WHEN DO YOU NEED A
PERMIT
If you are considering building a new home or garage, or adding an
accessory structure, it is important that
you get the appropriate permits. A permit insures that your construction
project complies with zoning and
stormwater regulations.
Your first stop is City Hall. City staff
will sit down with you to discuss your construction project and lay out what
you need to get started. Beginning with
our development review checklist, we will discuss the steps you need to take
and determine whether or not a permit
is required.
The cost of permits range from $0 to
more than $300.00 depending on the complexity of the project and the level
of technical review required for
approval.

UPDATES TO THE DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE
Updates to the City’s Development Ordinance was needed to help create a more development
friendly environment and easy in following the development ordinance. The City has revised
its Land Use Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and Subdivision Regulations. Some of the highlights of this endeavor are as followed:
Creation of another Regional Center around the I-85/Hopewell Church Rd.
Removed Overlays from the Zoning Ordinance.
Banners are now a new tool that can be used for advertising purposes.
Changes of the requirements for sidewalks, curb & gutter, and bike lanes have been
added to make it less costly for developers to consider commercial and subdivision
development.
Subdivision Ordinance has been streamlined to reduce meetings and make it more
efficient so that subdivision plats can be approved efficiently and reduce the cost for developers.
For more information, please call the Planning Director, Marc Allred.

Septic System Maintenance. If you have a
septic system, it's important to properly
maintain it. Failed or broken septic
systems can threaten the health of humans
and wildlife in a watershed by releasing
harmful microbes and chemical
contaminants. Even the most efficient
tanks require regular maintenance every
year or two. If you see excessive moisture
or standing water in the drain field,
noxious odors in the yard, dead grass or
other plants over the drain field,
depressions around or over the septic tank,
or slow or plugged drains it's time to call a
licensed professional and make sure your
tank is maintained.
