Welcome Happy New Year!

As we enter the New Year, we have much to be thankful for as a church.

We have a great relationship with Holy Trinity our link Church of England primary school – Mr Wood, the Deputy, will be joining us at our Family Service on 13th January.

We are excited to have made such good progress with the

Heating Appeal – so much energy and good will has gone into the fundraising and the detailed technical work preparing for our new heating system.

We continue to provide before and after-school care for children from three Primary Schools, in a way that is often taken for granted. Our new manager Catherine is doing a great job, with support from the Childcare team.

We have confirmed Victoria Hunter in her newly titled role as Business & Finance Manag-er (for church and Childcare), while Donna Nestor is now working 16 hours/week as the Parish Administrator.

We saw huge numbers of people coming through our doors for the Heritage Open Day and Christmas Tree Festival, and the comment is often that we offer a very warm wel-come.

Our priority through the first quarter of 2019 is to build on the work we have started on Leading Your Church Into Growth, so it was wonderful that the Bishop’s Advisor on Church Growth, Canon Robin Gamble, joined us unexpectedly on 16th December. The projections we have discussed are for significant numerical growth over the next three years – let’s pray and work towards this.

Revd. Clive Hicks, Vicar

Leading Your Church Into Growth (LYCIG)

We have enjoyed beginning to work through the first sessions with LYCIG. In groups we have reflected on where we are currently at as a church and what appetite we have for growth. Our front cover this month features the image of a plate ready for food—we were asked to think ‘how hungry’ are we for growth? We have also engaged in innovative and creative thinking about how we might see growth happen. This will come through our engagement with the 4 P’s: We need to be PRAYING regularly for growth and developing our PRESENCE with-in the local community. From there we can then grasp these opportunities of be-ing present to PROCLAIM the good news of Christ. In response to this it is im-portant that we also have provision for those who wish to find out more, to ask questions and to seek a relationship with God. In LYCIG this provision for enquir-ers is known as PERSUASION.

Now, we have to think about some practical steps to develop our life as a church.

Sessions 4, 5 & 6 to follow in the New Year

Equipping & empowering local churches

Leading your Church into Growth: Local is the ideal ‘next step’ for church leaders who want to get church growth principles and practice into the

bloodstream of their own church communities. The resource is a perfect follow-on programme for those who have been on our residential course. Our Local course is designed for use in small groups and the DVD-based

interactive sessions will stimulate, teach, equip and motivate church mem-bers of all ages to play their part in leading their church into growth.

We have started our visits to other churches which have completed similar heating projects;

we hope to complete these this month. We will then select the main heating contractor and

put together a detailed specification for the project for the approval of the PCC.

Thanks again for your continued support and prayers.

Safeguarding training now available online!

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and so let’s all make efforts to sure that we are equipped with the right and most up to date information to help us to help others in need.

The Church of England have developed a new set of online safeguarding training courses which can be accessed by all. The more people we can have with the basic levels of understanding and

knowledge about safeguarding the better we can be as a community at including and welcoming all people and the better we can be at helping all people to feel safe and confident to

get involved with the ministry and mission we have.

Please access the online training via this link: https://safeguardingtraining.cofeportal.org/

You will need to first register yourself with a new account and then proceed onto C0 and C1 courses. Further help is available with this from the core safeguarding team.

Happy New Year !

Confirmation Exploration- Affirming your faith

Have you been baptised as a child and wish to explore the idea of confirmation?

We have a small group of people who have expressed an interest exploring confirmation and what it means to express one’s faith for oneself after having been baptised as an infant. This is an invitation to any others who may be interested to find out more about what confirmation is, how it works and whether it is the right step to take for you.

For further information, please visit https://www.churchofengland.org/life-events/confirmation and please come and speak to Lucy to express your interest. Sessions will begin in the new year and the next date for confirma-
