we are His Worshipers.} [2: 138] This is our mission, we are the Slaves of Allah the Almighty. (We worship Him) as He the Almighty wants and not like our desires want. We worship Allah the Almighty like He the Almighty likes. {the Sibghah (Religion) of Allah (Islam) and which Sibghah (religion) can be better than Allah’s? And we are His Worshipers.} [2: 138]

{The Wasat Ummah}ة وسطا أم

Allah the Almighty says, praising this Ummah and shedding light upon its merits and also its respon-sibility, He says:{Thus We have made you (true Muslims) a Wasat Ummah (nation), that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you.} [2:143]

Allah the Almighty reveals in this verse that this Ummah is a Wasat Ummah. This is a responsibility from Allah the Almighty and an honor. A responsibility to be Wasat, and an honor that Allah chose it (this Ummah) to be Wasat.

This great verse comes in the context of the hadith regarding the changing of the Qiblah (prayer di-rection).{The fools among the people will say, “What has turned them from their Qiblah (towards Jerusalem) to which they used to face in prayer.” Say (O Muhammad), “To Allah belong both, east and west. He guides whom He wills to the Straight Way. Thus We have made you (true Muslims) a Wasat Ummah (nation), that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you.} [2:143]

Allah the Almighty called those, who are against the Qiblah of the Muslims, ‘fools’. Anyone who contradicts with Allah the Almighty, who contradicts with the Shari’ah of Allah the Almighty, has nothing except foolishness and insanity. That is why Allah the Almighty says: “The fools among the people will say.” And the fools among people are those who contradict with the Shari’ah of Allah the Almighty, those stubborn towards the Laws of Allah the Almighty, the Kuffar and Munafiqeen. Allah says about the Munafiqeen: {And when it is said to them (hypocrites): “Believe as the people (Ansaar and Muhajireen) have believed,” they say: “Shall we believe as the fools have believed?” Verily, they are the fools, but they know not.} [2: 13]

So the Munafiqeen see what the Muslim have; Iman, abiding by Shari’ah and the Commands of Allah, following the Sunnah of Muhammad peace be upon him, they see these as foolishness. And Allah the Almighty reveals to us that foolishness is in abandoning Iman and contradicting with Shari’ah. Verily, they are the fools, but they know not. All in all, this verse in which Allah the Almighty says: {Thus We have made you (true Muslims) a Wasat Ummah (nation), that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you.} [2:143] comes in the context of the changing of the Qiblah.

Allah called this Ummah and honored it to be Wasat. What is the meaning of Wasat? What is the meaning of this Ummah being Wasat, and that Allah chose for it to be Wasat?

Wasat comes with a number of meanings, among them: fine, honor, the best, goodness, i.e. This Um-mah is the best of nations, the most honored, the finest. {We have made you a Wasat Ummah.} Allah the Almighty says, praising this Ummah: {You are the best of people ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf (all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah.} [3: 110]

This Ummah is the best because of its Iman in Allah, its fulfillment of its Shari’ah responsibilities; en-joining Al-Ma’ruf and forbidding Al-Munkar. {You are the best of people ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf (all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah.} [3: 110]

As long as it follows the Manhaj of Allah the Almighty, has Iman and abides by the Shari’ah command-ments in the Quran and Sunnah, this Ummah is in goodness. And the size of its goodness is propor-tional to its compliance with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him. And whenever it distances itself from complying with the Revelation, the Book and Sunnah, its goodness decreases, even though generally it has goodness. But its goodness decreases as much the Ummah distances itself from the Manhaj that Allah has ordained; Iman, enjoining Al-Ma’ruf, forbidding evil and fulfilling its responsibilities.

So where is the goodness of this Ummah? Its goodness is in the establishment of its Deen, its goodness is in the following of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Muhammad peace be upon him.

This is one of the meaning of ‘Wasat’. {Thus we have made you a Wasat Ummah.} i.e. We have made you the best Ummah, the blessed Ummah, a nation with justice. And here we have our second meaning of Wasat: just or justice. And that is being just by being moderate; avoiding ‘Ghuluww’ and ‘Tafriit’. A Wasat Ummah, far from ‘Ghuluww’ and far from ‘Tafriit’.

‘Ghuluww’ is exceeding the limit - i.e. Exceeding what Shari’ah has come with, the limits of the Quran and Sunnah, exceeding the limits of the deeds of the Prophet peace be upon him. Increasing worship-ing Allah with what He has not ordained. As for ‘Tafriit’, it is neglecting the Shari’ah orders; the Orders of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him.

Allah the Almighty has grace this Ummah and its Prophet by making it far from Ghuluww and far from Tafriit. Allah the Almighty describes the Prophet peace be upon him in the Quran: {The Messen-ger the Prophet who can neither read nor write, who they find written with them in the Taurat and the Injeel (Gospel: John xiv), he commands for them Al-Ma’ruf and forbids them from Al-Munkar; he allows them as lawful At-Tayyibaat (all good things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khabaith (all evil things), he releases them from their heavy burdens (of Allah’s Covenant with the children of Israel), and from the fetters (bindings) that were upon them.} [7: 157]

Allah describes what He sent Muhammad - peace be upon him - with: He made At-Tayyibaat (all good things) lawful and made Al-Khabaith (all evil things) unlawful, he came with enjoining Al-Ma’ruf and forbidding Al-Munkar. And he releases the heavy burden and chains which were on the previous na-tions. So this Ummah came free from chains and Ghuluww, and also free from irresponsibility, Allah

the Almighty says: {Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger (Muhammad) from yourselves (i.e. whom you know well). It grieves him that receive any injury or difficulty. He (Muhammad) is anxious over you (to be rightly guided, repent and to be saved from Jahannam); for believers (he peace be upon him is) full of pity, kind, and merciful.} [9: 128]

{Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger from yourselves. It grieves him that receive any injury or diffi-culty.} means it is hard on him what is hard on them, it is difficult for him when you are in pain, when you are in difficulty. The Prophet peace be upon him is not made happy by what has difficulty upon us, rather it worries and troubles him. {Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger (Muhammad) from yourselves (i.e. whom you know well). It grieves him that receive any injury or difficulty. He (Muhammad) is anxious over you (to be rightly guided, repent and to be saved from Jahannam); for believers (he peace be upon him is) full of pity, kind, and mer-ciful.} [9: 128]

This Ummah is a Wasat Ummah.

