I will be exploring how reality shows
and other media texts affect thegrowth of dance.
I will looking at dance shows, to explore
how dance forms were known to be raceor age specific, and how these dance
forms have blown throughout the UKand are now performed by everyone.
I intend to show this documentary in
an exciting and fun way. As dance isknown to be fun and entertaining.
I also intend to show danceperformances from people who
havent danced before, which again will
be amusing.

Topic: The topic that I have chosen to
take into production is about dance.
Angle: The angle or area I will belooking at is the influence and impactthat the media has had on dance, since
dance reality shows have started.YOUR OPINION!
Unique Selling Point: The unique
selling point of this topic is that as faras I know, a documentary has not
been produced that has focused onthis sort of topic or angle. BE
SPECIFIC!

How have dance reality shows or programmes
had an effect on dance as a whole?
re different dance forms actually race or agespecific?
Race specific dance forms have now spread
throughout the UK. Is this a good thing?
I will be doing this by
showing archive footage on
how , for example, Ballroom
dancing was really performed
by white and elderly people.
nd now because of danceshows like Strictly Come
Dancing, Ballroom dance is
performed by everyone.
Here I will be
interviewing different
dance instructors and
asking for their opinion
on this debate.
I will be producing a vox pops segments
here, and asking people from different age
groups if they think that this fact is a good
thing.

What elements will your documentary have?
The documentary I have decided to take into production, will contain many differentelements such as:
Interviews
Vox pops A segment where volunteers will dance
An unusual sign in and sign off
Music related to dance
Graphics to introduce interviewers and segments
Archive footage of people dancing (Strictly Come Dancing)
Who will you need to interview/what actors will you need to execute your idea? For this documentary I will need professionals such as dance instructors and dancers toask them whether they feel that different dance forms are actually race and age specific.Other people I may need are volunteers who can participate to dance.

Outline your narrative structure:
Segment One: Here I will be showing the audience some archive
footage of different dance reality shows. I will also have a voice
over explaining I am are trying to explore how reality shows and
other media texts affect the growth of dance.
Segment Two: Introduction to the show (in London or a busy
town). Presenter will introduce the topic which is the mediainfluence on the growth of dance.
Segment Three: Here the presenter will be interviewing a dance
instructor in a dance studio, to find out what their opinion is on
the media influence on the growth of dance.
Segment Four: Here I will be interviewing a doctor or a
physiotherapist, about the benefits of dance as a exercise. Thisinterview will be done in the doctors office or around the clinic.
Segment Five: Here the presenter will vox pop different people
asking them, if its a good thing that different dance forms from
different cultures are spreading throughout the UK . This segment
will be filmed in Central London.

to interview another dance instructor to find out whether they feel different dance forms are
race and age specific or how media has influenced the dance industry and why.
Segment Seven: Here I will get a group of people from different ethnicities to participate in a
small dance routine and then ask them what they though of it. I may get a group of people who

different dance forms in the UK.

to show us a dance move of their choice. This will be filmed in Central London, i.e. Oxford
Street.

