MyLife StoryCeola Patillo recently of Alexandria, Virginia departed this life in the early hours of April2,2011 withinweeks of his 94tn birthday.

He was born April 24, 1923 in LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia to the late Coleman and Mattie Moss

There was nothing that Ceola cherished more than family. He and the twinkle in his eye, Janice, recentlycelebrated their Golden Anniversary (50 years). In the "dawn" of their new day as a couple they were

blessed with two beautiful daughters. He radiated whenever he spoke of Dawn and Tracey. His love and

pride was clearly communicated in the look in his eyes and smile on his face. He was also very close to his

siblings' children; he talked to his nieces and nephews regulady. He had a sense of humor - he never

missed an opportunity to create a light-hearted moment or be on the receiving end of a joke. Quite frankly,he never met a stranger.

Hall affiliated. His community activities included member and past-president of the Kiwanis Club ofSewickley and member of Daniel B. Matthew's Historical Society.

Ceola served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in Okinawa, one of the bloodiestbattles in the Pacific. He received the Victory Medal from World War II and was also awarded the GoodConduct medal as a result of his military service. He was granted the American Theater Ribbon (nowknown as American Campaign Ribbon) for service within the American Theater of Operations and the

Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon (now known as the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon) for his service in the

Pacific Theater - there were 21 Army Corps approved for this medal.

Prior to and after military service, Ceola was employed at LTV Steel (formerly J & L Steel of Aliquippa,PA) where he was the first black supervisor in the fourteen-inch mill. He retired in 1983 after 41 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty years Janice, two daughters Dawn Exum (Bryan) and

Tracey; sister-inlaws Carol Haten and Evelyn Leslie; nieces Recie Moss (Homer), Melvina Patillo Cobb,

Yulanda Freeman, Andrea Sligh, Jane Powell (Joseph), Tanya Howard (Richard), Tiffany Haten, Janet