Allah says: {Thus We have made you (true Muslims) a Wasat Ummah (nation), that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you.} [2:143]This Wasat Ummah that has a moderate Manhaj, its Deen, its Rulings that are taken from the Revela-tion, all its aspect are the scale for values and civilizations, for civilizations of nations, their cultures, customs, traditions, and behaviors. We judge their customs and civilizations as developed or back-ward by their closeness to the Islamic values. Whatever is close to the Islamic values, to the Muslim traditions, to the morals of Muslims, is a developed nation. And whatever contradicts the Islamic mor-als, traditions, rulings, and civilization is a backward nation. {Thus We have made you (true Muslims) a Wasat Ummah (nation), that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you.} [2:143]

What this Ummah has - Shari’ah, Deen (religion) - directs the values of other nations and other re-ligions. The values of other nations are adjusted by the Muslim values. And the Muslim values are regulated by the Prophet peace be upon him. Allah the Almighty says: {Thus We have made you (true Muslims) a Wasat Ummah (nation), that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you.} [2:143]

So the Prophet peace be upon him is the scale by which we weigh our deeds, words, actions, culture, goals and dealings. All these are weighed by what the Prophet peace be upon him came with. And what the Prophet peace be upon him came with is moderation, Wasat. And whatever contradicts with what the Prophet peace be upon him came with is dispraised. That is why moderation is in following Muhammad peace be upon him. Moderation is following the Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him. Moderation does not mean absolute intermediacy between two things. Out there, there are peo-ple who demand moderation or call for moderation, and the reality of what they call for is Nifaq (hy-pocrisy). (They say:) “Don’t be with the Mu’mineen (believers), and don’t be with the Kuffar (infidels). Be in the middle. Don’t stand with the Mu’mineen, don’t participate with them, don’t support them, and don’t stand with the Kuffar.” In short, (they say:) “Be a Munafiq (hypocrite).” And among people there are those who call for moderation, calls for Bid’a (innovation in Deen). They call people to leave strictness to leave total adherence in following the Prophet peace be upon him, and that following re-ligion is optional, take from here and there, mix them and your result will be moderation. Never! This

is not the Manhaj of moderation. Nay, this is an innovated Manhaj, and the former is Manhaj of Nifaq.

The Moderate Manhaj is what the Prophet peace be upon him came with. It is the character of the Prophet peace be upon him. And what is the character of the Prophet peace be upon him. The mother of the believers, Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, tells us in Saheeh Muslim: “His character was the Quran.”

Therefore, the revelation that guides all concepts, the revelation that guides all values is the scale of all Muslims. Their culture is null, their values, manners and traditions are void except what agrees with the Shari’ah. Likewise Shari’ah is the scale for the rest of nations. This Ummah is a witness over man-kind. The Quran is a witness over this Ummah. And the Quran and Sunnah are witness over everyone. The Muslim Ummah is an active and effective Ummah, it is a forerunner in the civilizational role. An Ummah with a message. This is what Allah the Almighty commanded the believers, both male and female. Allah the Almighty says: {O you who have believed! Bow down, and prostrate yourselves, and worship your Lord and do good that you may be successful. And strive in the Cause of Allah as you ought to strive (with sincerity and with all your efforts that His Name should be superior). He has chosen you (to convey His Message of Tawheed to mankind by inviting them to His religion of Islam), and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship. It is the religion of your father Ibrahim. It is He (Allah) Who has named you Muslims both before and in this (the Quran), that the Messenger (Muhammad) may be a witness over you and you be a witness over mankind! So perform As-Salah, give Az-Zakah and hold fast to Allah. He is your Maula (Patron, Lord), what an excellent Maula and what an Excellent Helper!} [22: 77-78]

{Race towards the good deeds}فاستبقوا الخيات

Allah the Almighty says: {For every nation there is a direction which they face (in their prayers). So race towards all that is good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you together (on the Day of Resurrection). Truly, Allah is Able to do all things.} [2: 148]

The command of racing towards good deeds is mentioned in two placesin the Quran: Suratul Baqarah and Suratul Ma’idah.Allah the Exalted says: {... so compete in good deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allah; then He will inform you about that in which you used to differ.} [5: 49]

Racing to good deeds is a path for the individual and the Ummah. The command in the verse came as “fastabiqul khairat” – the command is in plural form. So the Muslim Ummah is a nation racing and hastening towards good deeds. So are the Muslim individuals; they too compete in good deeds. And the understanding of ‘competing’ in the Muslim Ummah is different from other nations and ideol-ogies. (For Muslims) The main goal for competing in good deeds in this dunya, is (for the sake of) building Aakhirah (the Hereafter).Allah the Almighty says: {Race with one another in hastening towards forgiveness from your Lord (Allah), and Jannah the width whereof is as the width of the heaven and earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers. That is the Grace of Allah which He bestows on whom He is pleased with. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.} [57: 21]

{And march forth in (the way that leads to) forgiveness from your Lord, and for Jannah as wide as the heav-ens and the earth, prepared for Al-Muttaqeen (the pious).} [3: 133]

So competing in good deeds is in dunya, while the goal is pleasing Allah the Exalted and attaining the Hereafter. This value, moral which has been forgot by many people uniquely distinguishes the Ummah of Muhammad – peace be upon him. And the main aim for racing and hastening towards good deeds is Allah and the Hereafter.Allah informs us the characteristics of the competitors and racers towards good deeds. Allah states their characteristics, which indicates the longing to please Him and the Hereafter.

Allah the Almighty says: {Verily, those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; And those who believe in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord; And those who worship not

Page 24: TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh H rith ... · As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed.

anyone as partners with their Lord; And those who give that (their charity) which they give with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). It is these who has race to the good deeds, and they are foremost in them.} [23: 57-61] In these verses, Allah the Almighty tells us about the characteristics of those who race towards good deeds. And these characteristics, as per their order in the verses, are arranged absolutely well.