Age
The age group for this documentary is going to be from ages 16 24. This has
been specified for us in the brief, so the reason why I think this age group matches
my age documentary's topic and angle, is because the media influence on the
growth of dance, is something that the younger generation are mostly interested in.
This idea will appeal to the target audience because, I think the age group matchesmy documentary topic is because younger people in this age range are seen in clubs
and such dance classes.
Gender
The gender of this documentary is aimed towards both males and females.
Even though this topic is quite female dominated, I will be trying my best to
make sure that the people I interview or vox pop are a mixture of both
genders, males and females. This has been specified in the brief that was
given to me, however the reason why I think this gender has been chosen
for us is because, even though people think dance is aimed towards females,
nowadays males are also very interested in dance, as seen in reality danceshows such as Strictly Come Dancing.
Location
The location that the target audience will be situated is in the United Kingdom.
This location has been specified for us in the brief. The reason why I think this
target audience location matches my idea, is because the reality shows I will be
talking about are located in and around the UK. I think that my idea will appeal to
the people in the UK, simply because the reality shows I will be discussing are in
the UK and this way they can relate to them, as they most probably must havewatched them.
8/7/2019 Treatment V1
9/23
Interests
The interests and hobbies the target audience will be
fascinated by are activities such as:
Different genres of music Dancing
Exercising
Staying healthy and fit
Socialising
WatchingTV programmes
Watching documentaries
Education/Employment/Socio Economic Group
The employment of the target audience will mostly be
something like part time worker looking at the age
range that was given to us in the brief. The reason why
I have chosen this sort of employment for this target
audience is because 16-18 people are usually studyingin college or school, so a part time job would be most
appropriate for this age group. The education for thistarget audience will most probably be in school, sixth
form, college or university, again looking at the age
range given. The socio economic group of this target
audience would probably be in the A to E category.
My idea will appeal to this target audience because the
sort of language style I will be using, will be informal
and direct so that it can relate to them.
Disposable Income (Spending Power)The target audiences disposable income or spending power, will be from
the range of 5 to 30 or more (per week). The reason why I have chosen
this spending power range is based from the questionnaire analysis I had
done recently, the participants had identified that their disposable income
was around 5 to 30 or more (per week). My idea will appeal to people
who have a spending power of 5 to 30 or more (per week) because the
dance forms I will be referring about will cost them round about this
much to participate or watch.

10/23
Niche or Mainstream?
This section has been specified forus in the brief. When looking at
mainstream or niche, we have been
told that the target audience have to
aim the documentary to a
mainstream . The reason why I think
that we have been told to target our
documentary towards a mainstream
audience is so that the documentary
is aimed towards everyone and not
just a particular race, age group or
gender. My idea will appeal to the
mainstream target audience because,
the idea of the documentary is not
aimed towards one specific target
audience (excluding the age group),
the documentary allows people from
all genders, all ethnicities and all
socioeconomic groups to relate tothe documentary.
Existing Media Consumption
When looking at existing media consumption,
and what the target audience consume, I think
that the target audience would watch dance
programmes such as Britain's Got Talent,
Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing With the Stars
and Got to Dance. The reason why I have
chosen these sorts of media consumptions, isbecause these dance programmes are the kinds
I will be mentioning in my documentary andalso these are the sorts of answer I had
received from my questionnaires. My idea willappeal to the target audience because the dance
shows they consume are the dance shows I willinclude in my documentary, from this the
audience can relate to the documentary.
Ethnicity
The ethnicity has been
specified for us in the brief.
The ethnicity that has beenidentified is that this
documentary should bedirected and aimed towards all
ethnicities and races. Thereason why I think that this
has been chosen for us is
because they wouldnt want
this documentary aimed
towards one race, as it could
offend or bore other people
from different ethnicities. My
idea will appeal to the targetaudience from different
ethnicities, because this
idea/topic isnt directed
towards a specific race, its
directed towards everyone.
People who dance and people
who dont dance.

contents of the two
documentaries.

It has gain moreunderstanding in what
different conventions Ishould include in my
documentary.
And it has taught me
how I can relate to the
target audience, via the
documentary.
Was it primary or secondary?
This piece of research was definitelyprimary.
The reason why is because I wasanalysing the texts on my own, I hadnt
analysed someone else's textual analysis.

What did you set out to find out?
What the target audiences were
interested in.
Whether the content of this idea
suited their hobbies and interests.
Was it qualitative or quantitative and why?
This research, I feel was both
qualitative and quantitative.
The reason why I feel this, is becausethis questionnaire required closed
questions which means I would receivequantitative answers and open
questions which results as qualitativeresponses.
Why was the method (or type of research) best
suited for finding the information you werelooking for?
I think that this method was best suited for
this research.
As this research had to be filled
out/completed by volunteered participants.
And the research required the myself to
ask both closed and open questions, and a
questionnaire was the only way to executethis task given.
What is it examining content or
audience?
I was examining the audiencesection.
As I was examining about the
target audience and their interests.
Also whether they were interested
or involved with dance.
Three Key Findings:
1. I found out what my target audience areinterested in.
2. I also found out whether they areinterested in dance.
3. And whether the reality shows shown on
TV nowadays are watched by people theirage.
How has the research
helped develop your
documentary?
This research has
helped me understandmy target audience a
little more.
And it has also helped
me realise that my idea
and content does relateto the target audience.
Was it primary or secondary?
This piece of research was definitelyprimary.
The reason why is because I created andproduced this questionnaire on my own,
and also collected the answers on my
own as well.

