Fine Art Auction
TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION4
THE BUYER Estimated PriceEstimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance).
Reserve PriceThe reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold.
Buyer’s PremiumBuyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.
BEFORE THE AUCTIONViewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale.
Condition ReportsCondition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot.
RegistrationIf you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell.
THE AUCTIONBiddingAll artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen.
Bidding IncrementsBidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the following increments:
Rp. 1.000.000 - Rp. 10.000.000 by Rp. 500.000Rp. 10.000.000 - Rp. 20.000.000 by Rp. 1.000.000Rp. 20.000.000 - Rp. 50.000.000 by Rp. 2.000.000Rp. 50.000.000 - Rp. 100.000.000 by Rp. 5.000.000Rp. 100.000.000 - Rp. 200.000.000 by Rp. 10.000.000Rp. 200.000.000 - Rp. 500.000.000 by Rp. 20.000.000Rp. 500.000.000 - Rp. 1.000.000.000 by Rp. 50.000.000Rp. 1.000.000.000 - above by the auctioneer’s direction.
Absentee/ Written BidsIf you cannot attend the auction in person, you may bid in other ways. The most common is written bids. Written bids are written instruction given to TREASURES to bid for you on one or more lots up to a maximum amount you specify for each lot. There is no charge for this service. If two or more parties leave identical bids, the first bid received by TREASURES will take preference. Written bid forms are available 7 days before the sale and returned to TREASURES within 24 hours before the sale or by fax to (021) 351 0707.
Telephone BidsIf you cannot attend the auction, TREASURES will execute on behalf of your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least 1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone.
Successful BidsSuccessful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. TREASURES will record the bidder number of the buyer. Under the auctioneer’s discretion bidding may be reopened.
Unsold lotsWhen a lot fails to sell, the auctioneer will not announce a bidder’s number. Lots unsold will be returned to the consignor usually after a week in case there are any post sale offers.
AFTER THE AUCTION Payment Payment of purchases should be made within 7 (seven) calendar days. Please include your paddle number, name, lot number, and total payment in your bank instruction. If buyers do not make any payment or notice to TREASURES during the scheduled time, they will be considered as withdrawing.
Collection of GoodsGoods can be collected only when payment has cleared and been received by TREASURES. Due to space constraints, TREASURES requires that purchases and unsold property be collected within 7 (seven) days. If the goods remain after 7 (seven) days TREASURES reserves the right to cause the artworks to be stored at the expense of the purchaser.
Storage and InsuranceTREASURES provides insurance cover for sold items for a maximum of 7 (seven) days after the date of the sale. If the goods have not been removed by the deadline, the goods will be deposited at warehouse and all storage transportation and other associated costs as well as risk shall be at the purchaser’s responsibility.

061HAN SNEL (Scheveningen, 1925 – 1998)Balinese Girls, 1976
Oil on canvas: 70 x 50 cmSigned and dated, lower left: Han Snel, Bali76
Provenance: Private collection, Jakarta
RP 250.000.000 - 350.000.000
Han Snel Born in 1925 in Scheveningen, Holland, Han Snel arrived in Indonesia as a
Dutch soldier in 1946. He had a life-long love affair with Bali. Snel immediately
fell in love with the island; a love so deep until he marred a local girl, apply for
Indonesia citizenship and embrace Balinese Hinduism. He lived in Ubud from
1950 until his death in 1998.
Balinese themes are Han Snel’s specialism, in particular figures done in a
more or expressionist style: he himself prefers to describe his manner with
its very conspicuous, curved lines, as ‘roundism’. In his works, Snel focused his
attention on the beauty of Balinese women. His colors were varied and lean
towards the primary with contrasting area of dark shading. His visual imageries,
subdued colors and fine lines captured the essence of Ubud and the island as
a place where serenity reigned and simple people led an honest life.