The first characteristic: Allah the Almighty says: {those who live in awe for fear of their Lord.} This denotes the feeling of extreme fear which induce vigilance from the prohibited. He fears Allah the Almighty; he refrains from sins. He fears Allah the Exalted; he refrains from aggression, he abstains from insult, he races towards obedience and hastens in pleasing Allah and the Hereafter, and avoids sins, aggression, assault and oppression.

The second characteristic: Allah the Almighty: {And those who believe in the Ayat of their Lord.}This denotes the origin of Iman (faith), deep in Iman: keeping away from evil and rising in the status of Iman, rising toward Allah the Almighty.

The third characteristic of those racing and hastening towards good deeds: Allah the Almighty says: {And those who worship not anyone as partners with their Lord.}This denotes abstaining from shirk, from riya’ (showing off) in obedience. So their race, competition in good deeds, and their doing of good deeds is not for the sake of poeple, nor the creation; their hearts are distanced from shirk and their deeds far from riya’.

The fourth characteristic: Allah the Almighty says: {And those who give that (their charity) which they give with their hearts full of fear, because they are sure to return to their Lord.} This denotes performing good deeds at the same time fearing deficiency. They have no arrogance, pride, vanity. Instead they have fear, tenderness and submission to Allah the Exalted.

These four are the characteristics of As-Siddiqeen (the Truthful).

So who is the one who races towards good deeds? In short: He is the one who comes with a complete good deed at the recommended time while preserving its obligations and Sunnah.

Racing and hastening towards good deeds is in dunya, and the goal is building the Hereafter. This is the path of the believers. As for the kuffar, neither do they want Allah nor the Heareafter. Allah the Almighty says: {Verily, those who hope not for their meeting with Us, but are pleased and satisfied with the life of the present world, and those who are heedless of Our Ayat; those, their abode will be Fire, because of what they used to earn.} [10: 7-8]This is the path of the kuffar; contented with dunya and greed for it. Moreover, Allah informs us that the kuffar are competing in sins. They race towards wrongdoing, aggression on the creation and plun-dering people’s wealth. Allah the Almighty says: {And you see many of them hurrying towards sins and aggression, and eating illegal things (as bribes and usury). Evil indeed is that what they have been doing.} [5: 62] They hasten toward sins, wrongdoing, corrupting earth and eating people’s wealth. So the kuf-far compete for dunya and its leisure.

And Allah says that the Munafiqeen hasten towards kufr (disbelief). Allah the Almighty says: {O Messenger! Let not those who hurry to fall into disbelief grieve you, of such who say: “We believe” with their mouths but their hearts have not believed.} [5: 41] And Allah tells Muhammad peace be upon him:

Page 25: TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh H rith ... · As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed.

25 Al-Malahem Media | 2015

TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN’S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh Hārith bin Ghāzi An-Nadhāry

{And let not grieve you, those who rush with haste to disbelieve; verily, not the least harm will they do to Allah. It is the Will of Allah to give them no portion in the Hereafter. For them there is a great torment.} [3: 176]

Allah informs that the munafiqeen race towards kufr. They run after it. The munafiqeen also race towards treachery, treason. They claim they fear misfortunes, calamities and disasters. Allah the Al-mighty says: {And you see those in whose hearts there is a disease (of hypocrisy) hurry to them (Jews and Christians), saying: “We fear lest some misfortune of a disaster may befall us.” Perhaps Allah may bring a victory or a decision according to His Will. Then they will become regretful for what they have been keeping as a secret in themselves.} [5: 52]

On one hand there is the path of the believers and on the other there is the path of the kuffar and mu-nafiqeen. The path of the believers: racing and hastening towards good deeds and wanting to please Allah and the Hereafter. The path of the people of disbelief and hypocrisy: corruption, aggression and competing in sins and hastening towards kufr and plundering people’s wealth unjustly. They compete in treachery, treason. The two groups are never equal.

And those who hasten towards Allah also are not equal, they vary greatly in rank in the Sight of Allah the Almighty. All are hasten towards Allah, competing in good deeds, but they have different status. Allah the Exalted says: {Not equal among you are those who spent and fought before the conquering. Such are higher in degree than those who spent and fought afterwards. But to all Allah has promised good (re-ward). And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.} [57: 10]

Allah the Exalted informs us that the believers who spent (in the Way of Allah) before the conquest and were present during times of hardship; the people of sacrifice are higher in status than those who believed and fought Jihad after the conquest. Allah the Almighty has promised all good, i.e. Jannah. And Allah knows best of what is in the hearts.

{And give glad tidings to the patient.}ابرين الص وبش

Allah the Almighty says: {O Believers, seek help with fortitude and Salah, for Allah is with those who show fortitude. And do not say of those who are slain in the way of Allah, “they are dead.” In fact, they are alive but you do not perceive that life. We will surely put you to trial by involving you in fear and hunger and by caus-ing loss of property, life and earnings. And give good tidings to those who remain steadfast in these trials: when a misfortune comes to them, they say, “We are Allah’s and we shall certainly return to Him.” Their Lord will bestow great blessings and mercy upon them; such are the people who are rightly guided.} [2: 153-157]

In these verses, (Allah the Almighty) treated the problem of losing shuhadaa (martyrs) in a psycholog-ical approach. It was said that the reason behind the revelation of these verses - Allah knows best – are those slain in the Battle of Badr. They were about fourteen; eight from the Ansaar and six Muhajireen. It was the first time Muslims were inflicted by a loss of this number in a single battle. Fourteen were killed in one day; eight Muhajireen and six Ansaar. It was a dear and painful loss. People talked subse-quent to their killing. Some said: So-and-so died, he missed the comfort of this world and its leisure. Then Allah the Exalted revealed these verses. Ibnu ‘Abbas - may Allah be pleased with him - said: ‘Umayr ibnul Hamaam was killed on the day of Badr, and for him and others it was revealed “And do not say of those who are slain in the way of Allah, ‘They are dead.’ ...”

