Approach

• Focus WP2 Description of Work in a different way– Move from 40 technology development tasks, including

an ill-defined ‘IVS’ to assembly and verification of large SKA sub-systems

– identify and fill gapsNote: Need an integrated systems approach at sub-unit

level, eg• Feed dish design; LNA feed design

• Dish Verification Program• PAF Verification Program• AA Verification Program • Signal transport Verification Program• …..

WP2 approach

• Required parameter space can be covered with a small no. of models

• Contributing institutions contribute designs to several models

• Verification Programs will need to include a build and test phase, on the way to deriving the cost by 2012Q1 (end of PrepSKA)– VPs are self-evaluating

• SKA Design Studies and Pathfinders provide the R&D basis for the VPs– Need to target those aspects that map into the SKA– Documentation essential

• Effectively evaluate the feasibility of implementations outlined in Memo 100
