Global Child Health Program The Global Child Health Program (GCHP), within the McGill Department of Pediatrics, is coordinated by a multi-disciplinary committee wishing to broaden the Montreal Children’s Hospital’s involvement in Global Health activities.

Established as a program in 2014, the GCHP adheres to the principles of sustainability and capacity building by working collaboratively with health care professionals at global partner sites to meet their self-identified medical education and research needs. Lessons learned from these collaborations also help to improve the care received by the large multicultural population served at our hospital, as well as vulnerable children living in our community.

Haiti: Pediatric Capacity-building

• Partnership with Hôpital Sainte-Justine, Canadian/Haitian Red Cross, Unite de Santé Internationale (UdeM), Japan International Cooperation Agency, Direction de la santé publique de Montréal

• Hôpital St-Michel, Jacmel, Haiti

To date: • Initial pediatric needs assessment • Neonatology assessment and training • Malnutrition assessment and training

In 2015:

• Pediatric emergency and triage • Physiotherapy • Mental health

Global Health Curricula: Multidisciplinary Medical Education

Advanced Curriculum in Pediatric Global Health: • 2-year curriculum • Monthly seminars, group projects, and reading

list • Nurses, allied health, pediatric and family

medicine residents with previous Global Health knowledge/experience (MCH, Hôpital Sainte-Justine, Mackay Centre, JGH)

• CanMEDs objectives • OIIQ and RCPSC accredited • Pre-requisite for McGill pediatric residents prior

to Global Health elective

Pediatric Residency teaching: • Incorporated into academic teaching schedule • General Global Health competency for all

residents • Based on Canadian Pediatric Society Global