The general point of these verses is that the Quran treated the psychological problem of losing shuha-daa in three ways:

One: (By relating) The state of the martyrs. Allah the Almighty described the state of the martyrs to those who are alive. He the Almighty says: {And do not say of those who are slain in the way of Allah, “they are dead.” In fact, they are alive but you do not perceive that life.} Allah the Almighty tells the people alive do not be worried about those who were killed in the Way of Allah, because they are alive but you do not perceive their state of life. Likewise Allah says in another verse: {Think not of those slain in the way of Allah as dead. Indeed they are living, and with their Lord they have their provision.}[3:169] Allah the Almighty confirmed that they are alive. He the Exalted said: {they are living, and with their Lord they have their provision.} When you want to show that one is alive you say, “He is alive, and has his provision.” (Arabic expression). Allah the Almighty said about those killed in His Way: {Think not of those slain in the way of Allah as dead. Indeed they are living, and with their Lord they have their provision.} This is a confirmation from Allah the Exalted that they are alive, and that they have their provision. This is an assurance and glad tidings to the living and

Page 27: TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh H rith ... · As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed.

a clarification of the state of the shuhadaa who have been killed; Do not be worried about them, they are alive with their Lord, and subsistence is coming to them. That is not all, Allah the Almighty also reveals their state of mind. He the Exalted says: {(They are) rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them out of His bounty, they give glad tidings that neither fear nor grief shall come upon the believers left behind in the world who have not yet joined them. They rejoice at the Favors and Bounties of Allah, and at the awareness that Allah will not cause the reward of the believers to be lost.} [3: 169-171]

Allah the Almighty informs us that the shuhadaa are rejoicing at the Favors of Allah the Almighty, at the bounties that He has bestowed upon them. In addition to their rejoicing, they are jubilant at the Blessings of Allah. This is regarding the state of shuhadaa. Do not worry about them. Nor be sad (Re-garding the situation). They are alive. They have their provision. They are rejoicing and jubilant ... All this reveals the state of the shuhadaa. Do not worry about them.

This is a psychological treatment for the loss of shuhadaa. But there is something else ... Yes, one is re-lieved from worrying about the shuhadaa. But I am the one affected. I lost my father. I lost my brother. The wife is widowed, the family lost its provider. So we are suffering for his loss. Yes, the martyr is in a good state. He is happy. All is well. But I am suffering. I want to be at ease. ...

Here comes the next clarification. This is the clarification of the reality of trial and tribulation in the life of dunya, and that Allah the Almighty created dunya as trial and test. Here we see the Words of Allah the Almighty: {We will surely put you to trial by involving you in fear and hunger and by causing loss of property, life and earnings.}Yes you’ve lost your shuhadaa. This is the way. This is the path. This is the reality of the life of dunya. Moreover, Allah will try you with other things. Allah the Almighty says: {We will surely put you to trial by involving you in fear and hunger and by causing loss of property, life and earnings.}

This is not the first trial, and nor the last. This is not the first problem nor is the last. There are other trials. Just like you succeeded in the first trial - losing shuhadaa, it is necessary to prepare for the next trials so that you succeed and achieve prosperity. {We will surely put you to trial by involving you in fear and hunger and by causing loss of property, life and earnings. And give glad tidings to the patient.} This is the trial. This is the reality of tribulation and the reality of the life of dunya. The whole life is an exam-ination room, so that you succeed in the Hereafter. That’s why Allah the Almighty explains the reality of dunya, moreover the reality of life and death. He the Almighty says: {He Who created death and life that He might try you as to which of you is better in deed.} [67: 2] The creation of both life and death is a trial for the servant so that good deeds can manifest from him. So trials and tribulation are inevitable, so that good deeds are witnessed. Rather Allah the Almighty informs us on the inevitability of trials and tribulation in the establishment of Jihad in the Way of Allah. Allah the Exalted says: {And We will surely test you until We make evident the Mujahideen among you and the patient, and We will test your affairs.} [47: 31]

Allah the Almighty informs us that trials will continue upon the believers. They will continue upon Muslims. {And We will surely test you until We make evident the Mujahideen among you.} Trials will continue until Jihad becomes manifest in you. This Ummah will be in tribulations until it achieves the command which Allah prescribed upon it: Jihad. However much the Ummah claims to call towards peace, however much it runs away from fighting and fear confrontation, trials will continue as pre-scribed by Allah the Almighty. {And We will surely test you until We make evident the Mujahideen among you and the patient, and We will test your affairs.}

Page 28: TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh H rith ... · As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed.

28 Al-Malahem Media | 2015

TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN’S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh Hārith bin Ghāzi An-Nadhāry

A lot of people claim that when Jihad becomes obligatory upon them and fighting becomes ordinance they will embark on it. But trials and tribulations inflict come from Allah the Almighty to this Ummah to distinguish the truthful from the liars and to distinguish those patient on the Commands of Allah the Almighty. Allah the Almighty says: {And We will surely test you until We make evident the Mujahi-deen among you and the patient, and We will test your affairs.}

As for trials they bring about Jihad, Allah the Almighty has mentioned it in many verses. Allah the Exalted says: {Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?} [3: 142] You want Jannah? Before Jannah there are trials which Allah the Almighty tests with His Servants: {Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?}Note that Allah mentioned patience together with Jihad. This is because Jihad requires patience. Has Jihad manifested? Yes. Then you need to be patience. People have to be patient on the Orders of Allah the Almighty until they die. Allah the Almighty says: {Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are stead-fast?}

Therefore, trials and tribulations are continuous on this Ummah so that it achieves Jihad and steadfast-ness on the Orders of Allah the Almighty and abides to His Shari’ah. Allah the Almighty says: {Do you think that you will be left [as you are] while Allah has not yet made evident those among you who fight Jihad and do not take other than Allah, His Messenger and the believers as allies? And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.} [9: 16] Allah informs that you won’t be left without trials until Jihad becomes manifest among you and you achieve pure Al-Wala (Alliance towards Muslims). Do you think you will be left without the Mujahideen being distinguished from the others? And without manifesting those who have Al-Wala towards the Believers and ‘disavowal towards the Kuffar’? {While Allah has not yet made evident those among you who fight Jihad and do not take other than Allah, His Messenger and the believers as allies?} And until they have no alliance with the Kuffar and the munafiqeen?The point is trials are continuous on the entire Ummah and the individuals of this Ummah until they reveal their commitment towards the Commands of Allah the Almighty and abide by His Shari’ah.

