You will have the opportunity to explore one of the most beautifull cities in Bulgaria - Plovdiv!

Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria with history that can be traced back 6000 years. Plovdiv is a picturesque town, with many parks and gardens, museums and archaeological monuments. Its old part, called the Old Town, with houses from the National Revival period (18-19th century), is an imposing open-air museum situated on the three hills of the ancient Trimontium. 22.04.2014 - Direct Transport to the Venue

Page 16: Travel Guide

The various forms of public transport – trams, buses, minibuses and trolleybuses, as well as the underground

metro – run from 5:30 am to 11.30 pm every day. The public transport in Soa is NOT 24 hours. A ticket on any bus, tram or trolleybus within Soa costs 1.00 lv/

0.50 euro. Most drivers on public transport sell tickets – make sure you have the right change –but

it’s far easier and quicker, especially during peak times, to buy tickets from kiosks at stops along the route

before boarding.

If you plan to use public transport frequently, buy a strip of 10 tickets (8 lv/ 4 euro) or a pass for one day (4 lv/ 2 euro).

Bus/ Tram/ Trolleybus in Soifa

Page 17: Travel Guide

All tickets must be validated by inserting them in the small machine on board; once punched, tickets are nontransferable.

Inspectors will issue on-the-spot nes (20 lv/ 10euro) if you don’t have a ticket; unwary foreigners are a favourite target. Don’t forget to buy an extra ticket for each piece of oversized luggage, this means anything exceeding 60cm x 40cm x 40cm.

The ticket is only valid for the journey on that particular tram/bus; if you change - you will need to punch a new ticket. One ticket costs 1 lev. The ne for not having a ticket is currently 20 lv/ 10 euro and is payable on the spot.

Page 18: Travel Guide

Soa has two underground lines which intersect in the city centre at the

Serdika stop. One line runs from the East (Interexpo Centre) to the West

(Lyulin), via the city centre while the other, shorter, line runs from South

(Kempinski hotel) to North (Nadezhda). The undergrouns is clean and ecient,

though it does get crowded at peak times. Tickets cost 1.00 lv/ 0.50 euro and can be bought from the ticket

machines at the entrance to the stations.

METRO

Page 19: Travel Guide

Private minibuses, known as marshroutki, are a popular and ecient alternative to public transport, but cost slightly more (1.50 lv per trip/ 0.75 euro). Destinations and fares are indicated (in Cyrillic) on the front of the minibus; pay the driver upon boarding. There are 49 routes in operation, with most services running between the city centre and the outlying suburbs. Routes of interest to travellers include 30, which goes to the airport; 5, which goes to the central train station; 21, which runs to Boyana; and 41, to Simeonovo.

MINIBUS (MARSHROUTKA)

Page 20: Travel Guide

Taxis are an aordable and easier alternative to public transport. By law, taxis must use meters, but those that wait around the airport, luxury hotels and within 100m of pl Sveta Nedelya will often try to negotiate an unmetered fare – which, of course, will be considerably more than the metered fare. All ocial taxis are yellow, have fares per kilometre displayed in the window, and have obvious taxi signs (in English or Bulgarian) on top. Never accept a lift in a private, unlicenced vehicle, because you will pay too much. The rates per kilometre may range enormously from one taxi company to another. In the very unlikely event that you can’t nd a taxi, you can order one by ringing OK-Supertrans (973 2121) or Yes Taxi (91 119). You will need to speak Bulgarian, of course you can try in English.

TAXI

Page 21: Travel Guide

By Taxi from the AirportTerminal 1 & Terminal 2For your convenience and safety, we would recommend that you use the services of the taxi companies, which Soa Airport has contracts with. You can oer service at the oce of: "Ok Supertrans" (+359 2) 973 21 21 http://www.oktaxi.net/

The oce is located at arrivals hall – Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. You can also take a taxi directly at the taxi stands, located in front of the western exit of the building of the Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.

From the Railway/ Bus Station to the Soa Center

The main rail and bus stations are very close to each other. If you arrive at the bus station, walk (5 minutes) to the rail station because most of the stops are there. Getting to the city center is actually very easy, because most of the routes go through it. To get to NDK or Sheraton Hotel take tram 1 or 7. To reach Orlov Most or Hotel Pliska take bus number 213, 214, 305, 313 or 404. Since September 2012 you can easily reach NDK from the Central Railway Metro Station.

Page 23: Travel Guide

The Central Railway Station/ Central Bus Station are exactly next to each other (5 min by walk). Use bus 84 from the Airpot and get o at Hotel Pliska stop. This should be the 16th stop from the Airport. At Hotel Pliska just take bus 213, 214, 305, 313 or 404 from the same stop and you'll be on the station. The total time of travel will be 60 - 90 minutes, but allow 120 in case you travel in peak hours. The total cost will be 2 tickets which means €1. To reach the Airport if you are coming from the main Rail station just do the opposite - take bus 213, 214, 305, 313 or 404 and take o at Hotel Pliska stop. From there take bus 84 to the airport.

From the Airport to the Central Railway Station/ Central Bus Station

From the airport to the center by Public Transport

No 84 and 384 public bus lines connect Soa Airport to the central city.

At Soa Airport, tickets for public transport can be purchased at the newspaper kiosks located inside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 public areas as well as from a ticket vending machine installed at the public area of Terminal 1 Arrivals Hall or Terminal 2 Arrivals Hall. The ticket vending machine operates with Bulgarian currency, banknotes and coins, the issued tickets being valid for bus lines 84 and 384, or the other buses in the public transport.

More information regarding public transport routes, timetables and ticket fares, can be found at Soa Urban Mobility Centre (http://www.soa-airport.bg/default.aspx) or by calling 0700 13 233.