WidayatBorn in Kutoarjo, Central Java 3 March 1919 and died in 2002. Besides a painter, Widayat was also known as the lecturer of the Indonesian Institute of Fine Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. Since 1950-2002 he had participated in numerous painting exhibitions in Indonesia as well as abroad, such as Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Hongkong, Netherlands, Italy, America and Australia. Widayat was said as a maestro after Affandi as published in the book of “Educator and painter” by ISI Yogyakarta 1988. He was also a revolutionary painter, master of gardening and a graphics art.
Widayat’s works show an immense variety of stories about nature, myth, and ritual. They are rich in content, texture, and technique. Widayat’s preference for the simplification and distortion of natural forms had a profound influence on many Indonesian artists. His magic decorative style is a personal visual language mostly derived from folk motifs. He focuses on inner structure rather that outward appearance.
The present lot is an early work of Widayat with very rare objects. It features the village of Kintamani sits on the rim of the great volcanic caldera of mount Gunung Batur. The climate is cold, with thick clouds rolling in almost daily in the late afternoon. The colors in this painting reflect the misty atmosphere in addition to the bleakness of the landscape with blackened lava flows from eruptions of the active volcano.

Dullah was born in Solo in 1919. He has once admitted that Affandi and S. Soedjojono were his great teachers, but in fact his creations which obviously followed the school of realism were quite divergent to the works of the above two great masters. Dullah was famous in realistic paintings of portrait figures, landscapes and still life works. Since the early days of the independence, Dullah was very close to Soekarno, the first President of the Republic of Indonesia. He was therefore appointed by Soekarno to take care of all of the President’s art possessions and at the same time as curator of the state painting collection. He often accompanied the President on his trips in Indonesia as well as abroad.
In 1950, Dullah was appointed by President Sukarno as the Presidential Palace painter until 1960. After that he return to a free-lance painter. Dullah began exploring his canvas with a wide variety of themes derived from subjects he encountered anywhere he could find them. Among this varied works, the environment and culture of Bali appeared most frequently. Bali had indeed become a major part of Dullah’s life and art, after his hometown in Solo. This is why he established the Pejeng Studio in Bali (1974).
Dullah can be said to have been very successfully at depicting the men and women of Bali up into 1990s. The traditional sense of the figures he paints is felt very strong. The simplicity of the figures makes them stand out from his canvases. His mastery of painting figure can be seen at his reproduction of the skin tone and the depiction of drapery, postures and gestures that makes his paintings extremely convincing. The elderly people depicted in Dullah’s painting are the inhabitants of villages in Java and Bali. Besides the elderly, he also painted male or female children and teenage girls. He conveyed the simplicity of his subjects through natural drawings, retaining a sense of nature.

TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION54
Born in Medan, October 21, 1933, Amrus Natalsya is one of the few Indonesian sculptors who are forever exploring new idioms in their creations. In the beginning of his artistic career, Amrus was sculpting and painting in turns, as was common among the artists in Yogyakarta at the time. But then Amrus turned increasingly to sculpting as the medium for his art. If we take into account the development of modern art in Indonesia during the 1950s, Amrus’s works seemed to appear as a deviation from the general tendency. Naturally, Amrus has never moved away from the sphere of the realism. Realism in Amrus’s works, however, did not portray merely the realistic images as they were commonly found in figurative sculptures, made by molding using clay models.
As a sculptor Amrus known to be very strong with medium wood that retains its original character. He also has been known since 1955 with a monumental sculpture entitled “People Whose Rights Are Taken Away at Dusk” or “The Forgotten Blind Man”. Amrus produces series of figurative sculptures; Noah’s ark theme, traditional houses, Chinatowns and the flute players. Amrus’s flute player sculpture presents an archaic figure. The deformation of the flute player’s body has sharpens the expression of the figures. This expression was inspired by his experience in observing the traditional Batak sculptures in his origin. The body of the flute player still follows the original shape of the wood which implies the character of primitive art. Other elements that supported the character figure are the rigid movement of the player and the monochromatic copper brown and the present of traditional flute.
While the flute player expressed more on the traditional character, his boat sculpture presents the nature mythology. Amrus’s sculptures actually a symbol of the human struggle. Ekspretif statue with the rest of the fault in the whole body figures it had used to reinforce the expression of suffering deformation. In the span of time, it turns out Amrus still maintain such a way of expression. As in the sculpture “Players Serulng” is. With a variety of these traits in the present Amrus more extending friends. Of nature mitilogis like sculpture “Boat Ancestors”, until the actual problems, such as the suffering figure in the sculpture “Bosnia”. Besides, Amrus also continue to explore the structure of the township Chinatown complexity to be realized as contemporary sculptures with a fixed expression arkhaaik. Statues Amrus actually a symbol of the human struggle.