So the first psychological treatment for the loss of the shuhadaa was the clarification of the state of the shuhadaa. The second treatment: clarification of the reality of trials in this dunya, and its inevitability for the servant to be tested and tried. After he has been tried and tested, what is it that is expected from him? … Patience and steadfastness.

Allah the Almighty says immediately after (the previous verses): {And give glad tidings to the patient, those who when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.} [2: 155-157]Here is when the Glad tidings come. Glad tidings to whom? To the patient Muslim. {And give glad tidings to the patient.} What are the patient supposed to do? {... those who when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah,”} We are a possession of Allah the Almighty. {Until there is no more fitnah.}حتى ل تكون فتنة

Allah the Almighty says: {And fight them until there is no more fitnah (disbelief and shirk) and (all and every kind of) worship is for Allah (Alone). But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and wrong-doers).} [2: 193] In this verse, Allah the Almighty clarifies the goal and purpose of fighting. {And fight them until there is no more fitnah (disbelief and shirk) and (all and every kind of) worship is for Allah (Alone).}

Fighting is for this path and sake. This is a clarification for the banner and goal with which we fight for. What are the goals and purposes (for fighting)? So that all and every kind of worship be for Allah Alone and the absence of fitnah on earth. Here there is difference of opinion on the reason for fight-ing the kuffar. Do we fight the kuffar for their disbelief or do we fight them for their aggression? This is a widely known disagreement ... The fact is - Allah knows best, we fight the kuffar so that Shari’ah dominates, until they surrender to the Law of Allah, until Shari’ah Law is applied on them. Therefore, for those who Allah has ordered us to fight, we will fight them. To those Allah has ordered us to make peace with, we make peace: they pay Jizyah (tribute) and are subjugated to the rule of Shari’ah. So the reason or cause for killing is not disbelief or aggression. Rather it’s for the Law of Allah to be above everyone. Allah the Almighty says: {And fight them until there is no more fitnah (disbelief and shirk) and (all and every kind of) worship is for Allah (Alone). But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and wrong-doers).} [2: 193]

Allah the Almighty reveals that there will be fighting until there is no more fitnah. Fitnah is shirk, kufr and It is much worse and grave than killing. Allah the Almighty says: {And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And fitnah is worse than killing.} [2: 191] Shirk and kufr are much worse than killing. In another verse He the Exalted says: {They ask you concerning fighting in the Sacred Months. Say “Fighting therein is a great (transgression), but a greater (transgression) with Allah is to prevent mankind from following the Way of Allah, to disbelieve in Him, to prevent access to Al-Masjid Al-Haram (at Makkah), and to drive out its inhabitants. And fitnah is worse than killing.} [2: 217] i.e. associating with Allah in worship and disbelief in Him is worse than killing. It is severer, uglier. Muslims fight so that there is no more fitnah.

As for the munafiqeen, they crave for fitnah. They are the ones who want fitnah. These are the people of hypocrisy and discord. Allah the Almighty exposed them and revealed their methods. Allah the Almighty says: {It is only those who believe not in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts are in doubt

Page 31: TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh H rith ... · As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed.

that ask you to be exempted (from Jihad). So in their doubts they waver.} [9: 45]Allah the Almighty informs that the munafiqeen excuse themselves from fighting. While the true believers race towards fighting in the Way of Allah, the munafiqeen search for excuses not to partake in fighting. They ask for permission and leave from the Shari’ah duty. Allah the Almighty says: {It is only those who believe not in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts are in doubt that ask you to be exempted (from Jihad). So in their doubts they waver.} [9: 45] This Shari’ah command to fight came as an obligation, but they evade from it. Because their hearts are skeptical and in doubt. They waver in their doubts. Their decisions are unsound, their conduct suspicious. Their hearts are in doubt, and in their doubts they waver. Allah the Almighty says: {And if they had intended to march out, certainly, they would have made some preparation for it; but Allah was averse to their being sent forth, so He made them lag behind, and it was said (to them), “Sit, among those who sit (behind).”} [9: 46]

Allah was averse to their being obedient to this deed. Allah does not want them to be with the Muja-hideen, nor does He want them to be with the ranks of the fighters. Why was he averse to that? Allah the Almighty says: {Had they marched out with you, they would have added you nothing except disorder, ...} [9: 47]

If they had marched forth with the Mujahideen, they would have spread disorder, corruption among the Mujahideen. “Had they marched out with you, they would have not added you ...” i.e. they march-ing out would have not brought to you, ... “except disorder.” This is what they would have added, cor-ruption. {Had they marched out with you, they would have added you nothing except disorder, and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading corruption) and craving fitnah for you.} [9: 47]This is the proof, “craving fitnah for you”. They incite fitnah in battlefronts, in the ranks of the Mujahi-deen, ranks of the fighters. This is the mission of the munafiqeen: sowing dissension between individ-uals, and stirring up evil and inciting fitnah among the believers. Whenever these munafiqeen partake in a battlefront they corrupt it. These people of hypocrisy and discord sow dissension and spreads rumors and set Muslims against each other. Sometimes, they come with the clothes of the people of knowledge, in the name of exhortation. Thereupon they sow dissension, hatred and enmity and shifts the war in between Muslim ranks.

His marching out with the Mujahideen added nothing except spreading disorder, inciting among them fitnah. Allah the Almighty says: {Had they marched out with you, they would have added you noth-ing except disorder,…} i.e. corruption {... and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading cor-ruption) and craving fitnah for you.} Allah the Almighty says: {And there are some among you who would have listened to them. And Allah is the All-Knower of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).} [9:47]O believers! O Mujahideen! There are those among you who listen to these munafiqeen who joined the Mujahideen in fighting. Some of you listen to them. And this is dangerous. so is following up ru-mors, welcoming fitnah, backbiting, slandering, corrupting and sowing dissension among hearts; all these are characteristics of the munafiqeen. When this variety is present in any battlefront, then it is from the munafiqeen who corrupt and stir up discord among the believers. This is their satanic task. {Had they marched out with you, they would have added you nothing except disorder, and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading corruption) and craving fitnah for you.} They are the ones who want fitnah.