Was to find out what the main content is
of the three ideas.
Answer the five questions I set for myself
and to expand on the three ideas.
Was it qualitative or quantitative and why? This research, I feel was both
qualitative and quantitative.
The reason why I feel this is becausethis content research contained
sections where I had to answer a
question in paragraphs and then also
find facts ad figures for that questions
or idea.
Why was the method (or type of research) best
suited for finding the information you werelooking for?
I think that this method was best suited for
this research.

answered in great detail.
And also this research also required
presentation skills, to make it look attractive
(images, links and videos).

OFCOM OFCOM is an agency thatregulates the content of all

OFCOM functions theOFCOM Broadcasting

the standards in

and fairness and privacy.
Payments - This OFCOM
regulation has an impact on
my product as now that I
have knowledge about this
regulation, that beforemaking any payments to
contributors or other
sources, I have to receive
acceptance from the
broadcaster, before I go
ahead and make payments.
Dealing With Contributors
- This OFCOM regulation
has an impact on my product
because now that I am aware
of the regulations set by the
OFCOM, about dealing with
contributors, I know that
before making the product
about topic that is serious or

get acceptance from the

BBCT
he BBC editorial guidelinesare enforced to aprogramme, to make sure
that the program makers donot include anything
inappropriate, that can affect
the public in anyway.
Truth & Accuracy - I thinkthat this rule can have animpact on my product
because now that I knowthat the truth has to be
exposed to the audience I
will not attempt to use fake

Copyrights - This can have
an impact on my product
because now that I have

have to make sure that Ireceive a form of a license

This can affect my product

How are they competing for the same target audience?
This dance TV programmes is aired on Sky1. the reason why I feel that this show is
competing for the same target audience as mine is because this show , executes
performers and dancers that are in the same age range as my documentary (16-24).
Another reason why I feel this show is similar to my documentary is because the televisionshow is aimed towards people who live in London and also this show is based in the UK.
How will your documentary be different/unique/compete for a more niche audience to
theirs?
My documentary will be different to Everything Pineapple Studios, as this show in more of
a talent competition, where judges or dance instructors give their opinion to performer
about their performance. Whereas, my documentary really just looks at the media aspect of
dance, and how these reality shows have had an impact on the growth of dance.
8/7/2019 Treatment V1
20/23
How are they competing for the same target audience?
This dance TV programmes is also aired on Sky1. I think that the first reason why I think
this dance show is competing for the same target audience is because, of the judges this
dance reality show is using. What I mean by the judges used in the dance show, is that the
judges shown on the show are in the similar age group, for example the winner of Britain's
Got Talent, Diversitys leader is in the judges panel, and his age is 22 years, which means he
is in the target audience age range, therefore relates to the audience watching/participating.
How will your documentary be different/unique/compete for a more niche audience to
theirs?
My documentary will be different to Got To Dance because my product is a documentary
and Got To Dance is a talent competition where the judges seek for a dancers/performers
who are very talented in the field of dance. My documentary is going to be informing,
educating and entertaining the audience by giving them information about how reality
shows have had an impact on the growth of dance over the past years.

dance TV programme is competing for the same target audience is because this show

how this text is competing for the same target audience is that it is again based in the UK,where similarly, my documentarys target audience is based in.
How will your documentary be different/unique/compete for a more niche audience to
theirs?
My documentary will be different to So You Think You Can Dance, because as I have said
before the format of my documentary and the format of So You Think You Can Danceare completely different. As my documentary is a documentary based on information,
entertaining and educating. And So You think You Can Dance is a dance competition
where judges look for high standard dance acts.

equipment is important for the product as it will be used to edit the uncut documentary.
3) Location (HAD) - The amount that will be spent on the location will be approximately400. This
location is quite important to the production as this is where most of the filming may happen.
4) Crew (Camera Operator) - The amount that will be spent on the Apple Mac will be approximately300.
This is again quite important to the product as I will need help operating the camera.
5) Crew (Sound Recordist) - The amount that will be spent on the Apple Mac will be approximately250.