The believers fight for the sake of Shari’ah; so that all and every kind of worship becomes for Allah the Almighty Alone.

While the munafiqeen fight to stir discord among Muslims. {... and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading corruption) and craving fitnah for you. And there are some among you who would have listened to them. And Allah is the All-Knower of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).} [9:47] The point is: Allah the Almighty says: {And fight them until there is no more fitnah (disbelief and shirk) and (all and every kind of) worship is for Allah (Alone). But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and wrong-doers).} [2: 193]This is the purpose of Jihad, this is it’s goal.We fight because Allah the Almighty commanded us to fight. Because it is an obligation to fight. Because fighting is obeying Allah the Almighty. And what is the goal of fighting? In the end, what do you want? Where is the end of fighting? Until all worship is for Allah Alone: the Shari’ah of Allah dominates, and the Sunnah of the Prophet - peace be upon him and his family - is followed. {And fight them until there is no more fitnah (disbelief and shirk) and (all and every kind of) worship is for Allah (Alone). But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and wrong-doers).} [2: 193]This is the primary goal. and in the fight itself, numerous secondary goals are achieved, aside from the religion being of Allah Alone (Main goal). While fighting, these goals are achieved. Some of these goals are the Words of Allah the Almighty: {Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands, ...} [9: 14] This is a goal of fighting, a fruit of Jihad. “Fight against them”, i.e. the kuffar or those who Allah ordered us to fight. {Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands, ...} In the hands of the believers, there is a punishment for the kuffar. {Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them ...} How are kuffar disgraced? By fighting them. Disgrac-ing the kuffar is desired. It is by achieved from what Allah the Almighty has commanded us with: Fighting and Jihad in the Way of Allah. {Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them ...} For them is defeat and to you is victory. {... and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people. And remove the anger of their (believers’) hearts.}Allah the Almighty remove, by fighting, the anger of believers over the kuffar. {Allah accepts the repen-tance of whom He wills. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.}“Allah accepts the repentance of whom He wills,” i.e. Allah the Almighty might guide some of the kuf-far into Islam, the reason behind that being Jihad in the Way of Allah. Allah the Almighty says: {Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people. And remove the anger of their (believers’) hearts. Allah accepts the repentance of whom He wills. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.} [9: 14-15]

In conclusion, the law has to be the Shari’ah of Allah, the religion the Religion of Allah and the rule, Rule of Allah. As for the kuffar, either they are killed or surrender to the Law of Allah, His Shari’ah. The Commands of Allah the Almighty become applied. Allah the Almighty says, ordering us to ad-dress the kuffar, He the Almighty says: {Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief), their past will be forgiven.} [8: 38] If they repent of their kufr and abide by Iman, Allah the Almighty might forgive their sins and wrong-doing. {Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbe-lief), their past will be forgiven. But if they return (thereto), then the examples of those (punished) before them already preceded (as a warning). And fight them until there is no more fitnah and the religion (wor-ship) will all be for Allah Alone. But if they cease (worshiping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do. And if they turn away, then know that Allah is your Maula (Lord, Protector and Supporter) - (what) an Excellent Maula, and (what) an Excellent Helper!} [9: 38-40]

Allah the Almighty says: {Do you think that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken ...} [2: 214] Allah the Almighty relates the state of the Messengers and Prophets from before in relation to the price of entering Jannah. The price of entering Jannah is to abide by the Commands of Allah the Exalted, being patient with trials and from what He has preordained. Allah the Almighty reveals to us (among) His Norms: is that He inflicts His Servants with severe poverty, hardship and that they will experience trials and will be shaken, until the condition of Messengers and their companions become hard and in distress, until they ask, “When will the Help of Allah come?” Allah the Almighty answers this question; When will the Help of Allah come? Allah says: {Certainly, the Victory of Allah is near!} And whose words can be truer than those of Allah? {Certainly, the Victory of Allah is near!}

Then Allah the Almighty informs on the nearness of His Victory granted to His Allies, the believers who are persistent in obeying Him and His Messengers - peace and blessings be upon them. Just like as He informed of the near victory, Allah the Almighty also informs that He has Bound Himself to give victory to His believing servants. Allah the Almighty says: {And indeed We did send Messengers before you (O Muhammad) to their own people. They came to them with clear proofs, then, We took ven-geance on those who committed crimes (disbelief, setting partners in worship with Allah, sins); and it was incumbent upon Us to help the believers.} [30: 47]Allah the Almighty informed that He will give victory to His believing servants who abide by His Commands. And victory comes with fighting. {and it was incumbent upon Us to help the believers.} When is the believer helped? When he fights. When does he succeed the examination? Only when he advances towards the examination. Allah the Almighty says that He has promised the believers victory when they perform Jihad. Allah the Almighty says: {O you who believe! Shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful torment? That you believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), and that you strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives: that will be better for you, if you but know!} [61: 10-11]

Allah the Almighty shows us the trade that will save us from a painful torment. If you don’t have your share in this trade, in this deed, you are menaced by the painful torment. What is this trade? First: Be-lieving in Allah and His Messenger. Second: Fighting in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives. Jihad with wealth and lives is unavoidable. Jihad with wealth alone is not enough, it’s upon the capable to participate in Jihad with their lives. And Jihad with lives alone is not enough to save from

the Torment of Allah the Almighty, so it is upon the capable to perform Jihad with their wealth. {You strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with wealth and your lives: that will be better for you, if you but know! (If you do so) He will forgive you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, and pleasant dwellings in Jannah of ‘Adn; that is indeed the great success. And also (He will give you) another (blessing) which you love, - help from Allah and a near victory. And give glad tidings to the believers.} [61: 11-13]When will the help from Allah and a near victory come? When there is Jihad and the believers carry out the ‘Ibadah of Jihad, Allah the Almighty rewards them both in the Hereafter and this life. He re-wards them in this life with victory.

And among the mistakes is to limit ‘victory’ in a simple confined definition. Victory has many defini-tions. Here I would like to mention what Sheikh Yusuf Al-’Uyayri - may Allah have mercy upon him - mentioned in his articles with the title: ‘Constants on the Path of Jihad’. He said: “The definitions of victory are many. Among them ...” he stated a number of meanings. I’ll only choose some. He said, “One: the victory of Mujahid over his self, the eight things that are beloved to him and what comes out of them.”

This is the first victory; He is victorious over his own self, desires, lust, demoralizers and earthly at-traction. None can advance towards Jihad except after a period of confrontation with his self, and win over his self and desires and many earthly attraction. He can only wage Jihad against the enemy after he has won over his own self. That is why he marched forth and engaged in battles in the Way of Allah the Almighty. Regarding the eight things that are beloved to him, Allah the Almighty says: {Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth that you have gained, the com-merce in which you fear a decline, and the dwellings in which you delight are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger, and striving hard and fighting in His Cause, then wait until Allah brings about His Decision (torment). And Allah guides not the people who are Al-Fasiqeen (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).} [9: 24]

Allah the Almighty details the demoralizers and attractions that hinder people from Jihad in the Way of Allah: fathers, sons, brothers, wives, kindred, wealth, businesses, dwellings, houses, ... Do these things hinder people from Jihad in the Way of Allah? Then be cautious. Allah the Almighty says: {... then wait until Allah brings about His Decision (torment). And Allah guides not the people who are Al-Fa-siqeen.} Allah the Almighty says that he who has been attracted by the eight attractions or any of the eight is among the Al-Fasiqeen. He has been warned; warned with a great warning {then wait until Allah brings about His Decision (torment).}

The fact is these eight attractions, or eight hindrances are the reason why many Muslims abstain from fighting in the Way of Allah, Jihad in the Way of Allah. If Muslims abandoned these attractions, or dealt with these hindrances as Allah the Almighty has ordered, then the condition of Muslims would have been far much better; Muslim lands would have been liberated a long time ago. But what are the excuses given (from refraining)? Our fathers, our sons, our wives, our children, our kindred, our wealth, business. I leave this house?! I leave ...?! That is why this frightening warning came, {... then wait until Allah brings about His Decision (torment). And Allah guides not the people who are Al-Fasiqeen.}Therefore, by mere marching forth to Jihad in the Way of Allah the Almighty, the Mujahid has achieved the first victory; the victory over his own self and these eight attractions.

Two: among the victories which the Mujahid in the Way of Allah achieve by mere marching forth, is

Page 35: TRANSCRIPT | WITH QURAN S COMPANIONSHIP | Sheikh H rith ... · As for reforming ‘amal (actions), then the deeds need to be in the manner that Allah the Almighty has prescribed.

victory over Shaytan (Satan) who waylays him and tries to hinder him from Jihad by any means possi-ble. The Prophet peace be upon him explains this in the Musnad of Ahmad, it was narrated by Saburah ibn Abi Fakih - may Allah be pleased with him, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him saying: “I heard the Messenger of Allah say, “Indeed Shaytan has intercepted the son of Adam on his paths,” … i.e. path of goodness, whenever he tries to pursue a good path, the path of Islam, the path of guidance, Shaytan confronts him; allures and frightens him. He said, “Shaytan intercepted him on his path towards Islam, and told him: “Are you going to become Muslim and leave your heritage and the religion of your forefathers?” But he disobeyed him and became a Muslim. Then Shaytan sat for him on his path to Hijrah and told him: “Will you make Hijrah and leave behind your land and sky? And the example of an immigrant is like that of a horse tied by a rope.” He disobeyed him and made Hijrah. He then sat for him on his path towards Jihad and said: “Are you going to fight when it is an exhaustion of yourself and wealth? You would kill and be killed and then your wife would be taken and your wealth divided.” He disobeyed him and went on Jihad. The Messenger of Allah then said: “Whoever does that and then dies, it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him to Paradise or is killed it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him to Paradise. And whoever drowns, it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him to Paradise, and if he dies by his animal striking him, it is incumbent upon Allah to ad-mit him to Paradise.” i.e. by any means he dies, it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him to Paradise.

The third victory which the Mujahid achieves by marching forth to Jihad in the Way of Allah is his victory over those who keep back men from Jihad, they talk his language, they are the people of hy-pocrisy, people of misconceptions. Those who stray (people away from) the way of Allah. Allah the Almighty has exposed them. He the Almighty says: {Had they marched out with you, they would have added you nothing except disorder, ...} [9: 47] they would have added you nothing except corruption, except distress. Allah the Almighty continues: {... and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading corruption) and craving fitnah for you.} [9: 47]If those who demoralize men from marching forth (to Jihad), if they were to march forth to Jihad, even if they wore the clothes of knowledge, they would have not added the Mujahideen nothing except weakness and hardship. They would have sown dissension among them and spread rumors. Allah the Almighty says: {Had they marched out with you, they would have added you nothing except disorder, and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading corruption) and craving fitnah for you. And there are some among you who would have listened to them. And Allah is the All-Knower of the Zalimun (poly-theists and wrong-doers).}Therefore, the third victory is the Mujahid’s victory over those who keep men behind, misconceptions, allurement and over all wreckage of this dunya.

The fourth victory which the Mujahid in the Way of Allah achieves is when Allah accepts him as shaheed (martyr) close to Allah on the Day of Judgment. This is the great victory. When a Mujahid is killed in the Way of Allah, and Allah bless him with martyrdom. That is the great success. That is the goal aspired by all. When is one victorious? When he achieves his goal. When a Mujahid marches forth aspiring after martyrdom in the Way of Allah, and Allah blesses him with martyrdom, then he has succeeded with a great success from Allah the Exalted. And what is a greater blessing than when Allah concludes one’s life with martyrdom in His Way.The fifth meaning of victory: Mujahid’s victory on the battlefield. Allah the Almighty promised His Servants victory if they carry out His Shari’ah Orders and prepare (to the best of their abilities) in terms of material support. They will eventually be victorious Biidhnillah. Allah the Almighty says: {and it was incumbent upon Us to help the believers.}

Allah the Almighty says: {There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, Rushd (right) has become distinct from Ghayy (wrong). Whoever disbelieves in Taghut (those worshiped apart from Allah) and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.} [2: 256]

Rushd has become distinct from Ghayy.What is Rushd? And What is Ghayy? Where is Rushd, and where is Ghayy?This is a great and an important issue, in which the Quran defines where is guidance found and where is straying from the path, and who are the people of Rushd and who are of Ghayy. Rushd is in submitting to Allah the Almighty, avoiding shirk, disassociating with disbelievers and de-stroying shirk and innovations and crushing evil. That is where we find rushd (the right path). Allah the Almighty says: {And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim his (portion of) Rushd, and We were Well-Acquainted with him.} [21: 51]Ibrahim - peace be upon him - declared Tawheed, opposed disbelievers, destroyed shirk, innovations and evil and shattered idols. And Allah reffered to these deeds as Rushd. {And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim his (portion of) Rushd, ...}

Ibrahim - peace be upon him – in his deeds was Rashidan (on the right path). As for his disbelieving people who worshiped other than Allah the Almighty; worshiped idols, and strayed from the Guid-ance of Allah the Almighty, those are the people of Ghayy (strayed from the right path). Therefore, Rushd is with avoiding shirk.Eschewing shirk, disassociating with the disbelievers, destroying shirk and innovations and crushing idols, avoiding and destroying them: All these are Rushd, and its opposite is Ghayy.

Rushd is in Iman (believing) in Allah and answering His Orders and the orders of the Prophet - peace be upon him and his family. The people of Rushd are the believers who answered the Call of Allah and abide by His Orders, the followers of Prophet Muhammad - peace be upon him and his family. On the other hand, the people of Ghayy are those who left Iman in Allah, revolted against Shari’ah or shunned or moved away from Shari’ah. Allah the Almighty says: {And when My slaves ask you (O Muhamamd) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near. I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright (derivation of Rushd).} [2: 186] When are they guided to the right path? When they

believe and obey. Those who obey the Orders of Allah, those who avoid what He has forbidden , the followers of Muhammad - peace be upon him - are the people of Rushd.

Rushd is in disbelieving in Taghut and Iman in Allah; grasping the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. Allah the Almighty says:{There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, Rushd (right) has become distinct from Ghayy (wrong). Whoever disbelieves in Taghut (those worshiped apart from Allah) and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.} [2: 256]What is grasping the most trustworthy handhold? Iman in Allah: There is none that has the right to be worshiped except Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger. Rushd is in disbelieving in Taghut; avoiding, disassociating keeping away from him. Avoid Taghut as Allah has ordered. Therefore, Rushd is in disbelieving in Taghut and Iman in Allah; and grasping the most trustworthy handhold, keeping away from Taghut and disbelieving in them. Tawaghit (plural of Taghut) misguide their followers in this life and the Hereafter.Bukhari and Muslim related, it was narrated by Abuhureira that the Prophet - peace be upon him - said in a long Hadeeth, that Allah will gather people on the Day of Judgment. He will say: “Whoever worshiped anything, then he should follow it.” - This is the Day of Judgment, and Allah says: “Whoever worshiped anything, then he should follow it .” - All who worshiped the Sun will follow it, all who wor-shiped the Moon will follow it, all who worshiped Tawaghit will follow them.” Where are they taking them? They lead them in to Hell. Just like in dunya they led them to their destruction, misguidance, on the Day of Judgment they will lead them to Jahannam, Fire. Allah the Almighty says about Fir’aun, He the Exalted says: {And the command of Fir’aun was no right guide. He will go ahead of his people on the Day of Resurrection, and will lead them in to the Fire, and evil indeed is the place to which they are led. They were pursued by a curse in this (deceiving life of this world) and on the Day of Resurrection. Evil indeed is the gift gifted (i.e. the curse in the two lives).} [11: 97-99]This is the norm of the Tawaghit. Those who do not disassociate from them, but follow them will be led to misguidance in this life, and in the Hereafter, they will lead them to the Fire, we ask Allah refuge.

Rushd is in the abandoning of Tawaghit, disbelieving in them and avoiding them. Rushd is in the following the Quran, the Words of Allah the Almighty. Allah the Almighty says: {Say (O Muhammad), it has been revealed to me that a group of Jinn listened (to this Quran). They said: ‘Verily, we have heard a wonderful Recitation. It guides to Rushd, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allah) ...”} [72: 1-2] Rushd is following the Quran. And what-ever opposes the Quran, be it a tradition, culture, custom, moral or character; anything that oppose the Quran is Ghayy, misguidance. Rushd is found in the Holy Quran. Those who recite and follow the Quran are the poeple of Rushd. The portion of one’s Rushd depends on his portion of following the Book of Allah the Almighty.

Rushd is in Iman and hating kufr, immorality and disobedience. Allah the Almighty says: {And know that among you there is a the Messenger of Allah. If he were to follow your opinions and desires in much of the matter, you would durely be in trouble. But Allah has endeared the Faith (Iman) to you and beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger) hateful to you. Such are they who are rightly guided.} [49: 7]Who are the people of Rushd? Those who have beautified their hearts with Iman; they love Iman, obe-dience and implementing the Orders of Allah the Almighty, they long for obeying Allah the Exalted and are happy with obedience. They see disobedience dirty, they despise, detest and are never pleased

with it. Allah the Almighty says: {But Allah has endeared the Faith (Iman) to you and beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger) hateful to you. Such are they who are rightly guided.} [49: 7]

Rushd is in the longing for obedience, and detesting disobedience. Ghayy is in finding obedience to be cumbersome and heavy, and this is the characteristic of the Munafiqeen. They find obedience to be cumbersome, they take disobedience and filth lightly. But no! The believer is not like this. A believer yearns to meet Allah the Almighty, and to him disobedience is filthy; because Allah detests it, and its end is Fire.

Rushd is in Islam, submission to Allah. Allah the Almighty says: {And whosoever has embraced Islam (submitted to Allah), then such have sought Rushd (the right path). And as for the disbelievers (who de-viated from Rushd), they shall be firewood for Hell.} [72: 14-15] Islam, its rituals and laws are Rushd. Whatever opposes Islam is Ghayy and misguidance. Whosoever wants to be of the poeple of Rushd should absolutely abide by Islam. As much as he complies with Islam, he gets his portion of Rushd.

{Right (Rushd) has become distinct from wrong (Ghayy).} Rushd is in the Way of Allah, and Ghayy in the way of Shaytan, and the soul usually enjoins one to evil.
